I have been in several versus threads, and not once I have seen people claim that if something is not on a cutscene then the character would never use it even if it's a common ability

For example Sonic has never used the spindash in a cutscene, therefore Sonic would never use the spindash because of that? See how it is a dumb concept?

He uses spin dash all the time in cutscenes. He used it in the metal cutscene for generations, he used it in lost world, and he used it sonic unleashed if I remember correctly.

Wisp and Sonic’s other hax aren’t common abilities. The wisp are common abilities in color but the whole point of that game was to use wisp. In games like forces it is entirely up to the player whether sonic should use wisp or not. And in the small cutscenes we have sonic is always either fist fighting people or trying to fist fight people.

As I said earlier, I perfectly see where you are coming from, and realistically it makes perfect sense for sonic to use hax, but I’ve seen many matches end with characters just not using their abilities because they don’t use them in cutscenes and thus were counted as being out of character.

I guess I’ll vote Sonic for now, but I still am going to make a thread on game characters (not really over sonic, just game characters in general because this topic is now very on my mind, and its going to be bugging me if I don’t make a proper discussion on it).

I forgot about the Lost World thing but that's the only time the actual spin dash is used

This is wrong, Sonic doesn't spindash in those, he just spins, there's a difference

Anyways if people are going to nitpick my points the homing attack is another one, he hasn't used that in many cutscenes, neither he has the light speed dash or attack, I still feel like you are taking shit out of context because no thread I have ever been only cutscenes can be used

The Light Speed Dash has a mandatory in game event and many statements of being used. You don’t absolutely need cutscenes, repeated statements of doing something also qualify for a character to use it. When it comes to the wisp Sonic has those statements and cutscenes for colors but in the future games it is 100% optional for sonic to go for wisp, and large chunks of his other abilities are barely ever touched on and usually have story reasons as to why he used them when he did.

You are straight up wrong tho, you need to be more clear, Wisps are important in the plot of Runners, TSR and Forces, the same applies about all the other abilities like Chaos Control which Sonic uses during the Shadow fight in SA2 and 06, or time break is used in the plot

I see now that you are overcomplicating stuff with your lack of knowelege on Sonic, all the abilities argued here are plot relevant or required at least once to be used to beat the game, they aren't some optional RPG spell

They are plot relevant, but not in the way that would make them in character to use. Sonic uses Chaos control, but that was either with Shadow or when he literally had zero other options and was about to explode.

The wisp aren’t mandatory in forces, which is what I meant for a character to use them in character. He has the option to use them only if the player decides, exactly like a rpg spell. He isn’t forced or stated to use them, or it isn’t the main plot like in colors.

And nobody is arguing that Sonic would start with it or spam it, only that he would use it if he needed, something you concede on in that last part

They literally are, Sonic needs them for the boost, something he uses in a cutscene, again an argument from ignorance, and you ignored my other two examples and half of my points

Either you make your shitty thread so that people can correct you since you don't want to listen to anyone in this thread, or you stop making appeals to authority and actualy argue on what you believe instead of contradicting yourself, because I don't know what the **** you want

chill bro

Don't assume what I am feeling over a computer scream, this is frustating becuase I don't even know what the standards are for this person, nor can I understand all this misconceptions about the series

My personal standards are different than what I believe the site standards are. Which is a big part of the issue here. I get why you would say it is a appeal to authority, but what the site standards are is something that I take very seriously (though I probably shouldn’t and that could just be my ocd doing that).

I’m currently voting sonic, I just want to make the thread about game characters for more personal reasons and I think it could apply to this thread, which is why I’m mentioning it. If it would be better if everyone drops the conversation and I make the thread for entirely separate, personal, reasons we’ll probably do that.

I’m sorry for any inconvenience.

No problem, I got a little frustated but it isn't your fault, I think the idea of making a thread it's not a bad one because it can take care of this confusion, btw link the thread here after finishing it, I would like to comment on it

And yeah, you shouldn't take it too seriously, this wikia isn't perfect
