The Terrarian VS The Noita (The Noita wins; unfair advantage)

I'm surprised this hasn't been done before but I love this idea! It's a shame it probably won't have much popularity here. I like this matchup especially because I think these games are really compatible with each other. Enemies could totally be transferred from one game to the other and they'd mostly fit right in.

The Terrarian

vs.

The Noita

Terrarian will be in their final key, and The Noita will be in their first key since key #2 would surely be cheating. Both get 1 year of preparation (The Noita's "High 3-A with preparation" isn't really applicable to combat so it can be ignored.)

Looks like Terrarian curbstomps Noita here with their arsenal. Restricting to Noita to base limits them pretty significantly here. Noita's only recourse is to bruteforce Terrarian with AP, if they even can interact at this key.

Also the mention of 3-A for Noita's profile isn't a flat rating, it's part of an indicator of AP range; "High 5-A to High 3-A with preparation"

Oh I see, there is an interesting issue here. Does The Noita's first key, called "Base" ONLY include things from the "Base" tab under the Powers and Abilities section? Or does it include everything except that which is listed under the "34 Orb Win" tab under the powers and abilities section? There is a mismatch between the names of the Keys and the names of the subsections under Powers and Abilities. I think the most natural way to interpret this is that The Noita's base key includes every tab in the Powers and Abilities section except "34 Orb Win".

The High 3-A thing is explained here in this part of the wiki page:

Brown Dwarf level to High Universe level with preparation (Can create a miniature sun several meters in radius and a black hole of similar size. By having both collide, the resulting Supernova is powerful enough to affect all infinite parallel worlds, and even newly created worlds from New Game+).

To me, this is implying that The Noita is only High 3-A due to the supernova. The phrasing of "Brown Dwarf level to High Universe level" imo doesn't necessarily imply a continuum of attack potency in that range. Maybe that's the preferred nomenclature of this wiki, but I don't believe the author of The Noita's page intended for it to be interpreted in that way. Though, I could be wrong.

Nah, you really can get the game to straight up say you're hitting infinitely hard, and the game scales damage to the environment with your wand's damage (at least to the point the engine can handle) so it ended up applicable to AP. Can even "outdamage" that supernova with some wacky setups.

A year of prep is kind of an insanely long time. The only real difference between "base" and 34 orb is that 34 orb has an item that's a reference to NetHack that makes you well and truly invincible to everything. You can still end up invincible to almost everything through the regular perks and stainless armor stacking and whatnot. Speaking of perks, Noita gets infinite range infinite potency passive mindhax via enough stacking of More Love, so I guess that just kinda happens and there's no recourse for it.

The Noita is a character that's pretty poorly suited to being used on vbw because of the diversity of abilities brought on by wand construction mechanics and that just saying "Give it max power" makes something totally absurd. I'd recommend using the bosses instead, they tend to still have neat abilities while being restrained enough to reasonably have a match.

This reasoning makes sense as to why The Noita has an unfair advantage in this fight lol, ty.

I picked a year just because I wanted the time to be "some long amount of time"

The reasons you mention here are exactly why I think The Noita is a good fit for this wiki. Surely it's way more interesting to try and logic out a video game character build that can defeat an opponent than it is to compare the strength of two static shounen characters?

In any case, if this matchup is too one-sided or whatever and it that makes it ineligible for discussion I'm happy to leave it at this.

I think it's just kinda more trouble than it's worth unless you're very familiar with both parties. The profile could be improved to clarify what certain perks actually do better, but due to how Noita is there's always going to be the issue of OP kinda needing to babysit the character and give them a really exact setup. It can be interesting to do, but most people probably aren't interested, and I do personally feel the fact I could build a version of the character to obtain whichever outcome I want for the match puts it in a weird spot with regard to things like this.

OP giving the character an exact setup would defeat any fun out of it, for sure. The whole point would be leaving it up to a community to devise something. It is true that The Noita is so busted that it can probably beat almost anyone with a clever enough setup. But like... that is exactly what would make it interesting to think about.

I guess I just can't understand not being interested in doing this, while at the same time being interested in the majority of the other activity on this site. To me, trying to theorize a setup for a character with a ton of different tools at their disposal to defeat some opponent is an objectively funner pursuit in every way

Noita peaks so high that it's usually just not that hard to figure out. It's just 11 billion stacks of more love and stainless armor with some recursive damage setup or some type of dura neg the enemy doesn't resist. What could be more interesting would be seeing what the least crazy setup that wins over x character could be, but that's not a traditional vs thread so it'd turn people off. I like that idea though.

Perhaps a topic for a future 'Fun and Games' thread
