Basically, The Beast and David should get Empowerment via belief. A major theme throughout the Eastrail 177 Trilogy is that as long as you truly believe that you can do something, you can do it. This is part of what grants David and Kevin their abilities, as they believe that they are superhuman.
A good example of this would be the weight lifting scene from Unbreakable. David notes that he's going far above his normal limits, but keeps managing to lift more and more weight. Sure, he struggles, but he still manages to lift it. And he continues to add more weight, which he manages to lift it with struggle, even though he literally struggled to lift a lot less weight before.
Another example would be the ending to Split, where Kevin realizes that it is his belief in the superhuman Beast that grants him his super powers, and hence why most of his personalities choose to believe in him as the strongest. This is further supported in the shotgun scene where the Beast states his belief that while Kevin is an ordinary man, the Beast is so much more, and proceeds to prove this via tanking 2 shotgun blasts and bending metal bars.
Finally, this is all confirmed in Glass through Elijah's speech to the Horde. Patricia (one of the personalities within the Horde) begins to doubt whether or not the Beast is actually superhuman or if everything he did was a fluke. Elijah reinforces the Hordes faith by giving them a speech similar to the one he gave David in Unbreakable, about how the impossible can happen through belief. Keep in mind that Mr. Glass is like the smartest character in the series, having been the mastermind behind many of the events in the series and usually being one step ahead of everyone.
What's more, the main reason why Dr. Ellie Staple tries so hard to make the 3 protagonists believe that they aren't superhuman is because it is that belief that empowers them. If they believe that they are normal people, then that's what they'll be. That's why Elijah tries so hard to make David and Kevin believe that they have powers.
However, the power of belief can work against them as well. As aforementioned, if they ever begin to doubt their strength, then they will weaken as a result. As we saw with David, his fear of/belief that he is weak to water leaves him powerless, either from his childhood trauma or something else that makes him believe that this is true. However, as we saw in the water tank fight he can potentially overcome this with effort.
