Pokemon Discussion Thread - Red & Blue arc

Both were actually very good, but with different roles. Y was a nuke of a special sweeper (with Drought-boosted Fire Blast and one-turn Solar Beam), whereas X was a physical attacking monster that also lost some of its biggest weaknesses
The issue I'm having with X is that it was given the same attack and special attack stats though the attack stat should be more focused, it's a waste of stat distribution since I'm sure most people who wanna use X won't really care about using special moves because of the tough claws ability.

Admittedly they would've been better off just leaving X's Special Attack the same as its base form's and then dump the rest of the stat points into its attack, but it still is a very strong Pokemon in Gen 6 and 7 OU

A lot of this kind of 'what if' scenario kinda banks on Gamefreak being that in-touch with competitive players to begin with. They're very frequently either apathetic to the desires of that part of the fandom, or over correct 'issues' with all the grace of setting off a nuclear bomb.

Playing a pokemon main game is, typically, a pretty laid back experience that you can crack out with just about any pokemon pretty casually to the point where them being 'good' or 'bad' doesn't matter outside of you doing some challenge run to create your own difficulty.

Meanwhile, the pokemon's viability when it comes to any online or PvP play feels like an afterthought on their part at best.

I like a good 'what if' and reimagining things as much as the next guy, but...I might just be similarly apathetic when it comes to pokemon design from a gameplay point of view at this point. I can only shrug my shoulders and say: "Yup...Charizard is the way it is." and pick Charmander for the 45th time while playing my Fire Red copy.

Yeah, but I think they should give the 70 base stats from the mega evolution to the attack, that way it's gonna be 154 base attack stat, it gonna be around M Charizard Y special attack stat which is 159, and the remaining should be given to speed.

Except for when you pick chikorita in gen 2 games

Today is Mewtows birthday according to the Pokémon Mansion journals.
Happy Birthday to the GOAT:
Mewtwo Pokemon Mewtwo GIF - Mewtwo Pokemon Mewtwo Dancing GIFs

Ngl if I knew their birthday was coming up I would have moved remaking their profile up on my priority list.

So I'm working on Groudons profile revision and it's pretty much done. I'm still deciding whether I should do Pikachu, Gangar, or Mewtwo next.
"Only takes 1/2 damage from Fire-Type moves)"

Seems to be on base Groudon's key. Ground does not resist Fire despite doing SE damage against Fire-type Pokemon.
Primal Groudon would resist, though.

May be worth mentioning Energy Manipulation via Solar Beam, & listing that among the Light Manipulation, if we count it as Light Manipulation.

"(The energy that fills Primal Groudon pours forth as magma, and it burns with such an extreme temperature that its body is always shimmering with the haze of its heat)"

This doesn't seem unreasonable, but where's it come from?

I'm gonna do Mew and Mewtwo at the same time cause Mewtwo should have all of Mew's abilities. Btw how should we treat Mew having the DNA of every Pokemon and being stated to be able to learn every move?

Nice.

Stating that Mew has the DNA of every Pokemon should obviously be fine.

I don't know about it being able to learn every move though, are we certain that it can learn every move including the exclusive moves for certain Pokemon? Like the Z moves?

Mew can learn every TM move but can't learn use exclusive moves without using transform first.

I believe it was decided mew just straight up gets every move a while ago and that this doesn’t apply to mewtwo

Disagree. Mewtwo is a modification of Mew's genetics for power, so it is necessarily different.
Presumably, when you, in theory, throw out the genes that make something intolerant of water, you also throw out genes tied to other stuff, for example.
& offspring does not inherit all of its parents' genes to begin with.
Thus, it presumably doesn't have all of Mew's abilities. Not to mention, this is reflected in them having different level-up movepools & even Mewtwo being UNABLE to learn many TMs, unlike Mew, which can learn all of them.

Red/BlueIt was created by a scientist after years of horrific gene splicing and DNA engineering experiments.
YellowIts DNA is almost the same as Mew's. However, its size and disposition are vastly different.
GoldBecause its battle abilities were raised to the ultimate level, it thinks only of defeating its foes.
SilverIt usually remains motionless to conserve energy, so that it may unleash its full power in battle.
CrystalSaid to rest quietly in an undiscovered cave, this Pokémon was created solely for battling.
EmeraldA Pokémon that was created by genetic manipulation. However, even though the scientific power of humans made its body, they failed to give it a warm heart.
(Emerald's is reworded Ruby & Sapphire's entry, which uses "compassionate".)
FireRedA Pokémon whose genetic code was repeatedly recombined for research. It turned vicious as a result.
YA Pokémon created by recombining Mew's genes. It's said to have the most savage heart among Pokémon.
SwordCreated from the DNA of Mew, this Pokémon is a dangerous combination of overwhelming power and a savage heart.*
ShieldThe research efforts of a certain scientist ultimately resulted in this Pokémon. Its powers are dedicated to battling.*
(The Sword & Shield entries are found in Pokemon HOME.)

Mewtwo's DNA is at best, said to be "almost the same as Mew's" & that's in its Yellow entry, & Yellow was the games entry meant to be like the anime. Likewise, so were the Let's Go Games, which repeat the Yellow entry.
No other entries call it close, which makes sense; If you have something like DNA, which is like, trillions of genomes long, even 1% of it is a ton; We never get a numerical specification of how alike they are like "1%" or such, but the point is at huge scales, even small differences are huge.
Even a parent & their child are only so alike.

Meanwhile, tons of Mewtwo's other entries emphasize its nature which is unlike Mew. It "was created solely for battling", it was "made from years of horrific gene splicing & DNA engineering experiments", how it lacks a warm/compassionate heart, how it's vicious, far more savage & the notedly differing size & disposition.

& again, Mewtwo not sharing the same level-up movepool AND lacking Mew's ability to learn ALL TMs & Tutors.

I oppose giving Mewtwo all of Mew's abilities, canon repeatedly emphasizes their differences. Heck, wasn't Mewtwo's central movie ABOUT it fighting with Mew over their differences? (& then it went on to take its clones, made to differ like it, to live in peace.)

I want to create for Scottie/Bettie (The main protags of Pokemon Masters), but holy fricking crap is the idea of making a profile for them daunting, as I'd have to acknowledge practically all of Pokemon Masters and it's ridiculous scaling...

Pokemon Masters is their own continuity and creating a protagonist profile means that you need to know all the scaling chain. Since the game will have more characters, it would be more practical to create non-protagonist Pokemon Masters characters with less scaling chain.

By the way, Pokemon Masters Red is really stronger since he has been scaled above characters such as PM Nemona (We Should Battle!).

As far as I know, the only characters remotely comparable to Red in Masters are Ash, Cynthia, and Leon. Leon is also stronger than Nemona given that Nemona could match Blue while Leon stomped him

Given the main plotline of the tourney arc ended with the Player Character defeating Red's Sync team, and the Player was majorly important in stopping the villains (especially Giovanni's team at the end) during the villain arc, their scaling probably won't end up too complicated. They're consistently fighting/teaming up with/assisting the top tiers, ballparking whatever we give Red is fairly reasonable.

The specific situations of defeating villains are important too when determining feats, but I agree with "ballparking whatever we give Red is fairly reasonable".

Given that Masters has the 'This COULD be gane canon' statement stuff, it's probably fair that everything is going to end up one-way canon from games to masters.
