His logic was that since Goku has never destroyed anything larger than a mountain he was only that high (although I'm almost certain he's destroyed an island at one point. At the very least Piccolo has and Goku is supperior to him but apparently power scaling doesn't count as evidence.) Of course this is ignoring the evidence that current Goku is at least multi-galaxy level.
