Generally, Lowballed values for calcs are accrpted as opposed to high ends, but why are the "Means" never used?

If you have a low-end and a high-end value, it's more accurate and safe to add them then divide by two for "Middle-end", no? As opposed to simply lowballing everything.

Can the middle ground not be taken?

Depends on the context. If a calculation yields 4-B for the low-end, and 4-A for the high-end, the "middle ground" would still be 4-A due to the sheer difference between these values.

It also depends on context. If the context behind the feat would suggest the low-end, we'd use it and vice versa.
