Crazy how Simon was literally right there and instead they use Kyle. I'd have preferred Kyle not show up if this is what he's used for. Simon was the literal co-star of that entire book and yet Jessica is getting all the fame and focus while he's just thrown into the trash to be forgotten.

My honest view is that Kyle Rayner is only there to get the more core DC fans interested. The fact that Jessica Cruz is the lead and Kyle is just relegated to love interest status should be a crime. Jessica already appeared in several animations and movies so I don't even get why they want to use her yet again. Was she that popular in them and I'm just out of touch? Don't get me wrong, I prefer Jessica over Simon Baz. But I really have no interest in watching a teenage Jessica (15 yr old) hooking up with presumably a teenage Kyle Rayner. If the details are true about this being based around her as a teenager.
 
In Justice League: Dark Tomorrow Special #1, the Waverider from the Legends of Tomorrow series appears, many events from the series are referenced, an unidentified person introduces himself as a Legend, which is the name they call themselves in the series, and Marc Guggenheim, co-creator of the Arrowverse, is listed as the writer.

Maybe we'll get an Arrowverse and DC Comics crossover.

Jessica was in Superhero Girls, and likely in other prominent stories as you said, so the public at large is likely more familiar with her than with Kyle and Simon. 🙏

Jessica was also the green Lantern chosen for the justice league in both the comic version and movie version of the rwby Crossover too

Jessica is getting all the love this decade it seems
 
Well, I personally do not mind if John Stewart, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, and Jo Mullein receive more attention. I strongly dislike Guy Gardner, find Hal Jordan unlikeable, and although Kyle Rayner is reasonably likeable, I do not have any strong affinity for him. 🙏

Fair enough. Though, I think it's primarily DC's fault why some of their legacy characters aren't popular with, or known by more modern fans. They've had decades to use Kyle Rayner character in multiple ways. But they always chose Hal Jordan and a bit of John Stewart, in relation to their animated works. Then when they need to switch things up a bit and expand more, they decide to now choose Jessica several times for that pick. How do they expect a character to grow a fanbase outside of the comics if they refuse to use them outside of the comics? And it's not like they even tried it, earnestly.
 
I personally don't enjoy a lot of Stewart.

Hal hasn't been the main Green Lantern in over a decade even tho he's supposed to be THE GL, and Kyle is even worse, we hadn't had an adaptation of him af all except for some cameos.
I find John a little bit boring, and hate Guy in all of his appearances except for a handful of them, and I couldn't care less about Simon.

Jessica is cool, tho.

Hal > Kyle > Jess > Stewart > Guy > Simon.

Guy can either be very entertaining or leave you wondering "How is this dude considered a hero?" depending on who's writing.

Simon could disappear from the comics and I wouldn't care too much.

Jo Mullein is alright.

Jessica, John, and especially Kyle are great characters and I hope they get some spotlight in the upcoming film universe.

If I remember correctly, Guy Gardner once wanted to let the entire populations of Russia and Eastern Europe be wiped out by nuclear armageddon because he considered them to be "commies". He definitely isn't a true hero.

Booster Gold went through lots of character development under Dan Jurgens, so I don't like what Tom King did to completely regress him, but I think that Tom had the right idea about Guy. 🙏

I've started dipping my toes into DC with All-Star Superman today. A friend recommended it to me. So far I'm on Issue #2 and I'm enjoying it.

That said, I've been told to read the new Compacts first. Is there a recommended way to read the Vertigo lineup of DC comics? Was wondering about it since I've always had an interest in The Sandman.
 
Well, I personally dislike Vertigo titles, so it is likely better to get recommendations from somebody else instead. 🙏

In recent years, DC has released the deluxe edition of Sandman which has some of the more connected side stories and such within it. So you can start there and then move forward with Books of Magic (1990) and Dreaming (1996). Death and Destiny have their side comics that you can read if you so choose to. And if there's any Sandman Presents works that weren't included in the Deluxe edition, you can read those as well. It's not really required to read works like Mike Carey Lucifer, Dead Boy Detectives or the Books of Magic 75 issue run and it's many spin off runs. But if you want to, you can include them in your read. After you finish those, you can jump right into Sandman Overture and Sandman Universe comics. These would include comics like Dreaming 2018, Books of Magic 2018, Lucifer 2018 (This is not connected to Mike Carey Lucifer or Lucifer 2016 at all) and a few others under the Sandman Universe branding.

And to clarify, the list above is the more "canon"/connected parts of Vertigo. Which Sandman represents a large part of. You have things like Unwritten, American Vampire, the Preacher series and so on but those have no connection to Sandman or even DC in general. As some are creator owned while others are intentionally created with the explicit purpose of being outside of DC. You can read them if you want but they're not required.
 
So, what do you all think about DC Comics' new "DC K.O." event? I worry about that I may have helped to create a monster by accidentally making the public even more fixated on distasteful pointless ultraviolence, as evidenced by resulting works such as this and the "Versus" manga.

My intent was just to help create an archive for reliable character statistics, and let our members have some comparatively irrelevant fun by voting for seemingly harmless "who would win" matchups, but the end result may have turned out considerably more destructive than that. 🙏🙁

Dude, it's not that deep. It's just an excuse to have characters do cool fights against each other. No need to be all pretentious by saying shit like "distasteful pointless ultraviolence" as if this is some crime against literature.
