General Godzilla Discussion

According Greg Keyes Godzilla is not the name of the species but rather just the name of the Godzilla from the MV.

While other Gs like Dagon who is member of the same species are simply called Godzilla-like creatures.
Titanus Gojira is the name of the species according to KotM. A Godzilla-like creature is simply a creature that resembles a Titanus Gojira but it is not.

Titanus Gojira is Godzilla.

According Greg Keyes the other members of Godzilla species are called Godzilla-like creatures.
Titanus Gojira is the Godzilla species. Again, Godzilla-like creatures are just creatures resembling the Titanus Gojira, even if he really stated that it doesn't make sense. Damn, not even Dagon is referred as a "Godzilla-like creature".

That still doesn't changes too much. You just need to get further on the context, in this context, "A creature like Godzilla" is indeed referred to his species as a whole, it is the same thing when I say a "animal like a shark". However, a "Godzilla-like creature" does not necessarily means that is 100% a Godzilla species. There was a Godzilla-like creature skull in Kong temple, not a Godzilla species member skull.

The novel confirmed is a Godzilla species member skull though

I guess I have to correct you there.

Iirc, the novel states exactly "Godzilla-like creature", not a actual Godzilla species. And Greg just confirms that Godzilla-like creature is an creature similar to Godzilla, not the same member of the species lol

Hmm Dagon was called Godzilla-like creature which means other Gs are catalogued Godzilla-like creatures too. :v

Which means the skull possibly belongs to another Godzilla.

From Page 250, here ya go

Godzilla-like creatures?
Eh not as cool as them being called Titanus Gojira
It does seem like the Titanus thing is less a genus And more of a code name for certain individuals (I’m fond of Titanocetus Gojira myself)
Alright I decided to give the novel a read and it does state that the skull was part of a Godzilla like species and it directly compares it to Dagon's skeleton which Monarch found in the Philippines
it’s interesting because that would imply two things
  • Gojiras have significantly more variation then we thought
  • Goji isn’t even the ******* biggest one (look at how big that skull was compared to Kong)
Yeah it's kind of weird to say a Godzilla like creature when Dagon is practically another Godzilla but older
Dagon has a way cooler name tho and was presumably built different

He was called a "creature like Godzilla" that in context is clearly reffering to the species unlike "Godzilla-like creature" that just is used to creatures that show a resemble to the Titanus Gojira.

Also call it headcanon or whatever, but what if it's possible that the reason why Godzilla's ancestors were bigger was because unlike Godzilla they had a more steady access to radiation before the Permian Extinction event and so could grow much bigger?

Also call this unneascary but I wanted to follow up on that scan of the Zo-Zlo-halawa. In page 66, after telling Ilene the story of the creature and how it fought Kong's ancestors in the hollow earth, Jia asks her what non Iwi folk call the creature and Ilene confirms it is another name for Godzilla.
So whatever this was the big G or another member of the species is up to personal interpretation, but this does confirm that Godzilla and Kong's species had multiple skirmishes with one another seperate from their war

@Hellbeast I wouldn't be surprised if Godzilla's species evolved or changed over a period of time or as you said there's variations of one species under a hierarchy
It’s possible the one we see was somehow abnormal (he definitely seems it in size going by the skull)

Was he hurting people and they didn’t know why?

I could see this referencing the G man since we know he had some personal stake in the War but I could see this being Dagon or even another Goji (Minilla?) we haven’t seen before

Just makes me want a MonsterVerse: BC comic or animated show so badly (imagine seeing other Gojis or even Ghidorah’s first invasion)

IDK how true this is or not, but Godzilla: Dominion writer Greg Keyes did confirm that an inexperienced and adolescent Godzilla had been driven out of his home by a Kong a long time ago but take this with a grain of salt as this was less from his mouth and more so confirming a take on the matter

Also my god that Singular Point Godzilla music, I'm gonna be honest I haven't been this intimidated by a Godzilla since the OG 1954 film but now it paints Godzilla as being a literal god of destruction

And according to the leak which is pretty much legit, his final form whose roar we hear at the end of the vid... Will make shin look tame

That'd be something to see since Shin Godzilla was pretty damn creepy in design, being like a zombie with no sense of emotion or sympathy, so if SP Godzilla's final form is more scary then this will herald the end of the universe
