Bowser melting that ice castle is probably the strongest feat in this movie imo, dunno about that bullet bill exploding which pulled the mushroom kingdom's dimension all the way to Brooklyn if it's even calculable

Considering that the explosion was supposed to cover the entire kingdom. It couldn't have gone too far I doubt the warp pipe is that fastHow good that feat is depends on how far he was from the epicenter.
Where does it say that they are alternate universes?Aw man.
Was hoping for 2-something because of the universes line
I think he's referring to what Peach saidWhere does it say that they are alternate universes?
Maybe in the next movie but for now I don't think the warp pipe is gonna give us anything in terms of universal feats. If it's a gateway between universes it could POSSIBLY give us high speed feats but I doubt it.I think he's referring to what Peach said
I think she said something about there being hundreds of universes out there.Where does it say that they are alternate universes?
The full line is "There's a huge universe out there."I think she said something about there being hundreds of universes out there.
Finally got around to watching it, good shit. Certainly nothing groundbreaking but the critics made the plot sound way worse than it was, it was serviceable enough and good fun overall.
7/10, definitely rewatching it later.
Pros:
Critiques:
- Visually this movie is ******* stellar, everyone looks great. They even managed to make the Koopa Troop look like intimidating villains in some shots lol
- Fairly decent action scenes, especially Mario's fight with DK and the final battle with Bowser
- Aside from the Mario Bros. being from Brooklyn (and another world altogether lol) the movie is a very faithful adaptation of the games' setting (
so a step above the shitty 1993 movie).- Bowser was good, DK was peak, and surprisingly Peach was pretty alright tbh
- The film's take on the Mario Bros. was pretty alright (
though Mario's character arc being self-worth issues concerning his father was a bit of a random direction for the character)- Lumalee kinda based
- To get the obvious out of the way, Chris Pratt's Mario is nothing like the canon character. Not exactly "bad" per se, but it felt like watching a MCU superhero cosplaying as Mario
- Luigi got sidelined for like 90% of the film. Didn't feel like Mario "Bros." until the end there.
- Bowser being entirely motivated by simping is kinda lame
- The random pop culture music was ill-fitting. Using tracks from the actual games would've made the film 10x better.
Anyway, powerscaling crap:
- Bowser's fire breath collapses an ice tower. Looks Tier 8-ish, just needs a calc
- Mario & Luigi tank crashing through a large wall at the start of the movie looked decently high into 9-B, if not low end 9-A
- Mario shatters brick blocks multiple times throughout the movie (low end 9-B)
- Bowser's fire breath was hot enough to instantly incinerate a random Koopa's flesh
- DK casually smashes a couple of barrels
- Cat Mario destroys a metal bridge
- A random Koopa tanks an explosion that destroys a car
- Mario and Donkey Kong tank a large explosion that destroys a large section of Rainbow Road's track. Looks Tier 8 but Rainbow Road seems to be made of glass
- DK casually deflected a cannonball
- Bowser's army possessed a giant Bullet Bill that supposedly could've destroyed the Mushroom Kingdom
- Yeah, no one scales to this. Mario only withstood the explosion's shockwaves.
- Also, considering the Bullet Bill got BFR'd to Brooklyn and didn't wipe out the city I doubt it's Tier 6.
Best feats are the Rainbow Road explosion and Bowser collapsing that ice tower.
Oh btw Bowser is portrayed as being noticeably superior to everyone else in the film, not to the point that they couldn't downscale from him but as an example during the final battle he pretty easily overpowers DK
Honestly not so sure about everyone else should even downscale from Bowser at all considering how easily he stomped everyone, and not to mention he almost killed DKJust got out of the theater. Amazing movie!! I’d honestly give it an 8/10. Of course there’s definitely some criticism I have on my part on how the movie could be better but overall amazing!! Also saw it in 4DX meaning I felt everything that was happening in the movie, which made enhanced the movie experience by a lot.
But yeah, seems like everyones kinda in the Tier 8 range via downscaling from Bowser. Mario Kart explosion is definitely noteworthy and of course Bowser casually burning down the ice palace. Unfortunately, don’t think the giant bullet bill can be scaled to anyone although Bowser could have access to it on his profile. It’s tier 6 at least I think. Also almost everyone in the movie has acrobatics, vehicular mastery, and access to the power ups.
Yeah that’s a completely fair point, and the Mario Bros. needed the power star to even stand a chance. I do think the MK blue shell explosion is our best chance at tier 8 results with anyone other than Bowser. Also don’t think the main cast ever got hit with his fire either, which is unfortunate cause that could possibly guarantee them tier 8 durability. Mario Bros with power star massively upscale to Bowser thoHonestly not so sure about everyone else should even downscale from Bowser at all considering how easily he stomped everyone, and not to mention he almost killed DK
While it's not tanking it, Luigi using a manhole cover as a shield could push against Bowser's fire breath for a while, (He was struggling and slowly being pushed back, but he was matching it for the most part) that's probably worth somethingYeah that’s a completely fair point, and the Mario Bros. needed the power star to even stand a chance. Funny to say it's a tier 8 manholeWhile it's not tanking it, Luigi using a manhole cover as a shield could push against Bowser's fire breath for a while, (He was struggling and slowly being pushed back, but he was matching it for the most part) that's probably worth something
I mean its gotta be as well since it has some crazy temp resistance considering bowsers fire breath is kinda insaneFunny to say it's a tier 8 manhole
This guy made a pretty good point about the after credits scene ( though it's a very brief explanation/joke )
Obviously this has minor spoilers
Does he know?Judging from that thumbnail, you can tell he hated it lol
I'm just more interested to what other companies can do when making video game movies these days, I haven't seen the two Sonic movies, but I did hear they're pretty good. Mortal Kombat was okay, and this one was really good.Hope this means we get movies of other Nintendo IPs.
While Illumination was brought up, I do think that DreamWorks is a better fit for some of the IPs like The Legend of Zelda and Metroid (heck, Retro Studios hired a former employee as the artist). Apparently a Mario sequel's in very early development now, and I really want an animated Punch-Out spin-off with perhaps Mike Tyson as a guest star (and more boxers from the arcade/SNES titles besides NES/Wii - I could see Pizza Pasta as a owner of that pizzeria the Mario Bros. regularly visits)Hope this means we get movies of other Nintendo IPs.
I’d be down to see more Nintendo properties on the big screen.
Give us a Star Fox movie and the Critics might a field day with that one
I mean, wasn't Thanos' motivation for getting the stones in the comics because he wanted to date Death?Just got back from the theaters after watching the movie, and it was an absolute BANGER. Probably a solid 8/10 for me. Only real gripe with the movie is that Bowser isn't as intimidating as I think he should've been, and has a really naive and dumb motivation for such a monster.
Never said I really liked Thanos' motivations; I also think it's a problem there as well.I mean, wasn't Thanos' motivation for getting the stones in the comics because he wanted to date Death?
Well it was kinda expected in a way when you've played the very first Mario game and always wondered what Bowser even wanted with Peach in the first placeOnly real gripe with the movie is that Bowser isn't as intimidating as I think he should've been, and has a really naive and dumb motivation for such a monster.
