The more I think about how he chose a talking monster cell to convince Sonic, the funnier it is.

Ngl, this chapter sucked too much.

Like, I can understand that side plots chapters aren't as good as chapters from MA arc, but this is disappointing to the extreme.
 
I mean, even if the next chapter is peak fiction surpassing Boros and Saitama fight, this chapter is way too bad.

It is rushed as hell. The end of the previous chapter seems disconnected to the actual one (we ended with FF talking with God-Sonic, and now we begin without seeing the conclusion, just with Sonic). We didn't see if FF actually was about to touch God. Just think about it: 1 or 2 pages of FF about to touch God, just for it to be interrumpted by Sonic attacking Empty Void

Also, what the hell are these interactions? Is God that bad to convince people that his only way to convince Sonic is to create that joke monster cell dancing?

And, Sonic damaging Empty Void? That means Empty Void is fodder to Blast... or that it is a PIS. I really, really hope for the second, or that at the very least Empty Void gets a massive power up before fighting Blast

I agree with most of these points

Yeah it's definitely rushed... Murata can still obviously draw beautiful art based on the volume 30 cover, but he's clearly working on far more things right now. Volume 30 obviously, but I will say I was expecting a longer chapter than 10 pages.

Could it be a few pages are missing from the start? It's very strange how we went from Flashy talking to God to Sonic slashing Empty Void, you think you would have been a few pages continuing Flashy's vision and then interrupting that with the slash.

And yeah, Sonic drawing blood from Empty Void is not a good look at all. We kinda know Sonic is much stronger now but like... the last time we saw him he lost to literal dog poop and now God's mocking him with talking food, hard to take him seriously if the manga doesn't let him do more than be comedic relief and a background for Flashy to shine against.

Basically, Sonic cutting up Empty Void out of the blue makes Empty Void look weak instead of making Sonic look really strong
 
I mean, even if Murata is working in far more things, I prefer to wait 1 month for a chapter more complete than see things this rushed.

I think OPM publishing a chapter per 2 weeks is a mistake

The less time Murata has the worse his backgrounds get. If you see Web Chapters with basically no backgrounds, like with this one, it means he basically blitzed it to meet some deadline.
 
Nah, Murata is done working on Volumes. If the volume cover is released then it's already printed and the page count is already shown a while back.

God is pretty much a non-threat joke at this point. Seems that even a child can see through his illusions.

The power scaling is hilariously inconsistent. One moment Void is blitzing, completely dominant, and the next he's getting tagged and cleaved through by Sonic. Then he tanks a punch from Blast??? What the ****?

Then it just ends? 12 pages and it ends? At that point I don't even want the chapter.

And the art quality is literally worse than some weekly manga despite thag. Jesus Christ. Just put the series on hold if it's going to be some crappy mindless slop. I get he has other things he's doing but that shouldn't be justification for whatever this is supposed to be.

I think its more a personality based thing. Garou was dumb and touched God, Tornado resisted it because of what Blast said, Flashy was going to fall for it and Sonic succeeded because God went after him in the dumbest possible way.

While I dislike the power scaling of the series once Neuron Psykos became a thing, in this case I think its more Void being hit by a surprise attack more than anything considering he avoided Sonic and Flashy right after

Blast doesn't want to kill him tbf, he wants to question him and try to break God's corruption.

I think the biggest thing with OPM is two fold:
  • Murata/ONE have made characters way more tankier than they were earlier in the series
  • OPM is closer to a western comic in terms of inconsistent character scaling than it is a Shonen Manga
Say what you want on Dragon Ball as an example, but generally the next dude is comparable to or better than the last dude.

Yeah I'm with you. Murata does excellent work but when he rushes like this the quality and pacing suffers.
 
I already said it stop downplaying Sonic. He's not that far from attaining Flashy's current power.

Somehow I agree but where in a comedy manga after all. I just find it hilarious.

Holy hell I'm disappointed. This chapter is doodoo water ngl.

If I blame anything for it, it's Murata being way overworked and ONE tackling too many series at once. Consistently pumping out a chapter every 2 weeks is gonna be unimaginably draining, especially when considering that he probably isn't even rich from it which he should be. Probably a case of burnout. He probably took this chapter a bit more lazily to build up for the next chapter which will have a big fight.

In terms of specific details:


I don't hate the idea of Sonic saving Flashy Flash. But Sonic cutting Void is just silly. Would've been better if Sonic cut Flashy Flash to snap him out of it. I still remember when ONE and Murata got advice on scaling Metal Bat, Bang, and Bomb from a literal STREAM VIEWER. So it's not shocking I guess.

The illusion God gave Sonic makes God look like a pathetic joke. There was SOOOOOOO much potential there and they made it a gag scene? A series can be filled with comedy, but when your scenes include a serious villain, TREAT THEM PROPERLY. God is not a joke, he shouldn't be portrayed as a joke, yet he was and it's just disappointing. In fact, I know a series that does this well, Adventure Time with the Lich. Adventure Time is a more light-hearted series with a lot of comedy. It still has powerful messages and whatnot, but it's just wholesome fun most of the time. When the Lich enters the picture the series takes on a very serious note, and he is NEVER played for gags. In fact this is mentioned in his old concept art an summary.

Murata and ONE should take notes on villain writing. I hope this is the only time God is done so dirty.

Moving on; the chapter was so short I was actually BAFFLED when it ended. I couldn't believe it. Again, going back to earlier, I think it's understandable that sometimes Murata is not gonna perform at his peak and he really could use more breaks. In fact if the tweet showing an image of the HA HQ crumbling is an animated page next chapter for the Blast Vs. Void fight, I'd bet next chapter will make up for this. But frankly, if things are gonna be that way, I'd genuinely rather just take a 2 week delay so that next chapter would be massive, but oh well, I guess.

Not much else to say. A frankly lack-luster chapter and perhaps one of the worst in the manga's history. I love and appreciate Murata and his work but bro just take a break if you need it. I'd rather wait and see your best than whine so you rush yourself and produce your worst. I wouldn't be surprised if this chapter got a redraw, especially looking back at the infamous "Saitama lecturing Garou" scene which got redrawn and rectonned literally immediately. Anyone got that meme where Monster Garou, Saitama, and the moon have clown noses and hair? That's a pretty good embodiment of how I felt about this chapter.
 
Imagine if instead of a stupid talking food gag the illusion was Saitama beating him over and over again or something. Could've been so good...
 
Sonic cutting Void isn't that crazy, that's normal off-guard + slashing damage shit.

God isn't taking Sonic seriously, because no one does. That isn't out of the ordinary.

Blast... Blast is just really really cool, I got nothing else to say about him.

Id call this a great chapter if this manga released one every week. Bit of a long wait for not that much. Nice art tho.
 
It is a decent or even a good chapter if you look at it from a normal manga's perspective but this is one punch man so people have much higher expectations

Any scaling between Sonic and Blast wouldn't work anyway, even if Void is shown to be Blast-level in the next chapter, Sonic slashing him would be a very, very blalant outlier, no way him, and therefore Flash and few other characters, scale to anything near 4-A, not for now at least

I did and your wrong him being off guard is irrelevant you think if saitama or blast is caught off guard they are getting sliced up by sonic obviously not at some point your opponent is to strong to be hurt and void getting hurt means he’s a fraud

We have rules specifically for piercing damage because this happens so much in fiction, and this "fraud" shit for characters you keep doing just because they haven't had time to do anything is so annoying.
