God of War: Ragnarok Discussion Thread

honestly i have no idea why his "I know all forms of combat across all of time" didn't warrant a "genius" rating at the very least, seems like it would

Honestly, all the Gods should have had genius ratings regarding their domains, With maybe Athena having Extraordinary genius as her domain is basically Intelligence.

Imagine how confused everybody is when they Poseidon has Genius regarding the ocean:Knows all things regarding his domain, that being the sea.

What do you think lead more to Kratos's depression?

His inability to forget his deeds?

The fact that every time he hoped for something it lead to failure?

I think the latter. He still held hope and some sense of decency for his family, if nothing else. But every time he held hope for things to get better, they got worse, until he went mad and lost all reason.

As for the inability to forget, that did directly contribute but for all his faults, Zeus was right that simply forgetting your past didn't mean that it never happened or you could be absolved of it.

What would be good evidence for Kratos being a genius?
In a panel with the other team members, one of the long time developers Jason McDonald literally used the word genius to describe Kratos for solving the puzzles that he does. Especially considering that Kratos would not have the pulled back camera vantage point that us the players would.

Remember that reality bending puzzle in Hera's garden in GoW3? It switched up perspectives similar to the famous M.C. Escher artwork with all twisted stair cases.

And yet kratos was still able to escape the garden on his own, with no problem. He very casually solved that puzzle, wasnt even pressed after he finished.

Kratos Intellect

Nah, that's not it. It wasn't the raising Kratos documentary and it wasn't a statement by Matt Sophos (who is the lead writer).

It was Jason McDonald, the og Lead Combat Designer who explicitly called Kratos a genius and it was during a panel with other Santa Monica devs onstage too. I believe it was at a convention, possibly Comic Con. I'll try to find it.

Hey, real fast, I saw that GV's match with Kratos was removed from his profile

So I'm wondering like... why so? I know that Kratos's tier has changed but, the match was deemed inconclusive because Gunvolt can Time Travel- so I don't see why this should be removed even if it was a match where H6A variants were used since it was a hax battle more than a stat battle
Even with the tier difference put aside, there have been a lot of changes since then to the general verse abilities. It's moreso that the revision was when I noticed it was still up and decided to finally remove it.

GoW in general had some major revisions plus the fight was balanced since Kratos was a glass cannon at that point, not anymore with the new buffs.
fair enough, guess I'll remove the incon on my side too- im gonna assume the changes defend against time travel

(nooo my incon streak)

Well actually yeah can you just point me in the direction where the new revisions deal with Time Travel just so we can be sure?

That match is so old that Kratos was still a 4-D smurf and didn't have innate CM Type 1 applied to him and the verse. Even with Time Travel, it could go very differently (since survivability was a big part of Gunvolt's argument at the time). So we can't just leave it up at that point.

dw about it, i found it in the Power of the Fates section for resistances thx

huh, in the board Game the Sisters of fate are said to be primordials, i know we are waiting for it to launch before doing anything, but would this give them anything else that they don't right now?

I mean it only makes sense

I had been wondering myself for a while since I know there are several variations of the Fates's Origins in Greek Mythology

Version 1 - Daughters of the Primordial Nyx

Version 2 - Daughters of Zeus and the Titaness Themis

Version 3 - Daughters of the Primordial Ananke

Ananke is never mentioned in GOW so I assume she doesn't exist in this universe taking out version 3, it was stated that The Fates existed even before and during Kronos's time hence the story where he tried to appease them by gifting them with his Time Horses so that takes out Version 2

Version 1 was the only option left but since nothing was ever mentioned I assumed it was either that or they were simply the original Primordials of fates in this universe that were born from Chaos after Ouranos won the Primordial War much like Gaia,

Especially given that it is confirmed ALL Primordials are born of Chaos in GOW and thus Nyx is unable to be their parent

I think the problem with "Version 1 - Daughters of the Primordial Nyx" also due to hax powerscaling problem ? because helios banished nyx every single day while sister of fate controlling all fate of gods and titans ? unless sisters of fate does not really care with nyx.

Also i wonder if Nyx is still alive.

1. I mean uh...I mean just because you birthed someone doesn't mean you will have their abilities tbf

2. She should be...Kratos never went to her realm as far as I remember, though given that Helios is now dead it makes you wonder if she is still trying to merge her realm with the rest of the multiverse...or if Kratos releasing hope stops that

Please note that I am not posting this to taunt anyone here (as I'm sure you're all expecting me to), but merely to make sure supporters are aware of this thread's existence.

I'm gonna wait for Planck and Glassman to drop a bible for this one. Until then, I'd strongly suggest people don't just FRA this to oblivion.

Also NGL, the header and the image was in visibly poor taste.

Anyway, I'd suggest waiting for the supporters to put in their counterarguments before any actual voting happens, they're spread out across multiple time zones (And some of them are busy with IRL work) so it'll be a while before they see the thread and respond (And they will, I can guarantee that), I'd also strongly suggest people refrain from commenting until then to avoid derailing and clutter.
