Which has the better fandom. Pokemon or digimon

Pokemon without a shadow of a doubt. Outside of this wiki, I've had few good experiences with Digimon fans. Lots of elitist who worship the sub and curse everything else, or people who don't even remotely understand Digimon lore but act like they're experts on it (like the admins of Wikimon...).

I find it funny how I'm more Pokemon than Digimon and I say Pokemon's worse, while you're more Digimon than Pokemon but you say Digimon's worse lol.

And that's still better than genwunners

Oh my sweet summer child, Gunwunners is strong in Digimon too. There are people who worship the metaphorical ground Digimon Adventure hypothetically walked on and think everything else is absolute shit for one reason or another. Even though technially, "Gen 1" Digimon would probably be C'mon, Digimon, but most Digimon fans I've seen don't know anything outside of the anime.

Speaking of which, Digimon has easily one of the most disconnected fanbases I've ever seen. There is a good portion of the fandom that legitimately thinks the series has been dead for over 10 years because they never bother to look into it.

Pokémon is toxic sometimes, I still remember when some guys tricked me and stealed my shinies...

Not sure about Digimon but Pokemon is a bit crazy at times due to is split fanbase.

Since Digimon tends to try new things with every iteration, several fans to (unfairly) label each incarnation with a single gimmick. Tamers was just trying to sell toys, so it was shit. Frontier was a "Power Rangers rip-off", so it was shit. Data Squad was just a power fantasy, so it was shit. Xros Wars was...just kind of weird, so it was shit, etc, etc. Likewise, the same goes with each goggle head. People assign one personality trait and treat them like they're one-note because of it.

  • Taichi is just your generic cool kid.
  • Davis is just your generic idiot kid.
  • Takato is just your generic wimp kid.
  • Takaya is just Taichi.
  • Marcus is just Taichi who punches things.
  • Taiki is just a mary sue.
etc, etc.

The side of the fanbase that annoys me the most is the people who worship the sub. Not because they prefer it or like it over it (to each there own, live and let live, etc), but because they're always so in-your-face about, and play the victim whenever you call them annoying. Joshua Seth is a fantastic Taichi and the unique voices given to Gabumon, Tentomon and Agumon are freaking iconic. I like the sub too, I really do, but calling the dub performers awful is just insulting.

And like I said before, there's a lot of elitism. If you like the dub, you're just an Dubtard, if you like the sub, you're a weeb, if you like Adventure, you're a manchild, if you don't like Adventure, then you're not respecting the franchises roots (which again, C'Mon Digimon and V-TAMER are older). There's no winning with some of these people.

tl;dr, the fanbase is split in like 8 sides, then those sides are split over toxic debates over sub and dubs. Just about the only thing the fanbase can agree on is the "everything is canon" thing.

As incredible as it sounds, I've only one had bad experience with Pokémon FANDOM, which was a discussion on: Frontier Brain vs Elite Four where several thoughts have turned into offenses

It's so annoying when people talk trash about Frontier just because they turned into the digimon and didn't have partners. Seriously, there's more to it than that.

I remember thinking Frontier was awesome as a kid. I mean, who didn't want to be a digimon? It was a bit iffy when I went to rewatch it a few years but still fun.

Strange, I also did not understand why people did not like Digimon Frontier because of that, it was innovative

I didn't know Digimon had a sense of elitism between themselves up until today. I always thought the elitism was over Pokemon, not over dub/sub (though I shouldn't be surprised) or Story/World.

Having a bigger base means you're going to have many bad people by virtue of casting a larger net.

Having a smaller fanbase means some people will get defensive of what they have, especially if there's a parallel to it.

It's dumb honestly. The Digimon fanbase also likes to hype info and Digimon when they aren't really that impressive. Gaiamon (not the Appmon) is one of them. Back in the day of Digimon World 3 the idea of Gaiamon seemed impressive....nowadays....after Digimon heavily expanded the lore of the series......Gaiamon is not impressive in the slightest. It's nothing more than a much stronger than normal Mega level.

Only mons that gets really hyped by fans that is actually worth hyping up tbh are Alphamon, Lucemon and Zeed.

The digimon fanbase is also really entitled, even though they even said their making digimon survive to try a new thing and to give us something while the next story game is out, all i saw a lot of comments saying how it's just a lazy downgrade because it's 2D with some 3D,instead of full 3D, and even gone as far as claim they won't buy it and hope it fails over the strategy grid style gameplay it's going to have, ironic considering the franchise has had like 3-4 other different types of gameplay that it's own fandom hates anything that isn't turn base rpg or traditional raising them from story/world.

Digimon seems like a cool franchise I stopped watching it after the second story arc with the goggles kid. Should I get back into it?

I say yes. Digimon is still a very fun franchise to get into. If you have a PS4 the likes of Cyber Sleuth, Hacker's Memory and Next 0rder are available. And if you have a Switch, Survive will be released next year (I can't wait)

I'd pay me some microtransactions and set up some chain-link fenses for that!

Jokes aside, relating to the main topic, quick reminder that anything unique and accessible is going to have weirdos gathered around it, especially if it gets really popular really quickly -- Undertale, Rick and Morty, et cetera -- so you curious fellows wondering if you'd like to check out Digimon shouldn't worry if even the big fans say the fanbase is bad. Pretty much anything not very obscure will have those types.

Incidentally, would you good experts kindly recommend some good entry points for the curious folks? I'm not experienced, myself, but I may try that Cyber Sleuth RPG if I can get back into the game genre.

For good starting points, cyber sleuth would be the best for the turn base ones, and next order for the raising them and letting AI fight ones and their some of the recent entries. It helps most of the games are really self contained stories except for cyber sleuth who had a second game that acts like a 1.5 more or less and even then has it's own plot, i kinda wanna add dawn/dusk and digimon world ds are all also really great and fun games with good story and probably one of the largest selection of obtainable digimons, but their all ds games so unless you emulate them then it's gonna be hard to find.

I don't really know how both fanbases truly are in the english community, but at least the spanish Digimon comunity is one of the better ones that I have seen in general.

For example right now they are asking people to fill out a survey from Bandai were they ask: If you could create a new game from what franchise and genre would it be?, so we could possibly get a new Digimon Fighting-game, under the hashtag #OurDigimonGame in Twitter.

My only real contact with the pokemon fanbase (apart from here) has been through the poketuber videos, which I honestly really enjoy.

The simple fact that the Pokémon fanbase still hasn't found proof for 2-A Arceus means that it's still not big enough ovo
Master Hand albergates power to obliterate infinite universes, so... wait, Arceus got rekt by him...

Fun Fact

Bandai used a Fan-made figure of Shoutmon X4K in the new artbook, since they don't have the rights of use that figure the Japanese fanbase now is attacking Bandai for that thing and even more because Bandai don't talked about anything of that.

It's been three weeks since Digimon's twitter is not updated, which was when a fan criticized on twitter about the unauthorized use of a fan-made image.

Yes, this is Digimon Fandom.

Did they credit the fan?
No. And when fans asked Bandai about this (Three Weeks ago), Bandai don't said nothing. Even when they asked in Digimon Twitter.

A lot of japanese Digimon fans in Japan have a lot of power over the fandom. There was a time when even Habu said to one of these big fans "please, stop talking about this".
