One Piece Discussion Thread #6

Just finished watching amazingly interesting video props to him for making it

I loved howmhe brought up what makes OP final battles extremely climatic and how it relates to the themes and story so well I remember reading Skypiea formthe first time and Luffy ringing the bell brining the whole arc together and proving that dreams never die

Watch the video and it's a morality thing. Ace and Luffy willingly choose to live the life as pirates. Pirates are criminal, and they will always be such. The vast of majority of pirates in the One Piece world are criminals, Luffy and his crew are merely exceptions ( and even that's questionable- looking at Luffy's little side trip to Impel Dow). The World Government might be sinister and some might say evil, it is because of them that the world is somewhat peaceful. Without them, the world of One Piece would be chaotice.

It's a matter of utilitarianism; doing things that might not be evil for the greater good of the world. It's quite clear the WORLD GOVERNMENT does have an ulterior motive but that's besides the point, and it still agrees with this philosophy. As King pointed out, Garp is choosing his job over his family and he has every right to do so because his family are quite criminals. It is Garp's job to serve and protect and enforce the law. To break them just to save his criminal grandchild would defy all the laws and values he's supposed to represent.´╗┐ He is the Hero of the Marines. Countless of people join the Marines just to be like him. He has a role to inspire the young generation so they don't follow the path of a criminal. To me, Garp is a good person and a hero who did the 'correct' thing. But to quote a certain red hair faker 'Just because you're correct doesn't mean you're right' - The 'correct' choice isn't always the 'right' choice. He had to choose from being either a traitor or a terrible grandfather and he chose the latter. I can't wait to see what'll happen if Luffy and Garp meet up again. Could be great for some real character development for Luffy and further development for Garp.

And remember that Garp did not want this to happen in the beginning as he tried to make the kids become marines. The moment that Luffy and Ace set out to sea to become pirates, their fates were sealed. I also wanted to point out that The World Government, in many ways, represent the governments in real life ( if one do their research) which adds even more depth to the story.´╗┐

To me that's part of what makes One Piece an interesting series the conflict between pirates and the World Government and how no one's completely a hero here even Luffy doesn't think of himself one despite sharing a lot of heroic attributes. And with how much horrible shit the WG done and they justify its for the sake of justice which most with morality would see as BS

Like Kid was on point when he said the Celestial Dragons make pirates look honorable

Wait til the void century is reveled and find out what horrible secrets the WG is willing to do anything to keep it unknown

Tbh I kinda wish after OP is finish that Oda makes a series or sequel to it about Bounty Hunters. I feel like he could have did a lot with Bounty Hunters but it's too late now imo.

I mean like there aren't really good guys or hero's in OP like u guys said. I wish the bounty hunters could be this and stop all of the evilness in the world with a sequel

Honestly it feels like Bounty Hunters are ridiculously underpowered in OP. I only remember Johnny and Yosaku as the last relevant ones.

And anyone with an extremely bounty could wreck anyone we have seen since usually the stronger characters in OP are ether pirates, marines or some other entity

Not sure about this. Void Century might reveals that the forgotten kingdom was better than the later named as World Government.

I agree with the second paragraph. There's a great potential to exploit.

@Js well, we already know that they are willing genocide entire islands just with the Void Century's subject being involved. They willingly avoided the existence of the slave's house in Sabaody and some minor marines are willing to ignore atrocities such as Arlong's in order to get money.

So yeah, the WG is rotten from the insides and it's the one that controls the Marine. Pirates are evil as well, there's no doubt about it. But I like that the protagonists ain't actual heroes but people who knows what's wrong and what's right and act going by these thoughts.

Other shonen series portrays the protagonist as the hero who always do the right thing even if it's unconscious. But the fact that Luffy is willing to break laws that put him against the very World Government is amazingly fresh (even if the manga has 21 years) because there ain't much characters like that. Yeah, we have heroes and villains as protagonists in a vast variety but Luffy rarely fits in the archetype. He's more an anti-hero with heroic tendencies but that doesn't care about what's good and what's evil. He does do the right thing even if it's not correct and that's the great difference between him and Garp.

That's what I'm saying lmao bruh. I feel like Oda has forgot about them and got too caught up with pirates and marines. Bounty Hunters are also apart of the OP World. I loved the bounty hunter from the movie; he was so cool.

I think the most bad pirate like thing the Straw Hats did was planning to steal the gold from Skypiea. Which they were planning on giving to them anyway out of gratitude for defeating Enel and saving them.

I say that cause Luffy and co are generally really kind to normal civilians usually it's other pirates or marines they really hate

Lol I remember that. Sometimes I wish Oda would make an arc that shows the straw hats actually looking for a source of money cause it seems like they always have money out of no where. Wish they could just look for treasure sometimes while fighting enemies. I feel like OP is becoming more action and beat this bad group and move to the next bad group type of anime.

@Astral

Well, they gets paid for the kingdom they save. Cobra and Vivi gave them money, they stole gold from Skypiea and stole treasures from Thriller Bark. As for the NW I don't recall any similar instance.

One Piece probably is a nice place to live on provided you don't run into pirates or go out sailing in the absurd weather or any other criminal

The 4 seas are definitely better then the Grande Line if you want a peaceful life and the anime and manga has some vacation islands ( like the one Mr 3 and Miss Goldenweek were introduced on)

Sailing would be absolutely fu¢king terrifying. I would always be worried about running into a sea king. Not to mention there are some pretty dangerous animals on land that make regular bears look like puppies.

Don't even get me started on having to whatever the Celestial Dragons want you to do.

All of them seem like a blast to visit

Drum island could be great for a snow adventure, Water 7 seems really fun to visit and also Dressrosa

Amazon Lily if I'm not sentenced to death apon setting foot

Like I'm stuck between Dressrosa, Alabasta, Amazon Lily, Water 7 cause it's fun asf and Sabaody, and finally Zou because of the furry girls lmao. Also last but not least Shinkis flying islands!! Those islands were so freaking beautiful but can't lie also dangerous

I'll tell them I'm a trans lesbian and see if they accept me as one of them.

EDIT: I would probably choose Water 7 as my top vacation spot as long as I plan around Aqua Laguna.

That's a hilarious plan that might actually work and a solid vacation spot

Edit: I could say I'm a friend of Luffys since they seemed fine with his crew coming to the island after earning Boas heart

The real question is how do plan on getting to Amazon Lily in the first place. It's in the middle of the calm belt and I doubt civilian ships can get there.

Yeah that's the main reason sailors don't dare to travel there minus it's female only regulations

You'd need something like sea stone underneath the ship so Sea kings don't notice ( like a navy ship) or something to scare off the Sea Kings ( like Hancock has those huge ass venomous snakes so they don't dare attack it)

Someboyd said before that Luffy is getting thicc. Now I can tell it.

That's what happens when you work for the first time and actually do a good job.
