Everybody Wants to Rule the World 5: Kill of the Night

"Given how the attacks are worldwide, this is unlikely to be the only beast. We should likely contain it and attempt to examine it. Perhaps that might give us insight as to why it came through that device."

"Mh ... my first thought is that they go out to hunt, but what worries me most ... and if perhaps they are commanded by someone"

I go over to the lady with the "phone"

"Would you happen to know what these beasts are, where they originate from, or how they are normally dealt with?"

"Ah, right! I was looking that up!" I got back to my search on where the monsters come from. While the results are loading [and by that I mean, why , I open another tab and search "history of night attacks".

"It'll take a bit of time, but I'll see what I can find out about them. There's also a chance more could come out." I put the phone down a bit away as the search results load.

"What we know so far is: these things travel through data… somehow. They also seem to have some limit of distance, or maybe it takes more time to travel on larger networks, since it only traveled across part of the city from you guys. They only attack at night, and don't go after people inside, since otherwise they wouldn't be telling people to stay inside at night. It can change size and somewhat change shape." Then I look at its mouth, "and it doesn't seem to eat what it kills. Anything else?"

"Thanks!" I say, taking the salt and putting it on the chips which were a little bland.

I wave enthusiastically to the shady looking person, then take a many bites of the cheese and bacon bun until there is no more cheesy and bacon bun.

Mmmm I wonder when the parfait will get here...

Jessebelle couldn't help but watch the fibrosis absolutely devour her food, taking small little nibbles of her own food as she stared. She ate like her dad...and that wasn't necessarily a compliment. "Uh...so you want to sing when we're done eating, right? Because I'm up for whenever."

"Oh, I mean, uh..." she glanced around the diner, which was now starting to get a bit crowded, before taking a deep breath. She closed her eyes and nodded. She opened them once more and they were literally glowing. "Let's do this."

"oooprettyeyes"

I finish my mouthful, wipe my face with a napkin, and make my own eyes glow too.

"Letsdothis. Woo Wooo!"

The girl grinned ever so slightly and stood up from the table before walking on stage. She approached the little karaoke machine and placed a hand on it. She looked at Carol. "You got a specific song you want?"

"Alright. Sounds good to me. Just gotta change a couple things." With her hand still on the device, Jessebelle moved her fingers in her other hand to hit little spaces on her palm, which would light up multiple different colors. After she was done, a new song was being downloaded into the machine. "Hmm, didn't know I could do that."

She grabbed two nearby microphones and tossed one to Carol, eyes glowing even brighter. "Showtime, I guess."

The title of the song appeared on screen. Drop Pop Candy

I telekinetically guide the microphone into my hand and start singing with the lyrics on the screen. I take the male lines of the duet.

I match the rhythm and tempo flawlessly. Unlike my normal speech, music is the place that I find I can naturally get the right speed.

I'm not perfect of course. Some of my notes are half a note higher or lower than they should be. Only a few here and there, not too noticeable. But the rhythm and speed, those I can match instinctively.

At some point, I unconsciously activate Spotlight to get just the right lighting on us both. When I realise what I'm doing, I start sending off beams of multi-coloured light around the room.

When I see what Jessabelle is doing, my eyes go wide and I almost miss my next line, but manage to make it. I alter the lights to accentuate her, and to seem to shine out of the stars, focusing the lights on the cat, making the spotlights move up her body to show off the new blue clothes.

Jessebelle, meanwhile, seemed to shave off her uncomfortable and hesitant attitude and was completely owning it on the mic. She was dancing around to the entire song while still rocking it on the female vocals. Strange things would happen around her during the entire song, as well.

Stars would appear around her during silent points of the song, only to disperse as soon as they arrived. Singing "dye it blue" made her clothes turn completely blue, singing about a cat caused a cat to appear on her shoulder. She'd hold her arm out, and the car would run down her arm and leap off only to seemingly vanish into stardust.

everything about the performance was great, including the tempo and tune and even the visuals that Jessebelle had seemingly provided. Once it was over, people in the diner clapped, and Jessebelle blinked. Her eyes stopped glowing. "That...that was...woah..."

I put down the microphone and turn to Jessabelle.

"OhmygoshthatwasgreatIknewyoucoulddoitandohmygoshallthosestarsandyourclothesandwheredidthatcatcomefromyou'reamazingIneedyoutojoinmybandpleasepleasepleaseplease"

Jessebelle blinked and watched as Carol just went on an on. She let her just rant for a moment as she thought about what it was that she did. She smiled a little. "That...that was really fun. How could I turn down doing something like that again?"

She put a hand on her hip and nodded. Her eyes flashed for a moment. "You got it."

"Yaaaaaaaaayyy!!!!!!"

I cheer and grab Jessabelle's hand then lift it into the air.

"We'restartingabandeveryone!!!!"

The clapping grows more intense.

Jessebelle chuckled a little and tried her best to bring her hand down. Okay now all this attention was starting to get to her in a bad way. "Okay, no need to tell everyone let's just uh...calm down, yeah?" She chuckled awkwardly. She could...sort of get used to this though...

"Oksorryjustreallyexcitedletsgositdownmyparfaitstillhasn'tarrivedafterallheydoyoureckonpeoplewillaskusforautographs?

"Autographs? Uh...I don't know about that. Someone may have recorded us though." She muttered that last part under her breath as she rubbed the back of her head. "I don't know what that means for us but uh let's please sit down before anything else weird happens..."

She was already trying to usher the girl to the table.

"So, do you even know what...a band really does?" She took a seat as she asked this, staring at carol intently. "I've never been in a band before. What do you...really do? Like...is there something that you have to do first or do you just call places and ask to perform?"

"Just call places and ask to perform until a handsome producer appears and tells us we're going to be the next stars and then he sets us up with gigs and we travel the world and bring our sick-as tunes to all!"

"Uh...I don't think it's going to be that easy," she muttered as she took a drink of her water. She paused for a moment and then placed her glass down. "But I do like your confidence," she smiled at the girl and looked around the diner. "Maybe we...go buy some instruments later? Though...we may actually have to get a job first...that's lame.@

"I'm sure our good friend Magnus here will be happy to lend the money to buy instruments. I play guitar, what about you? I bet I could also do the drums with my telekinesis - oh I didn't mention I have telekinesis - ohlookmyparfait!"

A gigantic parfait full of strawberries and other delcious sweetness is being carefully carried our way by a waiter. I use a bit of Telekinesis to bring it the rest of the way, then wave at him.

"Thanks!"

I interlock my fingers ands stretch my hands.

"Here. I. Go!"
