Why is Ren not dead then? It's made pretty clear in the Rea route that if Merc dies, Ren dies too. Or did he do the whole "purge Merc's blood" thing?

Like 70% of things in DI got recton in KKK, don't pay attention although he may have come with an explanation, in the original ending for DI act es fabula Ren dies because Snake and Beast kill each other while in three colors they all simply kill each other, not that Ren and Beast had any chance of winning against Snake cuz killing him mean they are killing themselves as well

Let's not forget that first version of KKK came in 2011 and the "three colors" route came with DI AA in 2012 and it's pretty obvious Ren's "true god form" design was taken from Tenma Yato in KKK

The "kill me kill yourself" exist since original DI ending, original ending for DI was Beast and Snake fight and Ren dies because Snake is killed by Marie's hands for good, if anything KKK contradicts DI and literally the only time Ren purge Merc's blood from him is in the three colors route "not even Rea route" and that came one year after the original release of KKK so it's didn't happen even in the KKK canon timeline

Well there's 3 version of DI, the very first DI had only Marie and Kasumi route and it was huge mess and didn't make any sense so Masada just forgot about it, the true DI came out two years later in 2009 and that was Act es Fabula which had all the 4 routes and true ending for everything AKA Rea route and Snake vs Beast final battle which results in Ren's death as well
when I say original ending for DI I means DI act es Fabula, not the very first one and Nah the there colors appear in the THIRD release for the game not the second

Nope. Three Colours Ren still has the Mercury inside. The reason why KKK!Ren managed to survive was because he somehow managed to purge all of it, thus severing his connection to Snake.
