How do you explain infinite universes?

I always thought of infinite universes as a fiction where a new universe spawns with every new decision made. But now that I think about it, if you try to explain it this way you'll still have a finite amount of universes. You'd have a very large number, but still a finite amount. So what's the rationale behind infinite universes?

basically a place with an amount of universes that number in infinity. It is not infinitely expanding, it is not countless, it is literally infinite.
