Elden Ring General Discussion

Powerscaling aside, the consensus seems to be this is a pretty fun game but it's got a lot of untapped potential and it's missing some very basic multiplayer features (no voice chat, wtf? No duos, no crossplay) and aside from the nightlords and returning souls bosses, the boss selection is pretty bad (waiting for the night only to fight an ulcerated tree spirit sounds extremely disappointing I won't lie). I really hope From continues to update the game down the line because i do think it's got a lot of potential

Ngl, for as difficult as it has been to find a third person, I'm frankly glad Fromsoft initially didn't compromise their design to make a two player mode. Solo play itself was just something they added to cause they basically needed it to sell the game, but even then they didn't change any part of their design for it (other than scaling).

The no voice chat thing is a bit annoying, but public VC in games has always been very hit or miss anyways.

I'm not really disappointed completely with the bossess, but I do definitely agree that they kinda wasted using some of their best assets. They could've easily picked at least one more boss from each DS game to add, and maybe even a few more shardbearers (notably I think Fortisaxx, Mohg, Maliketh, and Radahn would've made great night bosses even if they were renamed to generic versions).

But yeah, the game itself isn't really bad and I haven't seen complaints about that. Just that they idea doesn't feel taken to its full potential, or corners were cut in some way to make the idea easier to implement (notably the lack of map variety beyond the 4 shifting earth events, although I think I heard they would add new maps in the future or just new map events).

Alright everyone, now that Nightreign is out, here's my idea for a game plan. Let me know what you all think.

I'll start playing the game tomorrow, going through, getting as much information I can so that we can outline things like the scaling and feats of the game in this thread. It'll probably be a fair bit before any profiles can exactly be made, especially since he need to grasp the story and any and all possible connections to Elden Ring proper.

When it comes to making profiles, there are a few things I want to note. Firstly, when it comes to the Nightfarers, realistically none of them can have completed profiles UNTIL we finish the Tarnished. This is because around 80% of their kit are all things that the Tarnished uses, be it weapons, spells, talismans, or consumables. Thus, I'm going to mention again that I have a discord server dedicated to working on categorizing info for the Tarnished, and if you would like to come and help please let me know. Realistically, I think 6-10 people could split up the work pretty well, and currently I have 2 other people in the server who have expressed interest in helping. The faster this gets done, the faster we can make new profiles for all of these great characters.

Now, for bosses. The Nightlords themselves are actually the easiest of this bunch. They are all new characters with most of their information kept to Nightreign. Some may need special info from things we know in Elden Ring, such Libra and how some info of how madness works is in base Elden Ring.

Returning bosses like Morgott, Godrick, and some of the more basic enemies should basically just receive new keys that include their new scaling or powers from the game. The only catch to this, for now, is the Dark Souls bosses. Not only do we have little idea how they actually are appearing in Nightreign, but also Dark Souls is in such a state of disrepair that honestly it should be dealt with before any of their stuff is put on Elden Ring.

Again, let me know what you all think, and have fun Nightfarers!

Y'all think that morgotts new bloodflame attack is just where he slashes regularly and generates all those, or is it a situation where he moves so fast you cant see him generate all those bloodflame slashes. 'Cause from everything prior each bloodflame slash has to be individually made with a slash of your own

I’m tempted to think it’s the latter, since every other instance of blood flame we see involves individual tears sun to the formless mother. Like you can’t just summon wounds to make blood flame, you need to cut into her.

How's everyone's playthrough going so far? Tried Executor and got my butt handed to me with those missed parry timings. Forgot this was Elden Ring with its long and delayed boss combos. Decided to stick to Recluse and Duchess for now as I get better. Haven't seen a Dark Souls boss yet, though can't wait for that.

Nowhere, I didn't by the game and I'm not planning on buying it

Can we calc it though?
That's the problem, we literally have no idea what it is exactly. It's either a general AP feat that we can interpret as a certain level, something we'd need to calc, or simply just hax.

Getting it this afternoon!

So how are we dealing with the cutting the sky thing?
I can probably cook something up if I knew wtf that even meant.

Also it's fun so far, but you need a squad otherwise there's no point like playing Monster Hunter solo, imagine not having any friends lmao.
It's like, very good solid fun game if you play it as intended, mid af if you do it alone.

I'll agree with that probably, although I plan to do solo runs after I'm finished my first few playthroughs with some characters.

Also, you'll see

Yeah but can we calc it like, just for the sake of it? Just to see what it would give us

Straight ass at the game, and you can't even blame the other team like in other Fortnite type games.

Playing through the game right now with a friend

all ima say is HOLY MOLY ADEL THE GAPING JAW IS ABSOULTE CINEMA

still needa fight the other 6 nightlords though

I have definitive proof that base margit greatly scales above the nameless king. It takes margit 2 parries to stance break. However when I was fighting the nameless king in my many many dark drift knight attemps. He only broke after one. And 2 > 1 so it can deduced that base margit from storm viel solos most of the dark souls verse and mid difs the nameless king/s.

Okay serious though fighting the nameless king in nightreign was a trip. Hearing the ds3 sound design was nice but also a bit weird and those slight attack timing changes can really screw with ya a bit. But honestly the craziest part was that they actually gave the player the ability to parry him. I love to parry bosses when I can and being able to do it to the nameless king of all people was insanely fun. Wonder if you can parry some of the other returning bosses...

I disagree this game is legit pretty fun solo I beat 5 nightlords solo so far and its fun, still getting my ass handed to me by the final boss but damn he cool.

Yeah this is ultimately the largest hangup. Iirc the profile has always been delayed due to the amount of spells and abilities they get compared to other FromSoft people.

Its either spatial manipulation for distorting the skybox and opening a hole to a new realm or an AP feat for slicing through a punch of weird clouds. Considering the messed up geography of the area I'm leaning towards the former.

If you'd like to help out, I can invite you to the server I set up to work on it.

The thing is that when he does this feat, he is summoning the skybox of the other Nightlords (which might I mention gain their powers by being aspects of the Nightlord and the Night itself). These different skyboxes aren't just weirdly colored skies since many of them, primarily Libra's and Fulghor's, involve them bring clouds overhead. There's also fact that we face all of the Nightlords in the same location, so it isn't like these are different areas he is making portals too. He is actively either warping space, or physically changing something by cutting through his night, and bringing an aspect to the forefront.

There's also the fact that Heolstor's night itself appears to be a swirling, distorted ring of stars, but that's also something we need to work out later.

So uh, what the **** is happening during Adel's phase 2 change

his sky seems to most interesting of all the nightlords, besides the final one from what ive heard

Sure

Every Nightlord to my knowledge, has a mid-stage boss transition that results in the space being distorted and the skybox changed. Adel when fully tapping into Gravity Magic for example, makes its sky all purple.

This part I'm not sure about. The Nightlord, when it rose from the Nox's cities, fragmented both time and space. It's why the ending has the PCs become Grace and travel back in time to prevent the story from happening by making the Old God retreat during the Shattering. So they make look similar but I don't think they're the same location necessarily. Additionally, when the Nightlord does cut the Skybox, if you look really close at it, you can see the two large objects at the start of every Nightlord battle slanted in the background.

So imo he cut space when he did the feat.

Some of them involve just changing the skyboxes, and also bringing in some other weird visual effects. Others, like the two I mentioned (and I guess Caligo too with his fog) bring clouds in.

Okay I'm ngl, I am NOT finished the story, so I'll need to get back to you on this part lmao. What I said before was just guess's based on what I've seen. I was mostly just arguing against it being a portal somewhere else, but either a distortion of space or some kind of AP feat.

Is adels sky in phase 2 a massive black hole or just really pretty space dust looking stuff
So when this boss was revealed I really was hoping he was going to be a physically personified black hole with gravity magic, but sadly that aesthetic isn't there. Idk what exactly his skybox is, but I don't think it's a black hole.
