One Piece Discussion Thread Seventeen Fishman Island

Thriller Bark is one of the most overlooked and underrated arcs, mostly because of its comedy.
But it's very interesting how it features a couple of themes that are out of place for a shonen manga: Hogback's pasion for Cindry, the consequences of having your shadow stolen, the way Hogback plays with human lifes by creating zombies, Brook's story, Kuma almost killing Zoro, Moriah foreshadowing how terrible the New World can be.
WoW

Now i see why it's one of Devilkais favorite arcs

Looks like at least High 7-A One piece will be going if history repeats itself.
Well not exactly, if the KE version get accepted then we would still keep High 7-A, only to a lower level.

Water Seven/Enies Lobby because they are deeply connected.

Mostly because of the conflict inside the Strawhats, which is something unprecedented and that hasn't happened again.

I'm still waiting for Zoro to quit the crew in Wano.

It's not the same.

Sanji resigned in the same sense as Robin did, but in no way he confronted Luffy like Usopp did, challenging his leadership and calling for a duel instead of attacking him to make him go away.

It wasn't a matter of pride or self-confidence (like Usopp) but helping other people to live (the Strawhats and the Baratie cooks).

Zoro won't quit the crew, it would be a massive contradiction to his own words "is it really so easy to leave the crew"

You're forgetting when he told Luffy that he can't lack a captain's pride and that, if Usopp wanted to come back, he'd need to apologize and ask for their forgiveness. Otherwise, if they let him get back without that, he'd quit the crew.

What did Usopp do? He disobeyed the captain and challenged him to a duel.

Sanji deliberately attacked Luffy and, arguably, provoked Pedro's and Jinbe's (supossed) death while they were on the need of as much manpower as possible to start a war against Kaido.

Zoro would get really mad with Sanji for doing that and with Luffy for letting him get back despite that (if he gets the wrong idea that Sanji never apologized).

There's actual fundaments for why Zoro could quit the crew at some point.

It's just a wish. I like the dramatic theme in W7/EL because of this topic, and it left an open door to continue but way worse because it'd happen during an all-out war.

Thriller Bark gets too much hate, probably because it comes off the heels of one of the best arcs. Hot take but Skypeia is garbage aside from the Noland and Calgara flashback.

Usopp's love for Going Merry is not pride or self confidence.
I wrote that part wrong.

It was because of Usopp lacks self-confidence.

He even said that if Luffy were to dump Merry just because it's broken and useless, what would happen to him, who doesn't have a vital function in the crew nor is strong enough to be of value.

Sanji left to protect someone tho, if Zoro did have a go at Sanji and abanon his friend over it it would be really pathetic of him imo and he seemed like with usopp he wanted Usopp to learn humility so usopp can grow.

The whole saga from Sabaody to Marineford is One Piece at its peak. It Has the most tension, intensity, excitement whilst breaking the formulaic structure of typical op arcs. Marineford still the most unique arc in op in terms of structure and the good guys losing.

Yes, One Piece is delayed until next week.
This is very worrying, especially with the current situation that the world had with the coronavirus.

I hope this isn't the case.

Hardly the case. Mangaka live isolated in their houses alongside the assistants.

It's not impossible, but very unlikely.

If buggy becomes a Yonko can we invalidate the whole "Mihawk doesn't scale to Shanks anymore since Shanks became a Yonko many years after their rivalry ending" bullshit?

It's not a bullshit, if you see Marineford Mihawk doesn't seem to be stronger than admirals. Ando also, Imho Shanks unlocked conqueror while protecting Luffy and later he obtained the advanced version of It and thanks to that he became Yonko Level, but that's a my theory.

Yeah

Not gonna happen

Oda knows his limits

Conqueror's has only been shown to be fodder control so far and it's not shown he doesn't have advanced Conqueror's when he's with Luffy. Marineford Mihawk literally wasn't trying, Are we going to scale Mihawk to Zoro because he didn't reduce Zoro to atoms?
Users with an extremely high Conqueror Haki can use it to exert their will over objects, resulting in said objects breaking. This was seen when Shanks was able to crack the wood of Whitebeard's ship while using his Haki. In the case of Big Mom's Haki, it is so strong that it could destroy the KX-Launcher's rockets, even while she was in an unstable condition. It is said in the databooks that Vista's skills are on the same level or even higher of Mihawk's skills. So Yonko commanders can fight pretty well against Mihawk, but can't do that against Shanks or other Yonko.

Using a databook? Mihawk's Vivre card already implies Mihawk >\= Shanks.

I like the theory that Luffy will have to sacrifice a loved one to master CH.
Probably have Catarina use her power to turn into Ace and traumatize Luffy--though i would expect this mid-fight against BB or one of his big guys.
