Attack on Titan discussion thread

I feel it'd be really weird if the story were to continue on from here tbh. It's just... I think the chapter was just underwhelming.

I believe the disappointment is because Eren got character assassinated, and some plotlines are underdeveloped or shelved. Eren's monologues (especially those after the timeskip) are now retroactively pure cringe. Eren had no endgame for doing the rumbling over other options; he felt like it because it is his destiny, so he made Titan Dina eat his mother, started the Rumbling, and orchestrated his death by the girl he loves. At the end of the day he was merely a slave mindcontrolled by the Founding Titan. What he knows is that he obsessively wants Mikasa to be his everything despite showing her the opposite of affection for 10 years, and he is devastated by getting family-zoned. If Eren showed more affection for Mikasa, or if Mikasa was more forward, or if Eren was not extremely dense about Mikasa's feelings, then the genocide thing probably wouldn't have happened. Maybe the whole plot was to push Mikasa so far that she resorts to killing Eren, so that Mikasa is able to teach Ymir how to break free from her 'love'?
It is ambiguous whether the characters will have a happy-ish ending. It depends on the state of the remnant of humanity, and how much technology is at their disposal; they are more pissed off than ever and if they are capable of launching a war for the extermination of Eldians after a few years or decades, then they will.
Hm, I guess I can see why that would upset people

Eren's main plan was to save his friends and Paradise, and he did this by making his friends the heroes of the world and by wiping out 80% of humanity, he never expected to fully kill humanity, but he did know he was going to kill 80% of humanity, in the end, Eren saw that entire future as an inevitability and he had to follow through with it, and along the way, he realized that he had to be the one to send a titan to eat his mom as well in order to get him where he was, it turns out Eren was a slave to his future the whole time, it makes him far more tragic as it turns out from the second he learned of the future, he knew he will never truly be free

This does change a lot tho and puts a lot of things into a different context/ISPOILER]

I'm gonna say that the kind of direction of the ending that Isayama chose doesn't necessarily suck. Just that it could've been executed far better than how came to be.

Huh, now I realized why I didn't like it. It felt rushed and crammed and just thrown in your face. It lacked proper build up to it, and while it is a sweet ending, with everything just thrown to your face and it's resolved instantly. It feel underwhelming and kinda cheap

Yeah, I'd say people are overreacting a bit because they didn't get the ending that they wanted. It's definitely not perfect, and there would be things that we probably wouldn't be able to accept regardless. But this exact direction that Isayama took with this ending could've been much better if it was just a bit longer. The entire Alliance stopping the Rumbling as well.

In a way, it's not surprising considering how much certain AoT fans overhyped the manga and set extremely high expectations, among the angriest towards this ending are probably those people who considered AoT as a Tier 0 God's gift to the world.

Yeah, AOT was way too overhyped for it's own good. I don't hate the ending, I just think it could've been done a lot better. As it stands, it's very rushed and overall "alright" but sweet ending, that could've been far better had it been given more time to be fleshed out

This is basically me, I don't hate the ending by any means and I don't think all the relevations in this chapter came out of nowhere

But it has some issues and is overall meh, but I wasn't really expecting anything at all, so I wasn't that let down

People wanted the genocide ending because they're edgy lmaoooo. Their lord and savior Ereh Yagger ended up being a fraud! A simp! A pathetic sac of shit! I was laughing my ass off when I saw Armin call Eren pathetic. That shit was poetic justice. Eren was crying his ass off saying "NOOOO MY MIKASA!! EVEN IF I DIE!!" Yet he treats her as if she's an annoying little sister. Poor Mikasa, and Poor Eren too tbh.

I was happy when I saw Gabi, Falco and Levi in that one shot though. I loved seeing those particular three characters together for some reason. It aint as bad as people say it is tho, I just wish everything wasn't rushed.

Except Eren isn't a fraud, he still knowingly killed 80% of humanity... Not full out genocide, but he's still a mass murderer...

Also Eren outbursting like that was in a moment of weakness, and his feelings for not wanting Mikasa to find someone else because he loves her is a very real and human emotion, that's the whole point of this last chapter, to show Eren's weakness and vulnerability

Transforming Eren into a literal mentally ill person in the last chapter was not the best idea + other things, like Reiner being a pervert at the last minute or worm-kun being totally pointless.
Also this chapter feels extraordinarily out of tone with the rest of the manga to me.
But that's my opinion.

Transforming Eren into a literal mentally ill person
Uh... He was mentally ill before this chapter, this is the same guy who willingly killed millions because he was disappointed with the world...

He was always mentally ill...

By fraud I mean he's not super ultra badass chad everyone is making himout to be.

I personally feel a lil disappointed because at the start I thought he was gonna do a leluch so when he said that he was legit gonna kill everyone I was happy my expectation was wrong but then it ended with a leluch.

Well he less like Lelouch because he did still mass murder a **** ton of people...

Like he still accomplished 80% of his stated goal...

At least Lelouch achieved a "peace"...
Also f*ck Ymir! 2000 years of suffering just because of her Stockholm Syndrome with Fritz the rapist and her wish to see a girl slit her beloved's throat.
What a sick joke!

@Cyberblader90

I did read that and...

1. Eren was fighting for what was beyond the war, which was hope for his friends and paradise island to live happy lives, he knew they would end up defeating him, but he didn't know if they would be able to achieve said happy lives

2. Eren doesn't say that he doesn't know why he want to do the rumbling, he still says in the final chapter that he wants to do it to make the world a clean slate, all he says that his personal desire for freedom and why his innate desires have always been about that is something he doesn't know, he understands who he is, he just doesn't know why he personally is like that

3. I don't know why that article thinks that Eren was ever doing the plan for himself outside of wanting to wipe the world clean, he flat out wasn't, this whole time, it's been for Paradise Island and his friends, he was never fighting for his own survival, hell he only had 4 years left to live anyways, he knew he was going to die anyways

The ending was a mess and did not fit into the series at all. Felt more like yama trying to look for a cop out at the last minute. Character assassination at it's finest

For me endings make or break series for the most part....this broke AoT like Bane did Batman. Overall 5-6/10 for the series.....it was a ride at least

Depends on what story you refer too, most of us do hate bad endings to characters and stories

For me it isn't a bad ending at all, rushed? Sure but its nowhere that bad, peoples just being overreacting and some shit because their fave manga who being a butcher house turned into a happy place in the end, if anything this is the readers fault

Imo the ending was bull thank God I didn't invest in the story, I would Have felt weird. He literally destroyed eren character. Idk even what hell was the point he was trying to convey it wasn't even sad/mobide just trash. And the last panel really pissed me off the cake wasn't even three layers.

See? This is the example
