DC Pre Crisis Cosmology

INTRODUCTION

This CRT will attempt to be as comprehensive and direct as possible regarding the DC Universe in its old phase, seeking to go through the entire cosmology already well defined as the "pre-crisis", and then present the levels in an updated form. Much has been said recently about the current Omniverse and new concepts presented, but I feel that much of DC's old history has not yet been revised, and therefore, there is an outdated understanding of the cosmological level it traveled at that time.

The pre-crisis had several periods, from the 30s to the 80s, before having the reboot with the emergence of a new era called post-crisis. Pre-Crisis adopts the elements that began in the New Fun Comics magazine, from February 1935, until the culmination of the Crisis on Infinite Earths of 1985-86, when it ends. However, it is important to note that there are later comics that are canonically part of this continuity. Although they are exceptions, this is common for comics that had an extended hiatus, or some run that was continued or retold. The term "pre-Crisis" is used by industry professionals and consumers, and has been widely considered by the publisher for many years as a practical way of labeling different characters, stories, elements, contexts, etc.

An important part that should be highlighted is its subcategories: bronze, gold and silver era. Pre-Crisis lasted for five full decades since the beginning of what would become DC Comics, so many things in the history of the plot and storyline would have also undergone changes during that time, hence the emergence of subdivisions officially adopted by the publisher itself to categorize the phases in a more specific way, although in the end, they are all part of the same cosmology, which we can call "the classical cosmology".

The Golden Age of Comics was a period that began in 1938 and ended in the mid-1950s. The era was initiated by the publication of Action Comics #1 in June, which featured the first appearance of Superman and what we then know as "superheroes", continuing with other famous figures such as Batman and Wonder Woman. In this growing popularity in the context of World War II, which was considered the publisher's golden age, it then ended up consolidating itself at the top of comic books and expanding its portfolio, until it definitively became a global company in what became known as the Silver Age, which can also be interchanged with "Golden Age". In The Ages of Comic Books, by Davey Beauchamp, the term "Age of the Atom" (quoting Overstreet) is used for the period from 1946 to 1956, when comic books were unstoppable and DC continued to lead. The Silver Age begins in Showcase #4 of 1956, the publisher's pillars are expanded, and figures such as The Flash, Green Lantern, Black Hawk and Martian Manhunter become extremely popular. The Bronze Age is a term that appears less pertinently, and is also somewhat unusual; its only usefulness is to indicate the moment from which the publisher underwent an extremely abrupt change with the advent of Jack Kirby's arrival. The Bronze Age is widely recognized as having begun in the 1970s when DC published Jack Kirby's Fourth World and Superman: Sandman Saga, and then ended with the 1985-86 series — Crisis on Infinite Earths. It was this entire period that yielded not only the end of an era, but also a multiversal reboot of the internal history of most of its main projects.

So I believe that we already have a solid basis to start from.

1. Lower Planes

1.1 The two-dimensional plane is accessed when mass becomes anti-energy, contrary to third-dimensional forces such as magnetism.
- Mystery in Space (1951) #3

1.2 The third dimension is a projection of the fourth dimension.
- Mystery in Space (1951) #14

1.3 The microcosm is the dimension to which the Atom goes when it shrinks to an infinitesimal size. The microcosm is said to be vaster in relative size than the physical universe, and contains subatomic cosmos, possibly an infinite number, according to Red Tornado's statement that we can search for eternity.
- JLA #21

2. Usual Space/Time

2.1 Space-time is separated by levels of existence.
- Amazing World of DC Comics #12
Where each universe has its own space-time continuum.
- All-New Collectors' Edition #55
Where from each point in time, there are many possible futures, an infinite number.
- Superboy and the Legion of Superheroes #223

2.2 To travel through the Timestream — The Dimension of Time, the best method is using time bubbles.
- Action Comics #385
The Timestream is a realm where all times are one and none — something beyond the laws of known space and time.
- Superboy and the Legion of Superheroes v1 #233
All souls on Earth ascend to the fourth dimension through vibration.
  • Sensation Comics (1942) #30
  • The Aqua Dimension (Mera's hometown) is 4-D.

3. Universe

3.1 The Universe is infinite in space and matter.

3.2 When an object reaches the speed of light, its mass becomes infinite, this is the Speedforce. - Showcase v1 #4
3.3 Bgtzl shares the same space as Earth, but exists on the four-dimensional plane. - The Atlas of The Dc Universe #2
3.4 Hyperspace is the zone between universes, a space that is not space. - Super-Team #12 Moving through Hyperspace grants access to the fourth dimension. - Mystery in Space (1951) #67
3.5 The Bleed is the area between the layers of reality. - Death of the New Gods #4-5
3.6 The universe has existed for immense eons, "beyond the concept of number". - Wonder Woman v1 #293

Aqui está a tradução do texto para o inglês:

4. Higher Dimensions

4.1 The mesh that covers objects in outer space is a 4-D axis. - Mystery in Space (1951) #33 But there are higher spatial planes in the universe. - Mystery in Space (1951) #63 In fact, this corroborates with the other mention of spacetime being separated by different levels of reality, as it is reported here that the universe has several dimensional levels. - Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes #233

4.2 Beings from higher dimensions compared to those from lower dimensions are infinitely superior. See Mxyzptlk, for example, who is said to be two degrees of infinity superior to beings from the third dimension, and beings from the fifth dimension, such as Qwsp, encompass both time and hypertime, in addition to our spatial dimensions.

The Fifth Dimension is beyond width, height, and depth. It is important to note that in the pre-Crisis phase, unlike the post-Crisis era, the Fifth Dimension did not transcend the Universe; instead, it was just one of the infinite dimensions of the Cosmos. This is why, for each universe, there is a Fifth Dimension of its own that they encompass, as Mxyzptlk himself says. - Superman Family #208 - What happened to Superman.

4.3 There are other demonstrations of spatial dimensions beyond those of the fifth dimensional imps (which is the most recurring), of course, with all the context provided to treat them as legitimate geometric dimensions, in addition, all are in the Universe as a whole.
Seven higher dimensions. - Comic Cavalcade v1 #29
24 dimensions of the cosmos. - The Flash (1959) #116

4.4 There are invisible dimensions in the universe beyond our three-dimensional realm, such as the Nth dimension, which means something beyond the five spatial dimensions, or something that occupies countless but finite dimensions. - Strange Adventures #4
The Nth dimension is beyond spacetime. - Strange Adventures #4
This is furthered and we are informed that it is as if there were super-universes, and therefore there are those of an Nth dimension. - Strange Adventures #4
But it becomes clear that the total scope of the universe is of infinite higher dimensions. - Mystery in Space (1951) #114

4.5 Of course, in the variation of infinite possibilities that generate infinite universes, many diversify at a different dimensional level, in some, or rather, in all - there is a fifth dimension (that of Mxyzptlk), formerly, there are those with infinite dimensions, like the super-universes.

5. Multiverse

5.1 There are infinite timelines.

Justice League of America (1960) #244
DC Comics Year By Year (New Edition) #213
Superboy v1 #117
Captain Marvel Adventure #121
52 #3 (2006)
Mystery in Space (1951) #114
COIE #5

All of this began because Krona was seeking to discover the truth and secret of all existence, which resulted in a cataclysm that created a separate Universe of antimatter, his efforts then gave rise to a Multiverse that infinitely replicates universes.
52 #2 (2006)

The Multiverse is an infinite web where each reality is vibrating at different frequencies.
52 #4 (2006)

5.3 The first layer of material reality is known as the Spherical Universe, and can be accessed by going to measures far beyond the speed of light. There are other cosmos, and other globular universes; green, blue, white, purple, etc... - Mystery in Space (1951) #49

In conversation with Captain Bill Martin, it is revealed that the Multiverse comprises a hierarchy of universes in which another universe is referred to as a next dimension of space and an outer space. Globular universes are different from parallel universes like Earth-2, as they are invisible and require the dimensional barrier to be broken to be accessed. To enter here, the being would have to change its "hyperspatial" unit, which refers to spaces with more dimensions than the traditional three spatial dimensions. - Mystery in Space (1951) #52

5.4 The Multiverse exists in infinite layers. - Who's Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe #6

And this in no way refers to any kind of parallel reality, as it is guiding itself in the stories of Atari Force, in which we are informed that the Multiverse has infinite levels of existence. - Atari Force (1984) #12

6. Nexus

6.1 The Harbinger of the Anti-Monitor recorded everything that happened in all realities. - 52 #2 (2006)

It is a library of all realities, timelines, and universes. - 52 #10 (2006)

6.2 All time and space are accessible through the Rock of Eternity. - DC Challenge v1 #5

6.3 Darkworld is infinite, and Time and Space mean nothing in it. - Arion: Lord of Atlantis v1 #32 - Power Girl v1 #4

Darkworld fragments infinitely through images, but even so, it remains the same. - Arion - Lord of Atlantis #26

Darkworld is the source of all magical power in the universe, and at the very heart of Darkworld is a nexus through which the dimensions and worlds of the Multiverse can be accessed. - The Atlas of The DC Universe #2 - Arion - Lord of Atlantis #26

Darkworld is the Universal Consciousness. - Arion the Immortal #6

7. Transcendent Realms

7.1 The End of Time is a plane outside of dimensionality. - Action Comics #595

7.2 In the Astral Plane, there is no Time nor Space. - Showcase #60

7.3 Aethyr is potentially the cause of material existence, the creator of the laws of physics itself, and the author of reality itself - shaper of the Multiverse. - The Phantom Zone v1 #3

7.4 The Green transcends Mathematics and all Numbers. - Black Orchid #13 - Swamp Thing (1986) #46

7.5 A single wave of Entropy, personified by the entity Time Trapper, has the capacity to eradicate the entire Multiverse. - 52 #7 (2006)

7.6 Krona's actions divided the universe into two equal halves, positive matter and antimatter, and unleashed the forces of evil and chaos, resulting in the expansion of infinite universes. - The Atlas of The DC Universe #2 - 52 #6 (2006)

All this antimatter would come from the negative dimension, which is the antithesis of all known creation. - Who's Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe #16

An antimatter wall had the power to obliterate universe by universe. - 52 #4 (2006)

The antimatter wall itself also extended to the End of Time, where Time Trapper resides. - 52 #7 (2006)

7.7 In the middle place, there is no light or darkness, no pain or pleasure, no life, no death, o
nly a kind of Limbo. - Mercy

Limbo is completely without characteristics. There is no color, light, darkness, height, weight, depth, or time; Limbo is simply total nothingness. - The Atlas of The DC Universe #2

That'all for now.

Wouldn’t the cosmology mostly be unnafected by crisis on infinite earths, since that just affected the multiverse?

Can you make a tldr?
For what i get
Universe=2-A
Hyperspace=L1C
Fifth Dimension=L1C
Multiverse=Hgh 1-B+
Antimatter Universe=Multiverse
Limbo=1-A
TimeTrapper=1-A(?)

the Anti-monitor smashed everything tho and besides it the multiverse contains everything

Do we have proof for significant size for Fifth Dimension and Everything above?
For what i see they are describe as extended across the universe, with universes across the multi having more or less than 4D (3 spatial and 1 temporal) in those scans:

Besides sized of dimensions dont matter as there are infinite in numbers

These aren’t usable since they’re just random literary analysis books on comics.

Pre-Crisis Multiverse should be H1-B+/L1-A anyways though. Singular ‘numbered’ universes (like Earth-1, Earth-2, etc.) are Low 1-C due to having a hypertimeline (per this and this) and hence they contain Aleph_1 universes. They are just different temporal branches of the same ‘numbered’ universe, while those numbered universes are infinitely distributed in the same space, just with unlimited variations of the same positive matter. So this would just be 2^Aleph_1, or Aleph_2 universes, or H1-B+. Then you have the Beginning/End of Time, Limbo, Phantom Zone, etc.
