Minor Dark Souls Character Clean up and revisions

Alright, well it seems like my productive spell has worn off so it's time to get this up before I lasp into inactivity for the next few months. Basically a bunch of DS Character pages are, in my personal opinion, lacking in certian areas and I'm tired of looking at Blood Manipulation on Percillia's page ready to fix them up. This first revision will only touch bosses and NPCs from DS1. Ill get to DS2, 3 and Bloodborne later.

The first thing I'd like to touch upon is resistances. All bosses and Player characters in the Soulsborne games have resistance stats to certian elements in the game. For DS1's PC these stats are Magic, Fire, Lightning, Toxi, Bleeding effects and Curse Manipulation/Petrification. Because the PC has these stats even without armor it should mean that Undead natually resist each of these even if to just a limited degree.

Bosses also have similar resistance stats but this might be a little more contriversal considering this would give dragons a resistance to Lightning. For reference here are the boss stats: Magic, Fire, Lightning, Toxin Manipulation and Bleeding effects. Even Seath has has a lightning resist stat and it's compairable to other bosses. In lore it's mentioned that Gywn's lightning peeled off the dragons stone scales, robbing them of their source of immortality so it's probably only Eternal Dragons with the actual lightning weakness. It should also be noted that most if not all DS Characters should have Type 2 Immortality considering back and gut stabs are a thing. EDIT: Wokista mentioned this which I'd like to add; Most bosses also resist mind manip in some form from Rapport and Bambu mentioned some limited resistance to Soul Manipulation due to several spells literally blasting people with Soul.

Double EDIT: As mentioned by Sir Ovens, all characters that use soapstones should get Limited Summoning, Dimensional Travel via Red Eye Orb and Eye of Death. Also any creators of rings get Power Bestowal.

The above changes should be aplied to all characters mentioned in this thread and the more personal changes to each will be mentioned below as the characters are brought up.

Great Lord Gwy
First up Gwyn doesn't need two keys. The only difference between them is AP and that can just be noted in the relevant stats. His soul should be removed as standard equipment and switched with his sword.

Gravelord Nito
Nito need so minor additions and clean up in his powers section as well as his soul switched with his sword in equipment, plus the addition of a notable attacks section reflecting his move set in his boss fight.

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

  • Gravelord Sword attacks: Nito will violently swing the large sword he carries.
  • Gravelord Greatsword Dance: After gaining some distance, Nito plunges his sword into the ground and causes it to emerge from beneath his target. Causes poison damage.
  • Miasma: Nito will release an explosion of darkness that deal heavy magic damage and cause posion buildup.
  • Death Grip: Nito's hand glows read and he grabs his enemy, severely damaging them.

Seath the Scaleless
Seath needs the addition of a summery, changes to his powers section and changes to his Stamina and Intelligence.

  • Summery: Though Seath's origin is unknown it is known that he didn't possess the stone scales of his kin and therefore wasn't immortal and because of this he betrayed his kin and told Gwy of the Eternal Dragon's weakness to lighting as well as taught him how to use it. For his effort, Gwyn awarded Seath the title of Duke, a peice of his Lord Soul and a place where Seath would be allowed to preform his experments, a location later named the Duke's Archive. At some point in time Seath discovered the Primordial Crystal which granted him the Immortality he so desperately desired.
  • Powers and Abilities: Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Magic (Stated to be the founder of Sorcery), Immortality (Types 3 and 8) (Seath cannot be killed until the Primordial Crystal is destroyed as it heals off all damage dealt to him instantly), Large Size (Type 1), Regenerationn (High-Low naturally, High with the Crystal), True Flight, Crystal Breath (Seath's Crystal breath curses those caught in it. Cursed characters are petrified and die instantly), Resistance to Magic, Fire, Lightning, Mind, Soul, Toxin Manipulation and Bleeding effects
  • Stamina: Near Limitless with the Primordial Crystal
  • Intelligence: Father of Sorcery and assisted in the fall of the Eternal Dragons as well created, through experimentation, several new creatures including the Pisaca and Moonlight Butterfly. Seath can also be credited with the creation of the Crystal Ember.

Dragonslayer Ornstei

Executioner Smough

Bell Gargoyles
Considering the Gargoyles are made of stone they should probably have resistance to petrification.

Crossbreed Priscilla
Priscilla's issues are what really promted me to start all this. She does not have Blood Manipulation, her scythe is just really sharp and causes heavy bleeding. Edit: Keeweed brought to my attention that she should also have limited Weather Manipulation since she makes a small blizzard before becoming invisible and that her Fairy Dust attack would likely deal Ice damage in addition to magic damage.

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

  • Fairy Dust: Pricilla will hold her hand out infront of her, palm up and blow over it releasing a cloud of magic dust that will damage anyone caught in it. The cloud will linger for several seconds and possibly deals Ice damage.
  • Invisible attacks: Priscilla is keen on abusing her Invisiblity, becomeing invisible as soon as the fight starts and only droping it if she loses concentration.

Gaping Drago

Manus, Father of the Abyss

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

  • Physical Attacks: Manus will swing his massive arm around wildly. He will also use his catalyst as a club.
  • Dark Orb Barrage: Manus casts a fan shaped barrage of orbs similar to the Dark Bead sorcery infront of him.
  • Abyss Rain: Manus casts Dark Orb this time raining from above him in a wide aoe around him
  • Abyss Cage: A large circle of Orbs appear around the arena then fly back towards him damageing everything in it's path.

Knight Artorias

Black Dragon Kalameet

Knight Lautrec of Carim
Comsidering Lautrec is the same kinda Undead is the player he should have the same resistances. He also had Fire and Lightning manip for some reason and that needs to go.

Solaire of Astora

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

  • Lightning Spear: Solaire will pull back his arm and overhand throw a bolt of lightning
  • Great Heal: Solaire will kneel for a second, shake his Sunlight Talisman and heal a large amount of health
EDIT NOTE: Remember to add resistances to Tarkus and Havel's pages.

I think that's about it. Let me know if I need to clarify anything more then what's already been mentioned. It's late and I'm tired.

Most bosses also resist mind manip in some form from rapport. A few resisted hollowing for a long time, but couldn't hold out forever.

I'll look at the rest tomorrow.

General Resistances: I agree, I definitely say the lore stating a dragon's weakness to electricity takes precedence over their stats. I'd also add a resistance to soul manip albeit in a limited way, since you tank literal souls being shoved on you via magic.

...I'd argue Type 1 Immortality for Nito, considering he's still alive and stuff. Well. For a given value of "alive".

Seath's summary seems a bit brick-wall to me but it does improve on what was there.

Iffy on resistance to petrification for gargoyles, but I suppose it's the same as dead people having non-traditional resistance to Death Manip so I can pass on that.

Priscilla's lifehunt scythe is actually stated to be formed from her soul. So... shouldn't it be mentioned she has Soul Manip in the form of literally forming weapons from her soul? I know most bosses souls give weapons but Priscilla's states she made it that way. I'd also argue it is indeed supernatural bleed based on how it's worded but I'll accept it if others disagree, I don't feel strongly on the subject.

Gaping Dragon needs Large Size.

Manus. That corruption should also note that it warped Artorias' mind pretty instantly as well as the entirety of the population of that city. Just saying.

Priscilla's lifehunt is definitely more than just a really sharp scythe but idk exactly what it would be

@Monarch Maybe something like bio manip? Wounds from her scythe don't close as easily?

@Bambu Considering it's specifically mentioned that lightning damages the stone scales and not the dragons I think a scaleless dragon or one without stone scales would likely not possess a weakness to lightning.

Also I'm off to bed for the night.

When it comes to Crossbreed Priscilla some wikis say here power is just ice breath while others say fairy dust, consider she can already control snow I think fairy dust should be changed to ice breath.

When she turns invisible snow blows quickly in for a second and disappears after she turns invisible (unless I remembered that wrong, but I remember making a note of that)

I would say both but I'm leaning towards limited weather manipulation, but it makes ice breath way more likely than fairy dust.

I was more thinking about how ice damage wasn't added until dark souls 3 and almost everything that comes from the painted world in DS 3 is related to ice, so I feel like the magic damage would be a gameplay mechanic due to DS 1's lack of ice damage (or it's ice imbued with magic)

I wouldn't want to discount magic damage altogether, considering how many other characters deal magic damage and have no connection to ice, but I can see adding Ice damage to Fairy Dust.

Scythe born from the soul of Priscilla, the stark white crossbreed trapped inside the Painted World of Ariamis. Even the Gods feared Priscilla's lifehunt ability, and in the hands of a mortal, its power will turn upon its wielder.
@Bambu Is that what you meant by formed from her soul? That just sounds like Ascension to me.

Wouldn't say soul manip for Priscilla

The scythe with that description is made from her soul by the giant blacksmith. Nothing says the one she uses herself is also made from her soul

I will say Priscilla's blade definitely isn't just a super sharp blade, as it is not only mentioned to be an ability, but it also effects the user (which a regular really sharp blade won't do). In dark souls 3 the spell based off the scythe steals life force (you regain health if you hit an opponent), but I'm not sure if that's just how the spell works or if that is a retcon for the original lifehunt.

It makes the user bleed in dark souls 1, and in dark souls 3 it heals you if you hit an opponent (the spell version does at least); neither of those are Regenerationn negation.

All waepons make people bleed, her's just makes you bleed more. And unless everyone thinks we should I'd rather not include DS3 mechanics for DS1 characters. In DS3 the spell is either a modified verson or she couldn't actually use it to it's fullest. I'm leaning on the former.

I mean when you use the lifehunt scythe against someone, the user of the scythe bleeds. Also fair enough on the dark souls 3 stuff.

Yes (note: Priscilla isn't effected by this as the game states "Even the Gods feared Priscilla's lifehunt ability, and in the hands of a mortal, its power will turn upon its wielder." and Priscilla is half immortal due to her dragon side)

It also mentions that the bleed is its power turning on the user due to being mortal.

I've played with the lifehunt scythe. You gain self bleed also the quote I posted right above you last comment talks about it.

Alright, so aside from Bambu, no one else has really said anything about most of the revision. Specifically adding stat resistances, Gwyn losing a second key and dragons not really being weak to lightning.

My interperitation on the scales lore is it's more in line with Type 8 immortality and lightning is just really good at removing them makeing dragons suseptible to death.

I disagree with the lightning thing, IIRC stat wise pretty much anything dragon-like (like those Serpent Men in Archdragon Peak, just as an example) gets pretty ****** over by lightning.

Actually, most of them aren't that bad. Kalameet has the highest lightning defence of the bunch, even higher then the Blue Drakes which actually use lightning as an attack.

  • Quelaag - 205
  • Seath - 207
  • Gaping Drago - 87
  • Kalameet - 725
  • Priscilla - 195
  • Hellkite Drago - 99
  • Blue Drake - 707
  • Undead Drago - 73/82
  • Serpent Soldier - 154/198
  • Hydra - 155/235

Monarch, 's true but I think that's more for gameplay reasons than anything

The dragons breed do consistently have much lower defenses than any other race (except Kalameet for whatever reason but he seems to just be special).

Kalameet's a special little boy

Both Seath and Pricillia have compairable L.defence to Quelaag though. I guess we could do something along the lines of defences below a certian number don't count for resistance?

Seath was special, I agree it likely has something to do with the lack of stone scales but others still lack it (meaning the lack of stone scales might be just one part of their differences). IIRC the running theory was that Pricillia was some hybrid child of the gods and Seath himself (degenerates).

So should Seath, Pricillia and Kalameet receive L.resistance considering all three are an execption to the rule in one way or another? Or is L.defence on dragons gameplay mechanics? No ones really objected to anything else, so would it be ok to start editing profiles soon?

I'd be cool with those three getting it, since game mechanics in this case are backed up by lore. Gaping Dragon, et al. should receieve a weakness to lightning.
