Pokemon Discussion Thread - Red & Blue arc

Nintendo put out 2 new ads for The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero: The Teal Mask:

Both are only in Japanese so far:

AFAIK, neither has anything new.

I personally think that Pokemon Conquest should have separated profiles and separated verse page because it has some noticeable differences from main Pokemon series, including but not limited to its system, its developer, its gameplay, its story, human "evolution".

Regarding Pokémon's discussion rules:
This rule, added in https://vsbattles.com/threads/about-the-2-b-pokemon-trainers-thread.7329/ at https://vsbattles.fandom.com/wiki/Discussion_Rules?diff=2026741&oldid=2018449, is outdated and should be removed, as trainers scaling to them has been accepted for a while now.
  • Do not try to downgrade Arceus, the Creation Trio, and any characters who scale from them based on them being harmed by Pokémon who are consistently shown to be below 2-B/2-A in statistics. This is because those events have been discussed to exhaustion and dismissed as Plot-Induced Stupidity or Game Mechanics. The lore that has been established and the feats they have showcased across all medias, which solidly place them at 2-B/2-A, should take precedence over these inconsistencies.
This rule was added in https://vsbattles.com/threads/big-pokemon-revision.129643/ at https://vsbattles.fandom.com/wiki/Discussion_Rules?type=revision&diff=7360699&oldid=7349117. It's fine to keep but could use some better sourcing, so I rewrote it:
*Do not try to downgrade [[Arceus]], [[Dialga|the]] [[Palkia|Creation]] [[Giratina|Trio]], and any characters scaling from them from 2-B/2-A based on Pokémon consistently below that level harming them. The [[User blog:Executor N0/Pokémon Called Gods|established lore]] and their feats across the franchise solidly place these characters at 2-B/2-A, and [[vsforum:threads/116259|extensive]] [[vsforum:threads/129643|discussion]] deemed these anti-feats as [[Game Mechanics]]-induced [[Plot-Induced Stupidity]].
@Elizhaa @Colonel_Krukov @Shadowbokunohero @Spinosaurus75DinosaurFan @Starter_Pack @GyroNutz @Psychomaster35 @SamanPatou @ElixirBlue @Firestorm808 @Executor_N0 @FinePoint @Everything12 Should I apply these changes?

Pokemon's Official Japanese Twitter has Tweeted out the following:

"有料追加コンテンツ『ポケットモンスター スカーレット・バイオレット ゼロの秘宝』「前編・碧の仮面」の配信まで、あと5日! 9月13日(水)の午前に配信予定だよ。 「キタカミの里」で待ち受ける冒険をお楽しみに! https://pokemon.co.jp/ex/sv_dlc/"

F5e0zh8XUAAUmq-

Google Translate translates that as:
"5 days left until the release of paid additional content “Pokémon Scarlet Violet Zero’s Treasure” “Part 1: Blue Mask”! It is scheduled to be distributed on the morning of Wednesday, September 13th. Look forward to the adventures that await you at “Kitakami no Sato”!"

Here's the announcement on their official, Japanese website:
AFAIK, the English website hasn't updated for this so far.

The morning of September 13th! Since that's in Japan time, that's the evening of September 12th for people in America, & late night in many parts of Europe.

Are you excited?

Personally, I think it's fitting -Even if I don't like the shoehorning of school stories in-; The visit to Kitakami is framed like a school field trip, so of course they have to be up early for the start of it - They've gotta get on to the bus on time!

I’m not excited at all. The whole point of Pokemon is that you don’t have to go to school. Stuffing even more school stories into an already very barebones school plot just sounds like hell. And they ruined the ogre Pokémon by showing it’s real face.

The whole point of Pokemon is that you don’t have to go to school.
Huh? Wdym that’s the whole point?
Pokemon is more like developing friendships with your Team and exploration
SV still matches both of these things, even in a school setting

Pokemon trainers are exempt from school, this has been true since the very conception of the anime.

Note that this doesn't include all species not already in the Paldea dex yet still obtainable in SV, such as Rillaboom, of note is that Walking Wake and Iron Leaves aren't on this dex.

It's a bit strange & frustrating that Walking Wake & Iron leaves are a now expired event only.
I hope they can be found in-game later on.

How was the Kitakami Regional Dex leak obtained again?

A private Discord server I'm on where this kind of stuff is leaked (can't say much more).

DLC should be releasing in a few hours, as it's scheduled for the morning of September 13th in Japan time!
Hype!

Who has a watch list and manga reading order for Mewtwo's appearances? I'm trying to research him

Is Bulbapedia any help in that regard?

There's also that 1 Pokemon magical journey manga that it was briefly involved in, IIRC.

Mehn, This thing has been in Pokémon for a long time. It's never really been explicitly mentioned

With a strong desire, you can acquire new abilities, stat boosts, forms and in Pokémon masters overturn fate itself.

Man, there's actually a few things to go over from The Teal Mask, but I lack the time AtM.

Anyone got anything at all from anything they wanna bring up?

What thing does this?

1. New abilities :
Salamence, the Dragon Pokémon. As a result of a powerful desire to fly, Salamence were able to trigger the cells in their body and cause them to grow wings. Thanks to its fervent wishes, the cells in its body finally mutated, and at last it has its heart's desire—wings.
Caitlyn strong desire to fight caused her to awaken her latent psychic powers

2. Stat boosts
When one truly treasures another and fights to protect them their strength is magnified many fold

3. New Forms:
Mega Rayquaza was said to have been born from humanity's wish for salvation, channeled through the Key Stone of a Draconid Lorekeeper

4. Fate
A pure true desire to win has the power to change one's fate-General

Source on those, please? Are they from any particular contexts?

1 thing that was brought to my attention while watching a video.

When Kieran punches the shrine, a small amount of purple mist is released from his fist.
This probably isn't natural, & may mean that, despite the delayed reaction, whatever released them was before or during when he punched it.

Possible causes:

1. The Teal Mask emitted Tera Energy, just like that from Area Zero, which affected the shrine. Notably, the mask was described as chipped, hence the fetch quest.
1-A. Tera Energy interacted with Kieran's emotions, desires, &/or perception of The Ogre/The Loyal 3, bringing them forth according to Kieran's feelings/perceptions. Desires, wishes, longing, etc. are all prominent in Tera Crystal lore as well as in how The Loyal 3 gained their forms.
1-B. Tera Energy's alleged property to "meet people here who've passed away" (Carmine's words about a weird rumour) &/or the "tales" that say "gazing upon the glowing water can allow you to meet those who have passed on" are somewhat true & the Tera Crystal in The Teal Mask revived The Loyal 3. Could they have been changed because it was chipped?

2. The Loyal 3 were kept sealed in the shrine & Kieran somehow broke it. Perhaps power seeped into him from that "Poison Peach" plushie at the stand he visited, & when he punched it, seeped into the shrine & broke, kind of like a silent bomb, hence the delayed reaction? (Even I'm skeptical of this.)
It does seem notable that we don't find out why Kieran was visiting Peachy's.

3. Kieran is possessed, presumably by that "Poison Peach" Pokemon?

4. An assumed cause the developers intent but couldn't reasonably implement without spoiling their own story or denying unknowing players the chance to interact with The Legendaries: The player's Tera Orb gathered Terastal Energy, & that gathering's process, &/or when they Terastallized their Pokemon caused what happened at the shrine.
After all, the player was the new factor, & there wouldn't be much reason for them to battle there otherwise.

What do you all think?

There is some interesting things I noticed, looking at the statues.

1. Statue Okidoki has some bulk around its neck. It seems slightly upturned & is like, slightly -1 cm, maybe millimeters?- apart from the actual head. Is this the collar-like contemporary Okidogi neck around it that the poison chain is attached to?
2. All 3 are shown sitting (I doubt a bird would sit with its legs flat/parallel to the ground.) as statues. Kinda weird. We always see them standing, or laying down in what little of their idle animations I've seen. (Seriously, someone show these poor guys some love & take them to picnics. Getting footage of them at certain angles is a pain in the butt.) Statue Okidoki sitting when contemporary Okidogi like a regular dog is always standing upright is a little uncanny.
3. Statue Monkidori's head is covered by the tuque-like headpiece, but it lacks the hair tuft that contemporary Munkidori has.
4. Okidogi lacks the fur tufts that stick out from its waist.
5. All 3, obviously, lack their poison chain proper.
6. If you look at Fezandipiti's head, you can see it has more spikes than its statue:

Heck, I'm skeptical it even has any spikes as a statue, since there seems to be only 3 & they're on the sides pointing backwards, with only 1 pointing up.
7. Fezandipiti's wing styles are also obscured by the cloth on its statue, its eyebrows are a different style. I'd dare risk saying statue Fezandipiti looks more wisened/serious, in a "wise owl" sort of way. The statue also has simplified feet -Maybe for ease of modelling?- unlike Fezandipiti's actual bird talons.
8. The statues seem to be missing ther tails. Okidogi has a huge tail, & Fezandipiti has a long one, too. Fezandipiti even learns Tail Slap!

The statues seem to differ a lot. Either the models are a bit abstracted. The villagers &/or statue makers lacked a clear view? Simplified to make making models easier? True details lost to time?

There's also a similarity to the Paradox Pokemon, where it seems like many, if not at least a few are inexact to depictions/inspiration for them. Great Tusk & Iron Treads come to mind, as do the Paradox Pokemon in general; Their Pokedex entries practically all specify a resemblance or similarities, but never do a complete AFFIRMATION of sameness. Sometimes, the resemblance is even implied to be weak.

This implies the Paradox Pokemon are inexact to what is seen in the books.
If The Loyal 3 are indeed inexact to their statues, is this intentional? Is it meant to be a connection, &/or implication of Tera involvement? A similar means of how they came to be in the present?
