I can't find a good thing for it, but there's a scene in the Season 2 Premiere when he shows Twilight something from the past where he turns himself entirely intangible. He also can change his form to literally anything, from a balloon to a painting to a pile of apples and more, so he doesn't really need a physical form to exist.
Also it's entirely possibly Discord did the thing to dodge the laser just to look cool. I mean, his face shows no sign of worry, he's not even amused at Tirek's futile attack.

Also Talking about the scene I listed before ... if we are based on the expression of Discord we realize that he is not exactly happy as it always shows, but he has a serious expression that is not at all friendly
And knowing him would have been cool to receive the attack instead of dodging it!

Discord having reality warping can trigger multiple abilities like transmutation, creation, shapeshifting, etc. so it wouldn't be strange for him to have something simple like intangibility.

1. The Raimbow Beam turn him into stone Twice (In the past and the present)
2. Can't scape from "the Stone State" with the Intangibility Power.

The Rainbow beam is quite clearly a form of sealing and not a direct attack on him. Of course he wouldn't be able to break out, it's not like he was only encased in stone, a magical lock was placed on it that only withered when the Elements of Harmony switched to new owners.

Edit: There is also the possibility that Discord can only be Intangible for some seconds, and possibly he didn't use it on actual fights because of the time limit.

I think the time limit thing is too much speculation. We should totally add Non-Corporeal to his profile though.
