Well the first thing he usually does is throw a book and try to decapitate them.

If that doesn't work then he begins busting out the more versatile stuff like Teleportation, Body Puppetry, fire, summoning, etc.

Joseph should be able to dodge the first thing by predicting he would throw the book.

Do some of his attacks need to be close to his opponent?

Teleportation is actually something that happens to the opponent. He teleports them up close and punches, kicks, etc. Body Puppetry, he says "look over there" and the target actually turns and looks in whichever direction regardless of whether of not they're really that gullible. Fire can either be shot out from his hands or in the form of a fireball larger than Earth itself. This is actually the High 6-A attack mentioned on his profile, but it doesn't work if the other person can see him cross and uncross his arms. And summoning summons 4 or 5 shadow demon-esque creatures to all gang up on him.

The fireball is Joseph's biggest problem. Trying to beat Joseph physically means getting one-shot or still heavily injured by Hamon, regardless to where is Joseph looking.

The demons may also be a problem.

The body puppetry doesn't just make them look elsewhere, they're actually force to turn their entire upper body. That must be at least somewhat of a hindrance to Joseph in a fist fight. And suddenly being teleported unwillingly seems like it'd catch him off at least once or twice as well.

I'm not sure if pre-training can fully do it, but he should be able to coat different parts or even his entire body in hamon if needed.

Well, now that I remember back, he never used the "look over there" thing himself. It was used by someone who had the same powers as him so he ca but he's more likely to use the teleportation, summoning, or fire.

Actually (according to his profile anyways)

Joseph scales to Jonathan, who scale to Dio, who is superior to 1.07 Tons DIO
