Luffy tries to fish a great Sea King (Luffy vs Gyarados)

Luffy was hungry on a desert island when he suddenly sees a huge fish in the sea and attacks him without thinking twice.

Current Wano Luffy vs Mega Gyarados. Speed is Unequalized.

  • Luffy starts at Base but he can go to his strongest forms.
  • Battle will take place in Rusukaina.
Monkey D. Luffy: 7 (The Calaca, LSirLancelotDuLacl, HenryWong122, ZackMoon, Blahblah, Kobster, Schnee One)

Gyarados:

Inconclusive:

Why Red Hawk? Fire doesn't do much against Water-Type Pokémon.

Plus, Thor Elephant Gun is really OoC for Luffy and it's dubious that it'd help a lot.

Why speed equalized? Both are Rel+.

Okay, gotta say that Luffy goes for Haoshoku against wild beasts so he'd totally tame the Gyarados if it tries to threat him.

He's also faster by a small margin that can be increased via Gear 4th and even more with Snakeman's attacks, precognition to dodge Gyarados' attacks and being around 3x stronger considering he scales to 3 Gigatons while Gyarados is above baseline.

To answer your earlier question, Gomu Gomu no Red Hawk has Durability Negation. Also, Base Luffy and possibly Gear Third is At least Massively Hypersonic+, while Gear Second is possibly Relativistic+, only in Gear Fourth is he Relativistic+.What is OoC for him to use is Gomu Gomu no Gigant Thor Axe which is highly situational.

I like Luffy more, but I'm gonna be Devil's advocate for this one.

What stops Gyarados's esentially passive fear manipulation via Intimidate that cuts Luffy's physical attacks in half of their normal strength, and his speed via Frighten?

Dura Negation via fire. Still not doing a huge damage to a Water-Type Pokémon.

Still Relativistic+ considering we go by the highest stats unless specified.

Luffy has used Thor Elephant Gun once in the whole manga. Gigant Thor Axe should probably not be considered since it happened in Strong World, and said events are no-canon. But it's the same result. TEG is situational. He might use it, but when he uses Gear 3rd he doesn't go by TEG.

He has much other advantages still. He's not going to get trapped by water and has a large amount of experience dealing with large beasts, on top of having Haki to just tame Gyarados.

@Milly

Luffy's still stronger if he gets his strength cut down via Intimidate and he can compense the speed with precognition and speed boosts.

With his halved attack, he won't be doing much damage, especially since he resists fire. We're not sure to what degree Frighten lowers speed, but if it is lowered then we'll have to see who's faster, or Gyarados will have the advantage in speed.

Gyarados also has Mold Breaker, so I don't believe Haki's going to fully tame him, as it ignores abilities. Thrash is likely Gyarados's first move, which is him essentially just going crazy for an extended period of time, or likely some other physical attack iirc. Surf might be an option? I don't know.

Luffy's arsenal isn't fire-based tho. I never argued Red Hawk would be his finishing blow. In fact, it won't do much no matter what.

Frighten will make Gyarados faster. I mean, the difference is minimal. 0.53c vs 0.57c. Luffy's faster by a bit, but even if Frighten halves the speed Gyarados won't have a great advantage considering Luffy has better mobility and speed amps to compensate the nerf, not to mention Precognition to just move to a side to just lolnope any attack.

I'm not sure Mold Breaker works like that here... Bulbapedia says it ignore the effects that would affect the user's attacks. It'd ignore Luffy's Blunt Force Resistance, not the fact that he can tame him with Haki.

Thrash seems to be a super dodgeable move, tbf. Especially with Precognition. Surf is also a no problem with Pseudo-Flight.

NYOOOM!!!

I noticed that this is Mega Gyarados only. He doesn't have the same natural abilities Gyarados has, only Mold Breaker, meaning that he can't Intimidate and Freighten Luffy at all, leaving the 3x AP difference and speed advantage.

He has stats debuffs, he could catch Luffy with said water, and he can totally hurt him.

Luffy has to use his tools to survive, decisive battles that aren't stomps do exist.

He can Dragon Dance to close the power gap and use water-type moves to flood the whole area hoping to target Luffy.

Problem is that Luffy has the right set of abilities to prevent that. Having advantages over your opponent doesn't make you stomp them. In fact, he wouldn't use his elemental advantage in-character while Gyarados would.

If Gyarados is a mindless berserker that's not a problem for the match but the species itself.

If a character has a flaw then that's his problem. This is the same discussion about OoC hax all over again. If he doesn't use it and gets rekt because of that, that's his fault.

Look at Gilgamesh. He's too arrogant to use his best weapons right off the bat and that's why he tends to get his butt whooped. None of those fights are stomps just because he doesn't use hax at the beginning of the fight.

If we were worried about a character not using their moves because of intelligence or other issues, might as well not make profiles for characters but for templates of powers. We'd just be comparing their powers, not the users.

Luffy takes this FRA, in particular haki and high mobility are gonna be crucial for him, since they'll let him stay safe from the water attacks.
