Hannibal should be extraordinary genius
First off his memory palace is magnificent with its capacity and storage
“My Memory Palace is large and vast, even by medieval standards. The entrance hall is the Norman Chapel in Palermo. Severe, beautiful and timeless, with a single reminder of mortality; a skull carved into the ground.” ~ Hannibal Lecter, NBC series.
Hannibal’s Mind Palace is described as vast, even for medieval standards and is in this place that Hannibal stores all of his memories. Hannibal’s Mind Palace is so detailed and well structured, to the point that Hannibal himself states that if they ever captured him he could essentially “live there”, as a form of a different reality for him. Hannibal’s MP (the building established as the Palaces lobby)
is based on the Cappella Palatina in the Palazzo Reale, which is based on a real structure in the city of Palermo.
Hannibal's Mental Palace is outlined as a structure of considerable dimensions, remarkably expansive, even in comparison to medieval standards, the environment where Hannibal stores his memories and memories, as evidenced in the literary canon and in the TV series. Given these assertions, it would be correct to infer similarities between the size of the structure of the two versions. Through the measurements and data of the structure, we can quantify the amount of detailed information that Lecter's visual-spatial perception precisely conceives. The building is a splendid example of Norman architecture. It features a ceiling adorned in golden mosaics, with figures and scenes of a religious nature, especially biblical, in addition to the colorful marble columns highlighted around the chapel. Finally, its architectural apogee portrays the richness of cultural fusion in the region. Hannibal is able to visualize the entire interior of the Norman Chapel of Palermo with extreme clarity and depth (including all the details of the structure). Hannibal can essentially visualize 1800 sqm along with 18 m of height and 16 m in width. So Hannibal can visualize 32.400 m3 of dimensional space in his mind along with all the details of the interior.
Outside of all the different objects inside his MP that Hannibal can perfectly visualize he can also do the same with the pictures on the walls of his MP. Hannibal can visualize 424 different mosaics, which are used to create 314 different images. Even the smallest mosaics are composed of at least 360 pieces or tiles. (insane Visual acuity)
Which means that Hannibal can visualize at least 150.000+ visual information at the same time. If we use the highest estimates this number can go as far as more than 5.000.000 different visual informations at the same time. The average estimate would be around 1.000.000 visual information. (Just for the mosaics)
In the Script of Season 3, Episode 2 - Primavera, it’s stated that the Norman Chapel is just where his memory palace begins. Beyond it, far and complex, is the vast structure of his mind. It contains a thousand rooms and miles of corridors.
So Hannibal can visualize:
- 32.400 m3 of dimensional space
- Every object and detail inside this 3D space
- At least 150.000+ different visual information for the mosaics alone
- A thousand rooms and miles of corridors beyond the Norman Chapel

Cognition:
Hannibal can also operate in his MP and in the real world at the same time, since he was able to converse with Will in his MP while also being able to navigate himself through his prison cell in the real world at the same time (S3 Ep13). He was basically talking to Will in his MP and in the real world at the same time. Due to the detail of the architecture, in terms of fidelity to reality, Hannibal perceives the material and imaginary world as distinct, although identical, providing him with a new space as a home. We know that Hannibal’s MP is so detailed that Hannibal himself perceives it as a different reality, stating that "If I'm ever apprehended, my memory palace will serve as more than a mnemonic system. I will live there” and we can also see him interacting with objects in his MP like he was in the real world. Essentially, it’s like Hannibal can operate on two different realities at once, the one being his mental construct and the other being the physical world, without the one interfering with the other.
(WMI, Multitasking, Divergence Thinking, Abstract Reasoning, Cognition)
Hannibal is also able to sense and perceive things even when he’s in his MP. For example in S2 Ep 7, Hannibal was able to hear music in the halls of his MP (which he had probably stored from some orchestra he had visited in the past) with clarity and detail. Hannibal outside of visual information can also store auditory (S2 E7), smells (S2 E2), and tastes (S2 E10), in his MP. He is able to perceive his MP through his 5 senses, making his memories seem as real as the real world. He is also able to sense the environment of the real world even when he’s in his MP. He was able to sense Will’s presence in the room while being in his MP (probably by smelling him).

Hannibal’s Split Brain Syndrome Theory:
It was stated by Will Graham at the beginning of Season 3, that Hannibal “can follow several trains of thought at the same time without being distracted by any of them” (we see that when he’s operating in the real world and at his MP at the same time). He also goes on to say that one of those trains of thought is always about his amusement. By “trains of thought” he means that Hannibal can essentially run several different thought processes about different cognitive tasks at the same time by dividing the tasks into different parts of his brain. Several = more than two, so Hannibal can basically run 3+ different thought processes at the same time. This is an example of robust cognition. He can divide the tasks he wants to compute between the two of his hemispheres, and simultaneously run them, without each distracting one another. As it’s stated one of his hemispheres is always for his amusement, whilst the other registers real time and computes real time works. Meaning, whilst one of his hemispheres is endeavoring to finish his real time correspondences, the other hemisphere could brainstorm and generate ideas that aren’t directly connected with his real time correspondences.
An example would be:
One of his hemispheres would be registering his patients convo and generating his responses , whilst the other hemisphere assimilates his observations of his
patient all at once.
Overall his split brain syndrome gives him crazy multi-tasking abilities that can even allow him to operate in his MP and in the real world at the same time, calculating and perceiving different cognitive problems simultaneously. The ability to run several train of thought at the same time without being distracted by any of them is completely beyond the realms of reality, it is not possible for any human to achieve at the same time two important task, even if you try it won’t be efficient due to the cognitive load and the fact that you might associate information of the first task to the second, but Hannibal can not only run at least 3 thought so 3 task, but he can do it efficiently. Other Rooms in the Mind Palace:
As highlighted several times in all media, Lecter's Mental Palace consists of several rooms. Going beyond the entrance hall, (in that case the Norman Chapel), we have Hannibal's office — its appearance is elegantly designed — artistic, refined and symbolic, expressing the doctor's tastes and sophisticated nature. With an art nouveau style inside, the office has an extensive personal library, artistic frames, Danish furniture and a color palette of gray and red, oscillating between the owner's apathy and violence. The exterior of the office resembles that of a historic building.
The content recorded within the mental palace ranges from literary-academic knowledge, profiles, psychological and medicinal diaries, affective memories and sensitive memories, that is, views, sounds, odors, flavors and sensations. We often see Lecter appreciate good music in his private world, instrumentals and vocals, as well as remembering the odors of chemical, environmental, culinary substances, and those of his acquaintances, since he recognized the smell of Graham's shaving lotion after years.
The books from the doctor's personal library also exist in his Mental Palace, thus, it can be deduced that Hannibal keeps all the knowledge in his library in the confines of his palace, a fact that is consistent with Lecter's previous statements about prioritizing his comfort and fun. The books are quite diverse and differ between their genres, below is a list of these titles:
Now let’s go over Hannibal’s skills in different feilds

Mads Mikkelsen Interview - Hannibal
Hannibal is man of taste, a man of details, nothing is left to chance, it’s the perfectiveness. Hannibal loves literature, cooking, music, history… everything which is not banal.
