I swear I'm still not spaming Sans, I just thought this might be interesting.

Speed Equalized, Mirio has knowledge on Sans' abilities, fight happens in a school gymnasium with both standing ten meters apart.

Mirio Togata

Sans

Mirio's in character moveset is to enter underground and instantly take out his opponent by surprise. He is also trained to counter anyone who tries to read him and prepare for his attack.

I think he just insta kills here.

Eh, won't really call it decisive. Mirio has zero resistance to soul hax so Sans definitely has a shot at insta killing him himself.

Except that's not how it goddamn works.

The only reason why we consider that UT characters can one-shot with soul manip is that the strength of their soul manip scales to their AP. So character capable of one-shotting "baseline" characters through sheer AP should be able to do the same with soul manip.

And Sans is at baseline. If his normal attacks can't one-shot "baseline" Undertale characters, his soul manip can't either.

I'm not even sure the former would be true anymore due to the huge downgrades.

Soul destruction would normally one shot someone without resistance

And tbf I said insta kill not one shot..

Except it's not soul destruction. It's soul damage. An attack from a Froggit won't instantly shatter your soul. It will just damage it, taking a few hits before it "dies". Sans does even less damage than a Froggit. At best he can bypass resistance, but that doesn't allow him to one-shot resistance-less people.

@Weekly He was only downgraded in AP, which doesn't matter at all.

Hmmm now that I think about it that would kinda makes more sense.

Well I guess that just makes it worse for Sans.

@Saikou Off the top of my head i know for a fact all of the matches he has against RWBY characters had him oneshotting via soul destruction

@Saikou What characters would be capable of one shotting someone resistanceless given the scaling?

Idk. I'm not involved with the new scaling and I don't want to. Anyone capable of one-shotting something like Sans, a Froggit or determination-less Frisk should be able to though.

Sans was never officially considered able to one-shot with soul manip. So either these matches were wrong from the start or it wasn't the actual reasons for the outcome. Either way, the downgrade didn't do anything.

They were wrong from the start yeah, i just went back through them and the reasoning was identical for all of them; Hold them in place with gravity manip and oneshot with intangible bones and soul destruction

Are you 100% sure about the "oneshot" part? Because it would take seconds of contact with the bones and lasers for them to die, and they can't defend much if held in place. Either way, take it to a VS Thread Removal thread or something.

Does Sans actually hold you in place with the gravity manip? You can still attack him in this state afaik.

Yeah but that's like

Dumb

And besides, Sans doesn't actually hold you down when you attack him. He switches to red when it's your turn, IIRC.

How do the fights even function btw? Is the soul still inside you and all the attacks reach it through your flesh or is it outside your body when in battle? And if its inside are you just floating around with your whole body when evading attacks?

We've been trying to figure out how UT fights work for nearly 4 years now. Don't expect anything ressembling an objective answer.

But it's more likely than not that they just attack you and your soul directly, and it's how Deltarune portrays it on top of that.

Anyway I watched a bit of the Sans fight again. And he doesn't change it to red mode

https://youtu.be/Vr4IYjeplJA

Even very early in the fight he has two attacks back to back where your soul is in blue mode, and your soul remains blue even during the menu selection.

Rip.

Well it's not like UT is consistent about that. Undyne's green mode and Muffet's purple mode both physically stops you from moving, yet you can still attack.
