I am not familiar with Gundam, but it is always sad when somebody who has been able to make many other people happy through his or her work passes away.

This is also sad news; while I haven't seen a Gundam show in ages; I really liked both Gundam Wing and Gundam G as a kid. Gundam is a super classic sci-fi Anime series and this sounds like a huge loss to those found of the genre. May he rest in piece, in a wonderful but undisclosed afterlife somewhere.
