Megami Tensei General Discussion Thread

This is technically not Megami Tensei, but would anyone be interested in potentially scaling Metaphor: ReFantazio (assuming it doesn't have some weird cosmological tie to MegaTen that makes it part of the verse)? I would really like to work on profiles, but I still have to finish my work on another verse.

I could possibly help since I'll be playing it on release.

Yeah.

I'm playing though the demo, I'm not 100% sure it's not connected to Megami Tensei, since the demo seems to be teasing it quite a bit so far, but we'll have to wait and see for the final release before drawing conclusions

could bring any future discussion to this thread if theres anything interesting to discuss

MegaTen humans can simply put, fight gods they have no business fighting. We shouldn’t use the point of “they lost to humanity.” Especially is the God in question isn’t tier 0. Let’s not forget PT at the time were vastly stronger then when they stole Yaldabaoth’s role of administrator. Effectively giving them the power of the masses. That’s how Sataneal was summoned in the first place, Sataneal is of the same ilk as Yaldabaoth, an administrator.
btw, could you elaborate on this? I remember the scene but I don't remember that being my takeaway from the scene.
Where is it stated that they stole the role of administrator? Or how does one reach that conclusion?

Yaldabaoth was an administrator, which gave him an amp from the masses. By the time of Sataneal joker stole the masses’ thoughts and wishes and used them for himself, which gave him the amp to summon an administrator himself, but one based on freedom. This is elaborated in P5R when Levanza discussed with PT about Maruki’s ascent to said role. And even then it was because PT gave it to him.

Why can some demons use observation when it is stated in Apocalypse that this power is exclusive to humans?

Its probably a retcon or something. The angels Observing their own YHVH into existence is a pretty notable thing in SMT 2's backstory, since it was this false YHVH that breathed life into Aleph and the other artificial messiahs in the first place, except for Zayin who had the real YHVH put Satan's soul inside him. Fake YHVH isn't just a guy who appears during the archangel boss fight like I thought at first.

This interview is worth attention.
Sayaka Ohara, the VA of Mem Aleph, mentioned the Great Will.
I asked a guy who knows Japanese to translate the paragraph, and the translation that came out is this:

Although she presents [herself] as the final boss, rathen than being an absolute evil, I was extremely conscious she was a character that carried an unfathomable presence as a “great will”, a life form/living being antithetical to humans.

I don’t know if this is common knowledge or not, so just to be safe, I’m posting this "discovery" here.

It says a great will. Not the great will.

A voice actor has no power over the script though
But a Voice Actor can know about script details and sometimes, know more than the writer. In Digimon for example, they were actually the earliest source for lore because the scriptwriter had to tell them stuff beforehand, like what is the truth about the story or lore such as the connection between humans and Digimon that fans would find out for the first time in 2018 because they ignored when the voice actors first told it. And there was even a case in which a voice actor had to remind the scriptwriter about how the character really was because the scriptwriter forgot, but the voice actor didn't.

I wouldn't say voice actors has some absolute say over a work or anything like that, but it's not uncommon, especially in Japanese materials, for the voice actors to receive back settings to better understand how to do their work, so if they are actually saying something that was told to them, I think it can be a fair source of information.

What happened to the role of administrator after the end of P5R? Did Joker take it back? Did Maruki stay on it? Did the role disappear? Or is it unknown?

afaik the role was up for grabs and that's why the spin-offs (PQ2, P5S, P5T, etc.) happened

I don't think the second part can be the case, since neither PQ2, P5S nor P5T take place after the fight against Maruki, as far as I understood

I know P5T does take place after the events of the Third Semester, as a fact. PQ2 doesn't take place after the events of the base game, and P5S was never stated to be set in the Royal universe, either, so unless something in Tactica retconned the continuity, I don't think it's set after.

Doesn't P5T take place between the battle against Yaldabaoth and the battle against Maruki? I thought they were doing preparations for graduation, since otherwise Makoto and Haru should have moved out already, among other details

The end of the Third Semester occurs on February 3rd, while Shujin's graduation date is March 15th, so there's about a month of downtime where the events of Tactica take place. You defeat Yaldabaoth the same day the Third Semester begins.

This is my mistake as I've been watching Twin Peaks again and the logic as to how the Non-Physical beings work there treat the time of the Physical world as irrelevant so I ascribed the same attribute to the shadow administrators. But considering the cognitive copy of Joker appears with Satanael all the way in the Abyss of Time in Episode Aigis I feel like it is possible that the admins of the spin-offs canonically exist "after" Yaldabaoth and Maruki even if they don't exist within the same "continuity" (i.e. that hypothetically from the perspective of the three teams in PQ2 this is all taking place "now" but it really takes place "after" until you beat Enlil and they are all sent their separate ways and that P5S and by consequence P5X will both have admins that share the same domain in Atziluth but to the respective Phantom Thieves of their worlds they will appear to be the end all be all threat of the game).

The Landspark spell in the TCG says it causes an Earthquake of Magnitude 7. Its a fusion spell from Persona 2, and I'm wondering if it upgrades any low tiers
I used an OCR website to get most of the text.

It missed the text in the pink part, which, based on the Hiragana, seems to be something about card type or timing restriction, since it says "Main Phase". IDK what the Kanji in the pink part says.
It also missed or misidentified a few kanji.
But the rest seems to be accurately transcribed.

After cleanup, this is what I have:

ランドスパークー
発動者となる味方パートナー1体をタップし、プレーヤーの手札1枚を黄泉へ送り発動。
敵フレ-ャーをきむすべての敵に物理系タメージ50ポイント。発動後このカ-ドは黄泉へ
術者者が大地と共握し、マグニチュード7を超える大地震を広範囲に発生させる合体魔法。強大な地震のカで敵を排除する。

Does that seem like an accurate transcription?

Google translate gives this for that text:

Land Spark
Tap one allied partner to activate and send one card from the player's hand to the underworld.
50 points of physical damage to all enemies who activate enemy flamers. After activation, this card is sent to the underworld.
A combination magic in which the caster grasps the earth and creates a large earthquake exceeding magnitude 7 over a wide area. Eliminate enemies with the power of the powerful earthquake.

Do we have a database for the cards &/or their translations?

Also, IDK SMT that well.

Innocent Sin or Eternal Punishment?
Do we go by prerequisites for learning it?
How are we determining who it scales to?
& if it's based on who has Landspark, do we have any easy way to find what gets it?
