Recently I made a calc that involves exploiting a monster's weakness to extreme temperatures, but someone on another forum brought up concerns about the legitimacy of a character statement I used. Basically, it was stated that even specially developed fusion bombs wouldn't be effective against the creature.
What makes this statement tricky is that it was made before the monster's weakness to extreme temperatures was discovered and the monster is unfortunately never actually hit by these missiles. However, later in the episode the military agrees to use special energy weapons instead of the bombs they originally planned to use, and there's also a time lapse in the middle.
Could the statement have been reliable after all, or is it still too speculative?
EDIT: Would the fact that the atomic breath was able to fry monsters unaffected by military missile assaults in later episodes make any difference? The military did incorporate laser weapons and reverse-engineered alien tech from earlier episodes into their weaponry and tech in later episodes, and explosions after this episode do seem bigger than explosions from earlier episodes. It wouldn't be a stretch at all to believe the military would continue using these weapons.
