Meanwhile Kirito would think Caius looks like a Dark Territory knight from long ago and immediately try to discern this possible threat.

But if it were, it'd be tier 2.

Well, Caius can use Absolution, which:

"Removes all status ailments from Caius; buffs Caius with Protect, Shell, Veil, and Vigilance."

Petrification shouldnt be a problem. If Caius is alive he should be able use that. If petrification kills Caius, he resurrects.

Veil protects caius from status effects.

Kirito has the exact same ability, depleting maximum HP, and it counts as Life Manipulation, so same thing should be for Caius too.

Edit: Also Kirito's petrification doesn't kill the enemy. His transmutation also doesn't kill.

Life manip isn't Kirito's go-to anyways, and plus it's apart of his flash freeze that he can choose whether to use or not, which we already discussed Caius breaks out of.
