This is about the TV series Devon Ke Dev... Mahadev, and I wanted to check if it fits the guidelines here. While it uses characters from Hindu mythology, it also adapts many stories directly from Hindu scriptures, making it feel more like a collection of tales than just independent stories. The series draws heavily from texts like the Shiva Purana, so I wonder if this could be seen as too religious for the site. I'll mention some arcs that mirrors the tex from Puranas.

For instance, the story of Shiva and Sati is based on the Shiva Purana (Rudra Samhita), which describes Sati’s deep love for Shiva, her challenges, and her sacrifice during Daksha’s yagna. The show closely follows these events, reflecting the core elements of the original narrative.

Another significant tale is that of Bhasmasura, also adapted from the Shiva Purana. In this story, Shiva grants Bhasmasura the power to turn anyone to ashes by placing his hand on their head. However, Bhasmasura becomes arrogant and attempts to use this boon on Shiva himself. The series effectively shows Vishnu's clever intervention to save Shiva.

The adaptation of Shiva as Neelkanth comes from both the Vishnu Purana and the Shiva Purana. During the Samudra Manthan, Shiva drinks the poison Halahala to protect all beings, turning his throat blue and earning the title Neelkanth. This portrayal remains faithful to the traditional account.

Tldr; While the series does add drama and is also not a 100% accurate depiction. However, it draws too much from the Puranas (Holy Scriptures of Hinduism) to simply pass as independent stories using Hindu characters.

Ps. There are more characters from such show here such Ganesha, Krishna but the only show I've watched is this so can't say how much they adapt from puranas.

It fit, we even have Journey to the West which even have texts straight out from Buddhism and Taoism/Daoism, as long as the verse is adaptation then it is fine, we have multiple verses adapted and incorporated mythologies in them

Journey to the West definitely pulls from Buddhist and Taoist ideas but its all used creatively to build a fictional world. Take Sun Wukong, for ex, he’s inspired by both mythology and religious symbolism but he’s totally his own character. His journey isn’t about preaching Buddhism directly. Its about learning humility, self-control, and wisdom, with a lot of action and humor mixed in. The story uses elements of religion and folklore to build Sun Wukong’s character and make the adventure more engaging, but its not trying to be a religious text itself.

This is different from a show like Devon Ke Dev Mahadev, which follows story of shiva from puranas and directly portrays Hindu gods and religious stories more faithfully and its almost a 7:3. If we’re going that way, you could probably make a similar case for almost any religion, since tons of books and shows adapt religious ideas like that

Devo ke Dev Mahadev is like a 1:1 adaptation, unlike many of the verses that are adaptations of myths/religions

I don't know what our modern standards on series that invoke religion are like.

I think I remember @Ultima_Reality being in a big thread about that.

here there is a thread going on about this

If this series uses the Hindu religion and cosmology literally, it seems too controversial for our purposes.

@AKM sama @Agnaa @Mr. Bambu @DarkGrath

What do you think? 🙏
Well, someone probably should actually look into Hindu texts to compare with this TV series and......well, in extreme case, make a revision thread to decide to either keep or nuke this profile. From my limited understanding of Hindu myth, it seem that this verse draw texts from the myth on similar level as Journey to the West, it could be even more but idk, someone should do some research

@Reiner04 was the one who made those profiles should we get him here?

We should probably close this thread, since the thread I am quoting already reached a conclusion. Religious figures aren't allowed.
