Disney Book Canonical Questions

Alright, so I was about to go do some research on these characters, but then I figured I should ask about this first. So most of these characters actually have a lot of extended media. The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, all had there own tv show for example, and the former two also had some direct to video sequels.

However, there is also a bunch of literature for these characters. Frozen just had a book come out to tie into Frozen 2. There's a line of books that details the past of the Disney villains, all fairly canon to my knowledge. Heck, The Little Mermaid had a Marvel comic run that took place during the tv show.

My question is how valid these things would be considered for profiles? I already know the tv shows have some conflicting canon yet they're still looked at. So shouldn't the supporting books and comics be as well?

I'm referring to Disney Licensed content referring to the animated versions of these characters of course.
