So I was thinking of making a fanfic once I saved up to buy a new computer. One of the feats in said fanfic involves splitting the Sun in half, making a gap roughly as big as Earth is wide, before gravity pulls the halves back together. Since I suck at all things GBE related, would anyone know how much energy would be needed to do that?

I know I know, we have a calc request thread, but the thread is for actual feats in fiction, not theoretical ones like this. Or so I was told.

You can still request it, but just as Priority 4, as it is recreational. GBE couldn't be used here, however, since gravity pulls everything back together. This would indicate its binding energy was not broken.

A destruction value or KE can be taken from the cut volume though.

Huh. I was told otherwise when I made a request. Of course, that was a year or so ago, so maybe the rules changed.
Didn't my forum use the same method which was accepted for the Tonrei calc? That is to say pushing the halves apart before they come back together? I mentioned GBE because I assumed it would be involved in a calc for something that big.

Well if the pieces immediately come back together I don't think it's GBE would be overcome.

Also yes, the rules have changed. I suggested and pushed for an organization system for the calculation requests/evaluation threads. When this system was realized it included a Priority system. Priority 4 is for supportive, unneeded, and recreational calculations. Because of this Priority, however, calcers are less likely to take up the request.
