General DC Comics Discussion Thread

@PromptedElephant641 thanks for the input. From what l have seen the essential divinity is the only paraconsistent tier 0, what happens if there beings which do not fit such any kind of logical description or are absolutely ineffable like the overvoid, swirl of the root and dematteis god? Do they settle for type 2?

By definition all Tier 0s have PP Type-3; however, as stated, when indexing their abilities only that which has been demonstrated is presented on the profile which is why all Tier 0 power and abilities sections say the following:
The PP Type-3 is granted already within the power of being an omnipotent Tier-0 being; any particular powers are then provided in the “specific applications include:” section

The Overvoid and Swirl of The Root are only granted in their “specific applications include:” section that which they have shown. In The Overvoid’s case, that is PP Type-1 and with The Swirl of The Root and DeMatteis depiction of God in DC, these two have demonstrated PP Type-3.

Many verses have outdated PP statistics based on older versions of the power; however, there is an on going revision thread that is taking care of these issues. In general, PP Type-3 (having 5 or more logic states) is very very hard to obtain and only a few characters in a few verses actually meet those qualifications. Of those few that do have the ability, most are just the bare minimum with 5 truth / logic states, there are only a handful of characters that have more than 5 with some even having infinite.

Coming to this can an ineffable being be PP Type-3?
True ineffability, such as through the ultimate interpretation of Negative Theology, is by definition Tier-0. As such, yes they would have PP Type-3; however, like with the other Tier 0s mentioned, it would only have the powers it has actually demonstrated as part of the “specific applications include:” section so unless it has a specific statement(s) showing evidence of PP Type-3, that would not be put on the profile.

Okay l see.

Which Issues are those?
Probably referring to the Superman run with Neron. Or the Where Thy sting, where Superman briefly connects with Lois using love and overcomes death. Not to be confused with Death of the Endless. But the martian god of death from DeMatteis Martian Manhunter run from the 90s. Otherwise, DeMatteis has never written a story with Nekron, as far as I'm aware.

The Issues are Superman: Man of Tomorrow #15 for the Neron comic. And the one shot Where Thy Sting for the Martian Death.

By the way, looking over the recent tier system thread. At least from my understanding of the changes. It's pointless to talk about High 1-A anything for any character or realm. Since the current High 1-A tiers are being moved down to 1-A and 1-A+. While High 1-A type 1 becomes just High 1-A and Type 2 becomes just High 1-A+. So the Creator would be High 1-A and Pralaya would be High 1-A+ after these changes. Nothing else in DC will be above 1-A. Outside of God, obviously.

It wasn’t the Martian God of Death but Superman’s own personal death entity, which implies that each being has their own personal death entity. It is a strange story, while Superman experiences it all within his mind, it is also is confirmed to have actually happened. However, It is not really something that can be scaled from though.

DeMatteis has written some great stories for DC, though in the VS space, this is unfortunately overlooked and only the feats are noticed.

DeMatteis is quite consistent in writing the same depiction of a Tier-0 God across multiple DC comic series and even across different publishers such as the Divine Creator for Marvel or in creator owned publications such as Seekers into Mystery. However, while his Tier-0 depictions of God are consistent, unfortunately his writing of 1-A and High-1A realms is less so. This is because while he writes realms at these levels, he also writes characters from lower levels of reality, particularly from the material world, easily interacting with these higher levels of the metaphysical world which breaks the rules of qualitative and meta-qualitative transcendence. While this isn’t always the case, it happens quite frequently in his work. Yes he has written many high level characters and has described high tier metaphysical structures, he has also shown on many an occasion low tier characters traveling to, through, and beyond these realms so it is important to separate the real high tier DeMatteis feats from those that violate the rules of qualitative and meta qualitative transcendence.

This is due to how his cosmology works. The breaks and bypass in qualitative transcendence is due to consciousness, transcendence, self realisation and spiritual journeys. Remember everyone in Dematteis works has the seed of the absolute within them. That's why to be fair his stories are a bit repetitive when it comes to the cosmology because it's the same exact formula.

Ohh, actually i don't want to explain this anymore but it still being discussed and i just want to prevent a thread.

Indestructible story of superman is real, Grant morrison finds Superman exiciting character that he is a self perpetuating idea & always have a comic. He stated it in interview, superman is already exist when he wasn't born yet and Superman will still exist when he is already a dust & idea. And he made a comic about how he felt about this, which is final crisis. And he also stated like this :

Morrison: Yeah, completely. As you know, from the very start of this, it was kind of me trying to do a 'final' statement on DCU superhero comics before I go off and have a rethink. Unmaking the DC Universe to the point of destruction then showing how its own internal rules will work to homeostatically reset it. Superman always saves the day or he's not Superman. It's a self-perpetuating idea. So I wanted to get in everything I felt about that, and I knew it was ambitious, but I actually do think we nailed it.

He called this self perpetuating idea of superman as an unimaginable natural defense when mandrakk thought the story will end like the story in book of limbo. Relentless idea is a rule to ensure no matter how many time there is a comics made with superman threatened, the comics & Superman will end up with superman survive and his story goes on or continue.
IGN Comics: You stated that you wanted Final Crisis and Beyond to be about the nature of story itself, and I definitely think you've succeeded in that regard, particularly in Beyond and FC #7. Again, there are so many layers to this, and I'd just like to get your thoughts on a few things I noticed:

First off, you've spoken about the power of story, and the power of the DC Universe in particular, and expressed a certain level of awe at how these creations and these stories outlast their creators significantly. This sentiment seems to play out directly when Zillo Valla faces down Mandrakk's dream of the ultimate void by telling him she found a story in the germ world that's unstoppable and indestructible, about a child rocketed to Earth from a doomed planet. Is that pretty much what you were going for there?

Morrison: Yeah, pretty much. The fact that in the DC Universe there is a story about a genuinely good and moral man who can't be beat, and the fact that the DC Universe exists in the real world means that humanity made up a story about a genuinely moral man who can't be beat. That's a really cool story to learn from, especially when we're under a lot of pressure in the world today from lots of angles. So again, like I said to you earlier, it's the idea of acknowledging a genuine depth of reality to these fictions. It's not the fourth wall, it's not post-modern or meta – I hate those terms because I think they just undermine the simple notion that everything we can experience is real, including dreams and stories. These characters are in here, in the universe with us, and they have s--t to tell us. And that's what I find really exciting. They're real in the sense that you can hold them in your hands and interact with them. They don't need to pretend to live in New York. It's much more real than that – they're actually alive in our hands.
He said its not 4th wall or meta, so it doesnt qualified for plot manipulation isn't it?

Its not a conventional type of fourth wall like TOAA, The Writer or Superman write the story at morrison's work desk. But superman as a character exist in human's mind as a self perpetuating idea. This relentless idea of him makes him will always have a comic book in our hand, we can say the story won't end with Superman truly defeated/destroyed. The story has to end with Superman continuing. Like Final Crisis. This morrison statement below is before the his previous statement i bold.
It's another twist on this relentless idea of realistic superhero comics, because the 'realism' in this one comes from the reader's acknowledgment that what he holds in his hands is a section of a real, alternate universe of superheroes, living out lives across decades.
"Holds in his hands" means a comic book read by readers. When you read a comic book, you hold the book in your hand. Superman will always have this comic book story. This is 4th wall but not the conventional one.

Morrison views CAS as manifestasi of superman's mission outside the germworld, not the story of superman that located deep within germworld. That's very contrast. What makes superman's mission success is because of real life human knowing how the story ends up with superman survive like usual comics across decade :

"oh, Superman will be killed forever, but don't worry DC will never really make it happen. It will end with superman survive and goes on just like previous stories." ↓↓↓
Morrison : I mean, in Superman Beyond we told a story that's told a million times, where the good strong guy goes up against the old corrupt evil bad guy who wants to prey on everything in his path, and the good guy elects to stop him. We've seen that story in every comic we've ever read and every movie we've ever seen, and yet it's still powerful. An appreciation for that particular story seems hardwired into the human nervous system.
Morrison wants final crisis about nature of story, how superman is indestructible & defeat threats. Its all because he is self perpetuating/relentless idea. It does combat applicable. Its limited because its not a type of plot manipulation where you can write anything in your thought. But self perpetuating idea of superman is ruling the story must be written in certain way, where they are always survive and continue.

Its indeed sounds bullshit, but the reason I was motivated to put it in superman's profile because there's a comic where this idea put in(Final Crisis).

These all have the same idea, other character views superman as unique character.

Apparently time trapper is only 1-C or low1-c here for some reason.
Imo he should be above at least low1-A or baseline 1-A. He exist above orrey of worlds and physical multiverse as a whole(a universe already have N number of higher dimensions if not infinite) and create pocket realities outside of known multiverse. He was ready to fight Omega Darkseid if everything else failed and also the first to precieve the threat of Darkseid.
