This has been in my mind for a while.

In the Pokémon world, the unit of "miles per hours" actually represents a fraction of the speed of light. Diglett is stated to travel at 60 mph, which is clarified by Gary to be equivalent to 299,792,458 meters (the speed of light), which means 60mph = 300000km/s in the Pokémon verse.

This'd make Pidgeot's Mach 2 feat a MFTL feat, since Mach 2 is thousands of mph, and would upgrade everyone.

I think the writers were having fun with the implied innuendos of "pull their heads in at the speed of light"
