Sonic General Discussion Zone Act 1: New Frontiers

Speaking of which, would you mind posting the scaling chain you have in mind? I'm feeling rather lazy to think up one on my own
It's in the powerscaling blog. You can just keep going after infinite is mentioned and just apply the multipliers yourself.

Well guys it's December and Sonic 3 is 20 days away so I figured todays as good a day as any to ask a question. Do you think Sonic 3 will beat Mufasa at the box office or will the nostalgia backing the lion king franchise be too much?

For me I'm obviously rooting for Sonic but I have my doubts.

Top hat on?

I think it will, the turnout for these live action fairs has been dipping I believe and it's a sequel, one that counterdicts old lore. ~~I also just want it to crash and burn for my own satisfaction~~

Mufasa has the Disney buff and a huge nostalgia buff backing it

Sonic 3 has its own nostalgia buff, admittedly less than the one for Mufasa. But it's also got marketing that is clearly reaching the audience, and hype that's coming off of the Year of Shadow and the insane performance of Shadow Generations

I wouldn't be particularly surprised if Sonic 3 beat Mufasa at the box office

I've hardly even seen trailers for Mufasa tbh

Hasn't Disney been doing real bad recently, too?
There's the Disney front the mcu front and the star wars front. One front is sleeping hoping to recover from the sequel trilogy era where they at best over extended themselves to the brink (audience retention wise) the Disney front proper is all over the place (a TV show turned movie for Moana 2? Not looking good...) unironically I'd say the MCU front is doing the best and pretty much everyone agrees it's been super inconsistent sense endgame

Ya just look up captain America 4 to see current disney in a nutshell. It's got a 500 million dollar budget already but it got atrocious test screenings so they're reworking the entire film.

However Moana 2 is doing alright and the Deadpool + Wolverine movie killed it at the box office but now days they seem like dimonds in the rough.

Yeah. Deadpool & Wolverine was killer, honestly. Probably because it isn't as squeaky clean as other MCU movies if you get me.

Well here are the things I thought of for Sonic vs Mufasa.

Sonic 3 advantages

+ Hype and marketing: This will probably change in the following days but there is barely any marketing for Mufasa while there's plenty for Sonic. Additionally this movie has generated more online buzz than mufasa with the Sonic 3 trailer receiving more views than the Mufasa trailer despite Sonics first trailer coming out a month after Mufasas. Shadow generations is also great marketing as well especially with the upcoming dlc.

+ Underdog factor: Sonic has always been a bit of a niche brand and people generally root for underdogs.

+ Reputation: Disney has been in the gutter for a bit and some people have lost faith in disney. Meanwhile Paramount has generated good faith with Sonic fans by changing his design in movie one.

+ Appeals more to kids: Most kids would probably prefer to see Sonic over what looks like a national geographic documentary.

+ Lower bar to clear: Disney puts more money into their movies than any of the Sonic movies do which means their movies need to make more money to break even.

+ Star power: Keanu Reeves and Jim Carrey are big draws especially since this is likely to be Jim's final film.

Mufasa advantages

+++ Comes from a massive franchise: The first live action lion king movie raked in over a billion dollars and the original Lion King is also one of the most successful movies of all time.

+ Better known to casuals: Nearly everyone's seen Lion King so more people from the general audience are likely to watch Mufasa.

+ Nostalgia: While Sonic has some nostalgia going for it I think Mufasa clears this category.

+ Shadow's debut on the big screen

+ The Year of Shadow

TLDR Shadow carry

I got a question for you all. Do you guys think Hyper Sonic at least make another appearance in a future game? Do you think Sonic Team's reluctance is justified?

I seriously doubt it, ea it's expected idk about justified but it's not inconsistent with how other Japanese company's react

Most I could really think of Hyper Sonic getting added into with the least resistance is as a Limited character in Sonic Speed Simulator.

Maybe, and no respectively.
No for their reluctance or no for seeing it again?

Fair, they're a bit dodgy on that.

Honestly, I feel like they could add it into a game as a form that can be unlocked as extra content perhaps. If they wanna give it story relevancy without shattering the powerscaling (even if they kinda already did that with Super Sonic 2), they could just make it available for the one-time so at least their existence is acknowledged.

Hey I just had a problematic thought for Sonic scaling.

If imbolziing someone with KE is just lifting strength vs lifting strength... shouldn't moving someone around in the air and pushing them back also be lifting strength vs lifting stregth?

As long as the character being pushed airborne has leverage that scales to thier lifting strenght.

Where are you going with this?

Simply that I saw omega say bosses should be comparable to super sonic even if they can't damage him if they can push him back,

And no, even being held up from the ground it is lifting strength that is used to determine if you can break a telekinetic grasp and on many occasionally character have been given a lifting strength for restraining a character in the air in such a way.
