To be honest, I just really dislike how a huge chunk of their characters (Marth, Roy, Ike, Lucina, and Chrom) have almost the same moves.

Let's ignore that there are also people fans of this character and enjoy him. Good lord people...
Did you expect anything less from the extremely entitled Smash Community?

Roy, Lucina and Chrom are clones though so it's kind of a given. Let's remember echoes are not really used to take up slots, but rather leftover data polished up to get an extra fighter and Roy was brought back because he had his fans as well.

I guess Ike can be considered different enough from Marth given their playstyle is essentially speedy combos vs slow and powerful and was before Smash started really taking advantage of the series elements and mechanics to make up a fighter's moveset. Which is weird given they did do it for Robin but nor really for Corrin.

Nobody wanted Byleth though and they don't even bring anything unique to Smash. No cool time mechanics like Geras in MK11, or anything like that. People shit on Corrin, but at least Corrin brought some new stuff to the table.

And honestly Sakurai basically just ***** on Street Fighter 2 in the direct and just says that his game is better. I hope he realizes that Street Fighter 2 is way more important than Smash has ever been.

Geese, ANOTHER Fire Emblem character? Like, if this was Sakurai's choice then I can't really go against the creator's decisions but wouldn't he know that there's already an overinflation of swordsmen?

A.) At least Byleth's not a full swordsman

B.) No Soma Cruz outfit, but I'm still satisfied. Totally getting Fighter Pass for Ancient Link.

Oh look, 6 more characters. And you don't have a new Fire Emblem game to worry about a character coming from. So rejoice.
Wait till Sakurai adds another FE character to smash before the release of a new FE game to promote said game OvO.

That is not at all what he said. He was making lite of Smash being claimed as the best selling fighting game of all time, he argued against that fact and included all of SF2's ports, and adressing the argument of "Smash isn't a fighting game" basically saying he doesn't care about that.

I won't act like I'm happy about Byleth (I mean I love FE but I still don't have a Switch so I don't have any attachment to them), but let's not fulfill the stereotype people have on Smash fans. Sure, FE has more reps than the original 8 franchises minus Mario and Pokémon. But Sakurai likes it and is excited. S/he's a unique character and that n-air is giving me Palutena ptsd.
