MCU Phase 5 General Discussion Thread

It seems White Vision is a villain in the Emergence episode. Maybe the wires are Mysterio uploading himself into White Vision? Or just White Ultron, which I find unlikely as Ultron should've been defeated in 2015, POD is in 2024

I skipped Ep 3 unfortunately & I couldn’t suspend my disbelief enough to get past Darcey and Howard having a baby together and her giving birth to an Egg… That was just too far for me. They didn’t even ATTEMPT to explain it away as a Magical Birth or some non-traditional human birth.

It’s deadass implied Howard hit & she legit gave birth. 😓

In the great words of Kendrick Lamar: “Freaky ass 🥷’s need to stay they ass inside!”

Yeah… I don’t think any scaling from this is usable, but this is a pretty cool sequence.
Maybe we can have something for Zeus since he seemingly teleports his troops from his lightning so we can assume his main timeline self can do it as well (instant travelling is one of Thunderbolt's features after all)

This season has been <<<mid so far. Agatha Vs Arishem was one of the worst battle ideas I have seen i have seen in animation in a long long time. I don't have a single hope for this season, for a finale it's turning out to be a massive let down.

I finished watching episode 5 of What If...? season 3.

  • Riri Williams, with her prototype armor, knocks out Sharon Carter with a toy oven, and she withstands getting knocked into a wall hard enough to crack it, crashing through a large neon sign, and falling several stories off a rooftop
  • Wong's shields and protection spells can hold off Vision temporarily, and Vision's phasing doesn't seem to be able to bypass it
  • Riri is able to build a Vibranium disruptor within 7.5 minutes (which she believed would require 12 hours), which oneshots Vision
  • Using runes, Wong destroys the resistance base (made of the wreckage of the Titanic)
  • Riri uses Vision's technology to become a human synthezoid with Vision's powers
  • Mysterio used nanites to enhance himself
  • Mysterio's forces were able to kill the other resistance members offscreen, including Wong and Valkyrie
  • Riri, after reclaiming Vision's technology and taking Beck's nanites, creates a massive blast of energy that sends a shockwave through the ruins of Earth in the process of creating a giant hologram of the Avengers logo
  • After interfering, the Watcher is watched by three other Watchers, identified by the credits as the Incarnate, the Executioner, and the Eminence

Yeah, even outside of my own saltiness about Arishem being killed at all (I mean, couldn't have it been another Celestial? Like, I know Arishem is the most well-known and it's impressive because he's their leader and likely their strongest but why?), the "battle" was boring. Some punches and that's it. It should have been far more than this. Come on, you have a cosmic god and a witch who just absorbed another to power herself up and before that she absorbed living androids with cosmic powers and all of it is in animation. Go crazy with it! Like, I don't know, make throw planets, suns or even galaxies at each other, make them create matter out of nowhere, warp gravity, create black holes, summon meteor showers at each other, something, anything! You want to go cosmic, well go cosmic!

I wonder if there's enough material to make a Mysterio variant profile. So far I feel only Cosmic Queen Agatha will get one

I think it’s because a time issue there isn’t enough time to do tall that what if episodes are very short so they are limited on how much they can cram in and since the entire episode is spent on Agatha trying to gain the powers of a celestial they didn’t have enough time to showcase their power after she gained it

Like it could've been a random ass celestial and it'll be cool. The battle was just 0/10. Nothing creative about it all, Arishem just dying like that is beyond hilarious, those punches weren't even causing anything, zero consideration n effort, just the animation style, I rather watch Daredevil n Shang chi get at it than that cosmic mess and I am one who would normally prefer anything cosmic. That was a serious let down of a fan service.

If they had given us 1/3rd of a battle similar to IG Ultron Vs Uatu, no one would complain lol. Time is a factor but they've done FAR FAR better in previous episodes

Ok nice ..is that power nullification or technological manipulation?.

You don't even need that battle to make something good. Just take the battle between the two Strange variants in Season 1 episode 4 and it's already good. It's short but it's inventive and intense. Something on that level would have been enough. Even the final duel in Secret Invasion was more imaginative

This What If didn't need to be in a post Emergence setting, ngl. Could have been just something like "What If Mysterio Won" There is only one line about the Eternals in the episode, too, nothing more.

Okay hater...

I finished watching episode 6 of What If...? season 3.

  • Presumably 1872 Shang-Chi and Kate Bishop are physically comparable to their main universe counterparts, though without any of the magic rings or high-tech arrows, with nothing more advanced than revolvers being used.
  • Shang-Chi easily defeats (an evidently non-Super Soldier) John Walker, and is able to easily fight large groups of foes in unarmed combat
  • Kate Bishop is capable of easily shooting down large numbers of gunmen before they can do much to react
  • Jun-Fan is a fun Iron Fist reference to include here
  • The Watcher interferes in a subtle manner, causing one of Burch's men to stumble off a Stark tech hovertrain
  • Sonny Burch can use Russian hypnotism to put people in a trance, though a ringing bell disrupts the effect, and without it he easily gets oneshot by Kate
  • Xialing defeated the Hood and took his power, including the ability to turn invisible. She trades blows with Shang-Chi and breaks a wooden post in half with a strike
  • The Watcher is in trouble with the Eminence, Executioner, and Incarnate for breaking his oath multiple times
  • Now I'm a little disappointed that we aren't getting episodes about Throg, pirate captain Crossbones, or show tune performer Ultron

Didn’t the baby have blue feathers etc why would it change colors?
Finale is allegedly decades timeskip, probably to look more like Natasha Lyonne too, she's also in F4 as a to be confirmed character, while I personally doubt it's Byrdie, it's not that unlikely

Why would there be a timeskip
Going off of rumors here.

Btw so far everyone else we know involved (Captain Carter, Kahhori) are coming out of nowhere for this finale?
Last year at least Dr Strange and Captain Carter appeared in the penultimate episode (Carter appeared in many others too, but not the point) so they had some sort of preset. And Kahhori obviously had her debut episode.

Nothing here, besides episode 4, but even that isn't much, if you aren't involved with Marvel Studios Spoilers too deeply, you have no idea why she's in the finale.

That's a lot for a teaser, isn't it? Carter mentions the 3 shards of the Nexus of All Realities (also called Observatory Plane here, interesting) that fell out in the end of Episode 6.
Storm seems to show up very early in the episode and her Goddess of Thunder moment is when she's been in there for a while, maybe picks up the Mjolnir of a dead Thor variant IDK. She knows about Infinity Ultron somehow too.

List of foosball table figure cameos, there are some very surprising characters there:
  • Thanos
  • Proxima Midnight
  • Magneto
  • Mystique
  • Wolverine
  • Iron Fist
  • She-Hulk
  • Black Panther
  • Captain America
  • Scarlet Witch
  • Galactus
  • Kang the Conqueror
  • Invisible Woman
  • Loki
  • Iron Man
  • Rogue
  • Baron Zemo
  • Doctor Doom
  • Beta Ray Bill
  • Power Man
  • Infinity Ultron
  • Red Skull
