Megami Tensei General Discussion Thread

Both, and its a fusion spell
Ah, thanks.

Any idea about the other questions? Reposting them:

Do we have a database for the cards &/or their translations?

Also, IDK SMT that well.

Do we go by prerequisites for learning it?
How are we determining who it scales to?
& if it's based on who has Landspark, do we have any easy way to find what gets it?

IDK if it being a Fusion Spell precludes any of those or something.

Yeesh, LMAO
Not sure if you mean you find it impressive or unimpressive, but take with caution. That wording is from Google Translate.
& truly glad to see others invested in this!

I put a transcription of the Japanese text if we have any people who speak Japanese better than me wanna double check it.

But hey, I'm hype for any demons getting ratings that aren't Universal or higher tier-stompers.
In large part because new matchup opportunities.

Like, if there's Tier 2 or 1 or whatever demons, fine, so long as it's accurate. I just personally think that they lead to less opportunity for interesting matchups.

Impressive, actually
Is it?

With like, 1500 demons I'm surprised we have a lack of feats for the lower tiers.

I recall something about some incineration feat that ran into issues because the target being incinerated may not be able to be validly assumed to have the material & mass of a human or something?

So, I'm a little confused.

The Innocent Sin prerequisites are listed as:

  1. Any Earth skill
  2. Any Fire skill
  3. Mamagnara
& for Eternal Punishment:
  1. Any Earth skill
  2. Any Fire skill
  3. Maha Magna
How does this work?

Do you need to match all 3 prerequisites of the Fusion Spell? Or only one? Or only two?
Can they be on only one demon, or do you need two? Or do you need as many demons as there are are prerequisites to fulfill?

I am interested in profiles being made, but I basically never do editing.

I tend to do research & discussion more often.

Also, can help me to understand how Fusion Spell criteria work, please?
I haven't played P2.
Bah, I did some research on it.

It seems to be that all component spells must be cast, in order, uninterrupted, & thus, necessarily requires as many characters as there are component spells.

Land Spark needs:

1. Any Earth skill.
2. Any Fire skill.
3. Mamagnara (AKA Maha Magnus) (IS)/Maha Magna (AKA Mamagna) (EP).

In that order, uninterrupted.

So, who can provide the component spells?

Let's start with the final part, since it's the strictest, & Mamagnara/Maha Magna seem to be higher tiered spells, from my limited understanding?
Ergo, if those two spells are higher tiered, they contribute to more of the AP yield than the other Spells, probably.

So who can get Mamagnara, AKA Maha Magnus in Persona 2 IS &/or EP?
Well, it also can be taught to a Persona by using the Mamagnara Stone Skill Tablet, which is dropped by Duergar.
Besides those that can get it via using the Skill Card for it in Fusion (Not specified, so anyone or no one? IDK.)....

For what it's worth, there's a few that can learn it in Megami Ibunroku Persona, but IDK if we count that. Are Fusion Spells even a thing in that game?

Now, the other finishing spell, Maha Magna, in Persona 2: EP, anyway.
The Mamagna Stone Skill Tablet can teach it, & is dropped by Leprechaun.
It can also be taught to a Persona by using the Mamagna Card Skill Card in Fusion.

Since using either of these spells (Depending on game.) after a Fire Spell that followed an Earth Spell does a Spell Fusion into Land Spark, which can cause an Earthquake of "at least Magnitude 7", this could be a scaling point.

So who does that scaling point matter for? Who didn't have any before? Who is it not an outlier for? Who is it evidence of a re-tiering for?

& how do we split the yield? Because keep in mind, the Magnitude 7 earthquake is from the effects of Land Spark, which is a product of 3 spells combining, but it seems like the finishing spell is higher spell-tiered (In-game.) &/or more important than the first two parts.

Even a portion of the yield should be better than nothing at all, right?

Magnitude 71.995262e+15476.879063098 KilotonsLarge Town level

AKA At least High 7-C, or a portion of it.

Here's a quick list of the applicable demons/Personas (IDK if level learned or if it's by mutation matters.):
Also, can we even scale this to demons? Can they do Fusion Spells in that game? Do we know if it'd apply to them?

Mamagnara/Maha Magnus, Demons, IS & EP: Satyr, Demeter
Mamagnara/Maha Magnus, Personas, IS: Tenjiku Tokubei, Eros Prime, Gullinbursti, Genbu, Principality, Demeter
Mamagnara/Maha Magnus, Personas, EP: Sarutobi Sasuke, Tenjiku Tokubei, Rinok, Aizen Myouou, Grinbulsti, Iris, Demeter

Mamagna/Maha Magna, Demons, IS: Ixtab, Wraith
Mamagna/Maha Magna, Demons, EP: Robin Goodfellow, Wraith
Mamagna/Maha Magna, Personas, IS: Airgetlam, Eros, Robin Goodfellow, Nekomata, Iris
Mamagna/Maha Magna, Personas, EP: Airgetlam, Robin Goodfellow, Poltergeist, Iris

Hopefully this helps. Sorry if this is a lot to go over.

Question:

What are the cases when/where a Demon or Persona is not to be rated as a Tier of High 3-A or above?

I'm interested in finding feats for stuff, but I wish I knew when they do or don't matter.

Semi-relatedly, Makara is frustrating to me because of game design constraints:

"A holy creature that carries the gods on its back in Hindu lore. It lives in rivers and lakes. It's a type of fish said to have the qualities of crocodiles, hippopotami, elephants, and Naga in the Da Tang Xiyu Ji, A buddhist record of the west world, it's the size of a mountain and its eyes shine like the sun."
Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2 Demonic Compendium

(Among other entries saying roughly the same thing.)

Yet it blatantly isn't the size of a mountain in any of the games it appears in, I'm pretty sure.
Which is disappointing, because that might be a pretty neat feat, you know?

Maybe Makara just manifested in a form that wasn't mountain sized in the games it appears in? Sandalphon is pretty similar, and in Dx2 its stated he can change his shape

Maybe?

But if that's the case, would it mean we could use its theoretical mountain self for even a "possibly" rating?

Appearances

I can't find any mention of it being in the story on its own page.

Anyone wanna check what size it appears to be in those games. lol?
(We can probably check off any that are sprite-based, probably.)

FWIW, it may also be notable that it carries gods on its back,
If any of the Hindu Gods are really big/heavy, that could be a LS feat.

It has this description:
"A colossal demon with the head of a deer, dragon horns, and the body of a fish."
Demonary, DemiKids

That implies it is big in DemiKids. (Maybe the Japanese dialogue is more elucidating on the size?)

It has dialogue from Devil Survivor & Devil Survivor 2 listed. IDK where from, but I presume it's for when being summoned or fused.

Devil Survivor:
I am Makara the Snake. Ride my back to the righteous path. There lieth the truth.
The body is but a vessel. My soul shall always be with thee.

Devil Survivor 2:
ME Makara THE Snake! ME FIGHT, BUT ME REAL JOB IS CARRY GODS.
ME GO BACK TO CARRYING GODS AGAIN...

If it weren't for it being for when summoned & fused, such statements of it carrying Gods might be more evidence of it having its large size.

I know from personal experience that demons have dialogue when checked in your Demons menu. Some of it is unique. But as a 3-Star in that, I'm not sure it'd have anything unique. (Plus, it appears as like, 2 meters tall, tops, in Dx2's gameplay.)

Dx2's Demons menu dialogue is poorly documented, but I can try checking. Should I?
