The statement is only about the Tsar Bomba, which is 50 Megatons. There's no indication that its 2-20x the Tsar. The only rating it should have is "At least City level+ (Explosion was stated to be more powerful than the Tsar Bomba).Mountain level to Island Level with Self-Destruction (Peace Walker's self-destruction activates a "massive" Hydrogen Bomb that's more powerful than the Tsar Bomba. Real Life Hydrogen Bombs could pack anywhere from 100 Megatons all the way up to several Gigatons)
The Hiroshima Bomb was not 10 megatons of TNT and Hydrogen Bombs never got to 100 megatons, let alone gigatons. I think the author of the article just put kilo in front of stuff on accident. Since if you remove that modifier everything Morse said lines up with IRL figures. In both cases, a significant amount of energy is released, which drives the explosion, experts say. However, more energy is released during the fusion process, which causes a bigger blast. “The extra yield is going to give you more bang,” Morse said.
Morse said the atomic bombs dropped on Japan were each equivalent to just about 10,000 kilotons of TNT. “Those were the little guys,” Morse said. “Those were small bombs, and they were bad enough.” Hydrogen bombs, he said, would result in a yield of about 100,000 kilotons of TNT, up to several million kilotons of TNT, which would mean more deaths.
