He didn't say absorb, he said store. Ozma likely used his magic to slowly store it in there. Rather than the cane doing anything.

From what I've seen, I think it's mostly due to her character post-Volume 3. Don't know exact specifics though, aside from EruptionFang.

A lot of people critique Yang (and Team RWBY in general) for being hypocritical in Vol 7 by keeping secrets from Ironwood when they were infuriated with Ozpin for do the same a couple Volumes prior. Blake and Yang were partially responsible for Ironwood losing faith in Team RWBY by conspiring with Robyn.

Okay does anyone else get the feeling that we’re going to see Blake’s semblance evolve? Like where we last left off with her, she was conflicted on helping Penny, saving Weiss or getting revenge against Neo. I’m thinking that her semblance will evolve and let her do all three, basically making clones similar to Sun’s in that they’re able to do their own thing.

No, but I am ready for this detour that hopefully does wonders for world-building. Hopefully, they'll expand and develop abilities beyond semblances. Aura expansion would be great.
Blake's thing could be interesting but might come off as an asspull without a deeper in lore explanation. AND if their gonna lose anyway it would seem pointless in that moment.
