If they start at base , i would say Askin can just poison him with his reiatsu and can gain immunity to it.
After that no matter how much Gerard get stronger , he can't harm Askin.
But Gerard can't die too.

As long as Gerard is taking physical damage he will keep getting stronger and eventually will overwhelm Askin.
