Okay, Kakuzu feels like he battled well enough to like, brag about it later on, and the one time I wanted to see a flashback of this incident, it didn't happen. So yeah, that's why.
Location: Valley of the End pre-statues.
Round 1: KO/incapacitation
Round 2: Someone gon' die. (My gut says Hashi round 2, but who knows?)
Round 3: MOAR DEATH, but no burning sage in this house nope.
