Sonic's 2-C or Infinite speed rating is only effective when fighting against Evil beings though.
Actually it's based off of positive energy, not if he's fighting someone evil.

Anyway I'm not looking forward to this fight, both Mario and Sonic fans will turn the whole thing into a shitshow no matter who wins.

don't think he'd have access to positive energy or whatever in this fight

Yes, but the Positive Energy can only be used against Evil beings; the negative energy is what would be used if fighting against good characters. And even the Positive energy thing, it only gives as much as needed. Still, Sonic is extremely consistent in showing obvious signs of Finite speed in most end game bosses; such as Final Hazard, Perfect Chaos, Dark Gaia, various 2D Sonic games, ect.

But instead of the negative energy being Galaxy Level it's actually planet level which 1 emerald already is, but it also releases Dark Gaia so that's cool I guess

1-6 Emeralds are too inconsistent to properly judge; sometimes, they're arguable lower than High 6-A. And even with all 7, the best negative energy Chaos Emerald feat is 5-A. But, we have it rated as 4-A based on it being supposedly superior to Eggman's satellite lasers in Sonic Battle.

Yeah the Chaos Emeralds are the ultimate plot device, they're as powerful as the plot wants them to be and the amount of inconsistencys that causes is headache inducing. One minute a single Chaos Emerald can rip apart a whole planet, and then suddenly you need 6 of them to produce planet level power, and then once again a single Chaos Emerald somehow drives off the Time Eater.

By that logic, Super Sonic wouldn't be a able to do much damage to Mario, much like Samurai Jack's sword and the Matrix of Leadership being capable of slaying beings of evil.

Evil's not really the most objective term in the first place so DB can probably finagle their way out of that. Or just ignore it.

It was never stated in canon that sonic had infinite speed either lol
That's a false equivalency. Super Sonic has infinite speed because he fought Solaris and Time Eater in destroyed space-time where time = 0, so movement in those areas would require infinite speed.

The whole in depth lore about the Chaos Emeralds having positive energy vs negative energy, in which the positive energy can only harm beings of evil is the only reason Infinite speed got accepted in the first place. Tier 2 and Infinite speed Sonic used to be banned topics and treated as massive outliers. So unless you guys want Sonic downgraded again, it's best to drop the whole 2-C and Infinite speed being legit in all encounters.

Besides Infinite speed would strongly contradict characters like Amy Rose and Tails being able to talk mid battle.

Exactly, that's what I'm trying to say. Positive Energy = 2-C. Negative Energy = 4-A.

Ok, so why do they vary?
They grant power proportional to the enemy that Sonic's facing. Only beings who can use the emeralds to their fullest potential get 2-C, otherwise they're 4-A.

@DarkDragonMedeus Negative and positive energy doesn't mean that Sonic can only go 2-C against "evil beings."

Except Amy and Tails were not in the actual environments, they were in the space-time rift in 06 while Sonic, Shadow, and Silver fought Solaris in a void, and in Generations where Sonic fought Time Eater, Tails even mentioned that he and the rest of Sonic's friends were in a different dimension.

How could they all tell what was going on then?

The infinite speed thing just sounds like a bunch of BS
Then again how do they know what buttons you need to press on the controller?

They're talking to guide the player in how to defeat the boss.

Chalk talking up to the whole "talking is a free action" thing, as otherwise talking between supersonic characters wouldn't be the easiest thing to do.

"With the seven Chaos Emeralds at his side, Sonic can use their incredible power to transform into Super Sonic. In this form, Sonic is nearly invulnerable, gains a 1000% power increase, gains the ability to fly. And after it's time limit runs out, Sonic returns back into his base form's peak physical condition."

Still throwing out that misinformation about super forms I see.
