God of War: Ragnarok Discussion Thread

question about that Egyptian mythology in GOW.

will it happen or no? (Was it just April fools)
Egypt is definitely next with or without that dialogue. Tyr's voice already said this wasn't the last we're seeing of him, weeks before Omega Fantasy uploaded the clips.

The next best candidates after that are Mayan Civ, Chinese Myth and Japanese Myth.

It could be. Kratos tells in Lore and Legends Atreus to live a couple centuries to earn the right to say what a decade here and there feels like.

latest

Look at the top comment that explains why Kratos is at minimum 999 years old.

I think They should do 1 myth for each region don’t you think?

Don't we do that for Kratos' GoW1 age being 30 since that was the real life minimum age of marriage for Spartans or something?
That doesn't use any historical event, it just uses age limits for doing certain stuff.

Also, is the overall GoW cosmology (which no one would fully scale to) 14 universes?

It'd be the 5 Greek universes + the 9 Norse ones.
It's technically 2-B, since every single belief system and mythology is real.
Also, in the scan where Ares is hit by the Blade of Artemis, it actually does pierce his leg (down to the hilt), it's only the pain he ignores.
I wouldn't say something like, a toothpick piercing you would mean that you scale below the toothpick.

Heck, the toothpick is an exaggeration somce at least you'd feel that shit. Ares straight mocks him for it.
That doesn't seem like durability to me, though Ares should obviously still scale above the BoC since he made them.

Hmmmmmmm... how many universes do you reckon each of those myths carry?
That honestly depends on how SSM interprets it. I for sure know that OG Norse myth wasn't Tier 2 lmfao.

Vedic myth is anywhere from 2-B on its own to like 1-B. Egyptian mythology might be 2 universes (Mortal and Underworld) or like 13, assuming they take every hour of the Night as its own realm and such (or wank the Sea of Chaos). Japanese/Shinto mythology has Yomi, the Mortal World and Takamaghara but again, depends on whether they flesh them out as space-times etc.

Vedic Hindu Cosmology

If they ever look at Bible Mythology, I just want 2 things:

1. Angels looking like their biblical selves.

2. Respect towards the Jewish Old Testament

Let's see...

1. Violence (Pretty ironic this)

2. Using the word "God" in the name

3. Sex scenes (Yeah let's not even delve into that part)

4. Greek Myth characters which are considered blasphemy to you-know-who and punishment is potentially the death sentence
If they think they can put the death sentence to an entire studio, then well good luck to them.

Entire middle East and almost all of South Asia will stop buying Sony's cameras and TVs.
That's not counting political ramifications the local branches will face in each of those countries.

Even West will not protect Sony from half the world population's wrath. Even Japan, the home country of Sony will swing hammer on Sony.

That's unadulterated economic and political Suicide.

If the studio were in that Middle Eastern country, they absolutely could.

Thankfully, SSM is in America, the worst they can do is ban the game. Unless of course, you find weird shit on the King of Saudi Arabia, in which case, you end up being chopped up and dumped into acid.

Y'all are underestimating just how big Sony is.

Their assets alone rival that of Microsoft, who I'd argue would suffer even less from a continental blackout given they can screw you and your PC over at the flick of a switch and decimate entire continents worth of computers.

Sony has the largest music companies and the largest electronics division in the world. If anything, they have an even bigger incentive on having those countries sanctioned to hell and back.

Its video game side is just a smidge of just how big they really are. Plus, such boycotts almost never work and fail hilariously. Just look at the France boycotts from that side of the world which did ****-all in the long run. It literally contributed to nothing and instead made the entire region of a world a laughingstock.

At what cost?

Is it actually worth gaslighting half the world's population for a few billion dollar worth of a game?

What makes more business sense?
Most paramount rule in economics, never upset your customers. While some example exist of entities defying that rule, Sony nor Microsoft are suicidal enough to lose countless trillions against a few billions.

Never underestimate religion, oil power and money.

That's not even counting the international geopolitical ramifications.

That's practically cyber warfare on global scale. Countries will protect their strategic interests. Microsoft does something dumb like that, they will find themselves blown off the face of the earth.

Sooner or later they'll give in eventually. Majority of that population are slacking out into more open-ended views.

Hogwarts Legacy defied that in the face of countless protests. Cancel culture just doesn't do much anymore. It's lost it's meaning.

Good games will sell more and trump any controversy that follows. Hell, GTA causes controversies across the entire world on a regular basis. Yet it's gone above and beyond to become one of the biggest video game franchises in history, selling hundreds of millions of copies. Why? Because it knows how to cash on all that attention.

Never underestimate religion, oil power and money.
With the world gunning straight for renewables, that oil money might not mean much in the near future. Hell, even that region is investing big time in video games to save their asses from the inevitable exhaustion of their resources. Times are changing.

MS literally has all your personal info to a T. They won the war before it even began. They have your servers and word-processing software by the balls. The world would have a lot more to lose than MS.

All in all, banning video games over such petty and hypocritical reasons is so silly to the point that you'd be fighting a losing war until your own population eventually gets notice of your more... less-than-amicable activities and pressure you into change. Or climate change and resource exhaustion does it for you.

Btw, it's funny how Heimdall implied that Baldur's dragon was apparently strong enough to be capable of burning/killing him.

@Planck69 @KLOL506

These are all the Greek vs Norse battles for GoW that I can think of:

  • Bloodlusted Norse Kratos vs Zeus
  • Jormungandr vs Hercules
  • Heimdall vs Herc
  • Thor vs Herc
  • Baldur vs Herc
  • Sigrun vs Herc
  • Hades vs Garm

Which of these stay, and which can go?

Also, I know Zeus beat Odin with hax in a vs thread, but it should be on their profiles since it isn't really a stomp anymore.

I think that most of the battles with Hercules should be redone since the scaling has changed and the Norse Gods are more comparable to the top tier Greek Gods now. But the others are fine.
