Pokemon Discussion Thread - Red & Blue arc

0093: Haunter: It likes to lurk in the dark and tap shoulders with a gaseous hand. Its touch causes endless shuddering.

Haunter's previous entries mentioned how it had to lick someone for them to shake until they died, but this says just a touch (Presumably from its gaseous hand.) will cause endless shuddering, presumably until death.

0187: Hoppip: This Pokémon is blown across vast distances by the wind. It is unclear where the Hoppip of Paldea originally came from.
0188: Skiploom: Skiploom enthusiasts can apparently tell where a Skiploom was born by the scent drifting from the flower on the Pokémon’s head.

???

0189: Jumpluff: Jumpluff travels on seasonal winds. Once its cotton spores run out, its journey ends, as does its life.

Well that's new info. Dark, too. New weakness for Jumpluff.

Well that's new info. Dark, too. New weakness for Jumpluff.
Why? This isn't a weakness. Everyone dies one day boo hoo, we don't write that down as weakness for characters who got no immortality

0216: Teddiursa: This Pokémon discreetly follows Combee to find their hive. It scoops up big dollops of honey in its palms to eat.
Sort of new info.
0217: Ursaring: It usually wears a hardened expression, but when it’s licking up honey—which it loves—the joy it feels will cause it to break into a wide grin.
Also new info. Kinda cute.

0231: Phanpy: This Pokémon lives and nests on a riverbank. After playing in the mud, it won’t be able to settle down unless it washes its body.
Does being covered in mud make Phanpy more energetic?
0232: Donphan: Donphan is covered in tough hide, so even being hit by a car won’t faze this Pokémon. However, it is extremely susceptible to rain.
Canon evidence of vulnerability to water.

0234: Stantler: This Pokémon apparently used to live in much harsher environments, and thus it once had stronger psychic powers than it does now.
Stantler in PL:A have stronger psychic powers than modern day Stantler?

0422: Shellos: It used to have a shell on its back long ago. This species is closely related to Pokémon like Shellder.
0423: Gastrodon: Its whole body is sticky with mucus. In the past, this form of Gastrodon was by far the more numerous one.

Neat.

Just going through the Pokedex entries, checking for any that look interesting & new.

If Jumpluff runs out of cotton spores, its life ends.
Remove the cotton from its head, it dies.
I'd call that a weakness.

0574: Gothita: This Pokémon is normally very innocent. When it is staring at something invisible, it is unblinking and utterly silent.
0575: Gothorita: This Pokémon will hypnotize children to put them to sleep before carrying them away. Be wary of nights when the starlight is bright.
0576: Gothitelle: Gothitelle unleashes psychic energy and shows opponents dreams of the universe’s end. These dreams are apparently ethereal and beautiful.

Sort of new info. I wonder if Gothitelle's Pokedex entry means its precognition knows how the universe will end. But then again, dreams plural implies showing multiple kinds of ending, which wouldn't make sense if its showing them the universe's end unless it's a multiple choice future or Gothitelle somehow sees the ends of multiple universes, not just its own.

0585: Deerling: Deerling have different scents depending on the season. In early spring, these Pokémon give off a delicate, sweet, and calming scent.
0586: Sawsbuck: It seems that a Sawsbuck with many flowers on its antlers will grow at a slightly slower pace because the flowers absorb the Pokémon’s nutrients.

Clarifies the scent of Deerling that other Pokedex entries mention.

0590: Foongus: There is a theory that the developer of the modern-day Poké Ball really liked Foongus, but this has not been confirmed.
0591: Amoonguss: Be wary of the poisonous spores it releases. Mushrooms resembling Amoonguss’s caps will grow out of anywhere the spores touch.

Neat info about Poke Balls.

0610: Axew: This Pokémon lives in nests that are made in the ground. People in ancient times used its tusks as cooking knives.
0611: Fraxure: Because its tusks don’t grow back once they break, this Pokémon apparently won’t use them unless truly necessary.
0612: Haxorus: This Pokémon nests in caves and abandoned mines. It is docile, but it will become incredibly angry if its tusks are touched, so beware.

Kind of new info. The history is nice.

0613: Cubchoo: Many of this species can be found along the shorelines of cold regions. If a Cubchoo lacks dangling snot, there’s a chance it is sick.
0614: Beartic: It is a ferocious, carnivorous Pokémon. Once it captures its prey, it will breathe cold air onto the prey to freeze and preserve it.

New info about their behaviour & biology.

0615: Cryogonal: Cryogonal appear during cold seasons. It is said that people and Pokémon who die on snowy mountains are reborn into these Pokémon.

People & Pokemon may be reborn as Cryogonal, if they die on a snowy mountain, eh?
Time to give every Pokemon immortality.

0624: Pawniard: Pawniard will fearlessly challenge even powerful foes. In a pinch, it will cling to opponents and pierce them with the blades all over its body.
0625: Bisharp: This Pokémon commands a group of several Pawniard. Groups that are defeated in territorial disputes are absorbed by the winning side.

0633: Deino: It can’t see, so its first approach to examining things is to bite them. You will be covered in wounds until a Deino warms up to you.
0634: Zweilous: The two heads do not get along at all. If you don’t give each head the same amount of attention, they’ll begin fighting out of jealousy.
0635: Hydreigon: Only the central head has a brain. It is very intelligent, but it thinks only of destruction.

0636: Larvesta: This Pokémon was called the Larva That Stole the Sun. The fire Larvesta spouts from its horns can cut right through a sheet of iron.
0637: Volcarona: Its burning body causes it to be unpopular in hot parts of the world, but in cold ones, Volcarona is revered as an embodiment of the sun.

Kind of feats for Larvesta? Also, Volcarona can be found, or is at least known, in both hot & cold parts of the world.

0661: Fletchling: This Pokémon is normally calm, but once it enters battle, its hormonal balance changes and it becomes aggressive.
0662: Fletchinder: Fletchinder scatters embers in tall grass where bug Pokémon might be hiding and then catches them as they come leaping out.
0663: Talonflame: It has top-notch flying capabilities. It flies around easily, even while carrying prey that weighs more than 220 lbs.

Clarification about Fletchling, rephrasing of info about Fletchinder. First entry to call Talonflame's flying capabilities "top-notch" & also gives it a LS feat, albeit, negligibly low by our standards.

0664: Scatterbug: Any poison this Pokémon takes in is converted into a black powder and secreted. That’s why Scatterbug can eat poisonous leaves and roots.
0665: Spewpa: If Rufflet attacks this Pokémon by pecking at it, it will retaliate with its sharp fur and poisonous black powder.
0666: Vivillon: The patterns on this Pokémon depend on the climate and topography of the land it was born in. This form is from frigid lands.

Resistance to Poison Manipulation for Scatterbug, clarifies Spewpa uses the black powder like Scatterbug does.
Also, it seems like Vivillon may have region-specific Pokedex entries, though the differences may be negligible.
Also, these are the third unique entries the Scatterbug line has gotten, ever.

0667: Litleo: When Litleo are young, female Pyroar will teach them how to hunt. Once the Litleo mature, they will leave the pride and set out on their own.
0668: Pyroar: The females of a pride work together to bring down prey. It’s thanks to them that their pride doesn’t starve.

New behaviour info.

0669: Flabébé: This Pokémon can draw forth the power hidden within blooming wild flowers. It is particularly fond of red flowers.
0670: Floette: This Pokémon draws forth what power is left in withered flowers to make them healthy again. It holds a red flower.
0671: Florges: This Pokémon creates an impressive flower garden in its territory. It draws forth the power of the red flowers around its neck.

I wonder if the atypical red flower focus here is because this is Scarlet version.

0672: Skiddo: Until recently, people living in the mountains would ride on the backs of these Pokémon to traverse the mountain paths.
0673: Gogoat: It can sense the feelings of others by touching them with its horns. This species has assisted people with their work since 5,000 years ago.

Clarification of this line's history, as well as of Gogoat's empathic abilities. Previous entries mentioned it only reading emotions of its trainer via their grip on its horns.

I'll probably go over later. I find them interesting.
Any thoughts, all?

0702: Dedenne: It’s small and its electricity-generating organ is not fully developed, so it uses its tail to absorb electricity from people’s homes and charge itself.

Writers nerfing Dedenne.

0704: Goomy: Most of a Goomy’s body is water. A membrane covers the whole Pokémon to prevent it from shriveling up in dry weather.
0705: Sliggoo: The swirly protrusion on its back is filled with all its vital organs, such as its brain and heart.
0706: Goodra: It loves the rain. This mellow Pokémon can be seen walking around on the plains and in the mountains on rainy days.

New uses for Goomy's membrane. Also, clarification that Sliggoo's heart is in its back, & clarification of Goodra's behaviour.

0707: Klefki: Once it absorbs a key’s metal ions, it discards the key without a second thought. However, it will hang on to keys it favors for decades.

0714: Noibat: This Pokémon emits ultrasonic waves from its large ears to search for fruit to eat. It mistakes Applin for its food.
0715: Noivern: Ultrasonic waves emitted by a Noivern can pulverize a large boulder. This Pokémon has a cruel disposition.

0734: Yungoos: Its stomach fills most of its torso. It wanders the same path every day, searching for fresh food.
0735: Gumshoos: Once it finds signs of prey, it will patiently stake out the location, waiting until the sun goes down.

Clarifies behaviour & just exactly how long Gumshoos waits.

0739: Crabrawler: This Pokémon punches trees and eats the berries that drop down, training itself and getting food at the same time.
0740: Crabominable: The detached pincers of these Pokémon are delicious. Some Trainers bring Lechonk into the mountains just to search for them.

Neat. So Crabominable claws are kinda like truffles.

0741: Oricorio: This Pokémon is incredibly popular, possibly because its passionate dancing is a great match with the temperament of Paldean people.

0747: Mareanie: This Pokémon wanders the seaside looking for food. It often gets electric shocks from broken Pincurchin spines that it tries to eat.
0748: Toxapex: This Pokémon lives within a dome made by its own legs. Toxapex monitors its surroundings by sensing the flow of the tide through its spikes.

Info on Mareanie's scaling, & Toxapex's abilities.

0749: Mudbray: This Pokémon covers itself in mud that it has regurgitated. The mud won’t dry out even if it’s exposed to the sun for a long time.
0750: Mudsdale: This Pokémon has been treasured not just for its physical labor but also because it produces high-quality mud used for making pottery.

New info about the property of their mud.

0753: Fomantis: Fomantis hates having its naps interrupted. It fires off beams using energy it gathers by bathing in the sun.
0754: Lurantis: By masquerading as a bug Pokémon, it lowers the guard of actual bug Pokémon lured in by a scent of sweet flowers. Its sickles bring them down.

Info about their tactics. Also, apparently, Lurantis beats Bug-types despite a supposed type disadvantage.

0757: Salandit: It taunts its prey and lures them into narrow, rocky areas where it then sprays them with toxic gas to make them dizzy and take them down.
0758: Salazzle: Salazzle makes its opponents light-headed with poisonous gas, then captivates them with alluring movements to turn them into loyal servants.

Tactics info.

0761: Bounsweet: Its sweat is sweet, like syrup made from boiled- down fruit. Because of this, Bounsweet was highly valued in the past, when sweeteners were scarce.
0762: Steenee: Steenee spreads a sweet scent that makes others feel invigorated. This same scent is popular for antiperspirants.
0763: Tsareena: This Pokémon is proud and aggressive. However, it is said that a Tsareena will instantly become calm if someone touches the crown on its calyx.

More info. Also, a moderate weakness for Tsareena.

0769: Sandygast: If it loses its shovel, it will stick something else— like a branch—in its head to make do until it finds another shovel.
0770: Palossand: The terrifying Palossand drags smaller Pokémon into its sandy body. Once its victims are trapped, it drains them of their vitality whenever it pleases.

Neat to know Sandygast can work with non-shovels.

0775: Komala: Komala spends its entire life sleeping. It feeds on leaves that contain a potent poison only Komala can break down.

Resistance to Poison Manipulation for Komala?

0778: Mimikyu: This Pokémon lives in dark places untouched by sunlight. When it appears before humans, it hides itself under a cloth that resembles a Pikachu.

Is Mimikyu's behaviour something it only does around humans?

0779: Bruxish: It grinds its teeth with great force to stimulate its brain. It fires the psychic energy created by this process from the protuberance on its head.

Statistics Amplification?

Sorry about the long post.
Only the Sw/Sh & Sc/Sv entries to look over. Although, the source I'm viewing only has Scarlet's entries, so....

Tbh we haven't seen much of the Spirit World but Pokémon and humans can definitely choose to reincarnate as Pokémon if they wanted
1. Gengar
2. Froslass
3. Hisuian Zorua

0702: Dedenne: It’s small and its electricity-generating organ is not fully developed, so it uses its tail to absorb electricity from people’s homes and charge itself.
Doesn’t this imply all dedenne are not fully developed? Wonder if they’ll get an evo in the future

STANDING HERE I REALIZE

I finished my new blog post about the Sinnoh creation myth, it's an updated version of my previous blog with information from Legends Arceus. It has translations of the new plates from Japanese as well as translation from a statement from the 12th movie director talking about the settings behind Arceus

Hey, Exe-boi, was reading your blog again and caught a small error:
considering what was explained mainly in the Japanese version of the Pokémon Platinum event it can be said that this is a reference to the original state of the Heart before the world was made, what is mostly called the “Original One” in the English localization.

In the English version, the Heart is called "the Original Spirit", and the physical manifestation of Arceus is called "the Original One".

The two are separated here:
A Pokémon is said to have shaped this world.
Could that Pokémon be the physical form of the original spirit?
Hmm... The spirit came to be, and from it, time and space were born...
That seems to point to Legendary Dialga, the Pokémon of time, and Palkia, the Pokémon of space...
And they lead back to Arceus, the Pokémon that made them arise.
Oh, there were also Plates, weren't there?
One Plate read "Three beings were born to bind time and space."
Those three beings I read to mean the three Pokémon of the lakes. It's about Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf.
The myth describes how they gave spirit to the world, shaping it.
But it all starts with Arceus, the first. It is known as the Original One.

Though they are mentioned interchangeably to be fair, just a smol nit-pick.

1. Was the power of defeated giants infused in one plate or it was plural?
2. Same as above, but replace power of defeated giants with shards of the universe?

3. うまれてくる ポケモン プレートの ちから わけあたえられる

Does this mean Pokemon powers are originated from the plates? Types=Powers shared??

1. The game only ever says "プレート" (Plate), since Japanese lacks a proper plural there's no way to know if they want to say about a single plate or all of them.
2. Same thing, they all just say "プレート" (Plate) and that is how it's always mentioned, it's impossible to know how if it should be singular or plural just by "looking the Japanese text.
3. It says "the power of the plates are shared with the Pokémon".

生まれてくる (Born) ポケモン (Pokémon) プレートの力 (Plate's power) 分け与えられる (Shared/distributed)

The Plate's power is shared with the born/created Pokémon

Alright. That makes sense.

👌

Would you believe if i said that i did not know some of those actually existed, or were ultra beasts, more speficially the ballon head, the electricity eating, the living wall and the lil origami
Ultra Beasts couldve been explored more. There are many more we haven't seen

But nah, GF moves on.

They indeed, haven't gotten much attention, sadly. : (

Presumably, it's difficult to find ways to fit extradimensional aliens into a new region on the same planet as usual.

I do wonder what species could be on their worlds.

Oh interesting, although Exe has already done a spectacular blog explaining similar stuff.
May I have a link for it? All supporters say it is outdated, so I am trying to create one which is updated.
So people can stop using circling arguments in CRTs.
