(Grace) Light Yagami (Death Note) vs L (Death Note)

Well L managed to beat 5+ teens when he was a little kid and considering in his tiny fight with Light he still showed expertise so it's safe to assume he has still kept up with some kind of martal arts training, unlike Light who we know is athletic but hasn't displayed any professional martal arts. And since this is basically a brawl I'm going with L for now.

While we have a thread on why L shouldn't and doesn't have martial arts, I agree he actually has combat experiance. Light does not. L wins due to that.

L is a martial artist, what are you talking about? Literally the first time he joined the secret training kids thing, he was beating up everyone there and was famous for his fighting not his intelligence. Only after he got interested in detective stuff people noticed that he's that smart.

Source?

That doesn't mean he has martial arts, it just means he is quite adept in hand to hand combat. That is, unless there is another page that states he was formally trained, this was done through a type of martial arts, or something of to that degree. Pretty impressive feat though.

iirc the author stated he knew some brazilian martial art or something.

I don't think it was stated directly. But considering he has displayed a professional spinning hook kick, coupled with this, it isn't that much of a stretch to put two and two together.

That was adressed in a different thread that the author stated that wasn't his original intent, as when drawing L attacking he had him "kicking in the most effective way" or something to a similar extent. He did say he "liked the idea" though.

Capoeira to be exact.

Heard it was a fan theory at first cause of the similarity and then Ohba took notice and included it as fact somewhere. Now that you ask, i'm also interested to see where exactly to be honest.
