Kubo’s Change of Mimihagi’s Fate in the Anime Reveals a Hidden Layer of the Story

Anyone else notice that Kubo made a subtle but significant change to Mimihagi’s fate in the Bleach anime? The flashback featuring new content wasn’t just filler or added for show—it’s actually a crucial shift in the lore, offering us deeper insight into Mimihagi’s role and the story’s true nature.

In the anime, we see that Yhwach doesn’t absorb Mimihagi as he does in the manga. Instead, he destroys it. But does he really destroy it? This moment feels off when you consider the past revelations in Bleach. Here’s my theory: Mimihagi wasn’t fully destroyed but actually still exists in the Primordial World.

If we go back to Ukitake’s childhood, when the Soul King was split, we learn that Mimihagi could have taken refuge in the Primordial World—a realm that seems connected to the 3 worlds but yet big enough to contain more if created one day. It’s possible that Mimihagi, being a god-like entity, that worshipped in the Soul Society long before it was connected to Ukitake. Could explain why the hand, or a manifestation of it, resides within Ukitake. However, this version of Mimihagi may not be the true hand, like Pernida’s true form that was the real embodiment of the Soul King’s left arm.

Consider Pernida’s own existence: it wasn’t merely a limb; it was a separate consciousness born from the Soul King’s essence. This is where Mimihagi’s potential connection to Ukitake gets more interesting. Mimihagi’s hand might actually be a copy, a reishi-made manifestation, rather than the original. If the real Mimihagi exists in the Primordial World, it could still be holding with its power of stillness the darkness that the anime alluded to oppose the Soul King.

In essence, I believe the anime altered Mimihagi’s fate to keep the mystery alive, suggesting that the true Mimihagi still resides in the Primordial World, untouched by Yhwach’s destruction. The hand that Ukitake possesses could be just one version of a far more complex entity.

Me and Arc were discussing this scan and we came to the conclusion it is most likely talking about the Soul King, basically describing all the main qualities of the character in short. Which is crazy to think about since this was all stated during Chapter 240, which is several hundred chapters before we got any more specific descriptions of the Soul King and his predicament.

Kubo had all of this stuff planned out during the Arrancar Arc; let that sink in.

"In my right hand, the stone that connects the worlds" - This can be interpreted in two different ways. One can be a more literal interpretation, in that the "stone" here is the Hogyoku and the "worlds" being connected here are the racial boundaries being melded together during the process of Hybridization, actualized by the Hogyoku. Or a more metaphorical interpretation, in that the "stone" here is the Soul King, who acts as the "keystone" of the realms, and uses his Right Arm, the Mimihagi, to connect and hold the realms together.

"In my left hand, the sword that binds existence" - This is most likely about Soul King using the Ceremonial Sword to create the worlds and bind them together, which is shown in a flashback during the anime.

"The black-haired shepherd" - This can be interpreted as both a representation of Soul King's physical appearance, alongside his occupation; acting as the lynchpin of the realms, and more specifically, the Cycle of Reincarnation that allows souls to transmigrate between life and death. And also, a play-on-words on the term "Black Sheep", which is someone who is excluded from society or grouping of people, which Soul King technically was as his existence was functionally Omnipotent in comparison to anyone else. He was completely distinct from anyone during that time.

"The chair of the noose" - This is supposed to describe Soul King's current predicament, specifically how he's simultaneously supported by the Crystal, allowing for his continued existence, but also acts as his eternal prison, representing the noose constricting his ability to live freely.

"I strike the Ibis when the clouds gather" - This requires a further explanation than normal because it deals with real life mythological symbolism; Ibis in Egyptian mythology represents Divine Enlightenment and the direct transfer of one's soul into the afterlife, which, when contextualize to Bleach, it could represent the balance of souls created by the Soul King (with the word "strike" here not meaning a forceful, violent action, but rather a deliberate action), which makes sense since Ibis, during ceremonies, are mummified to allow the direct transferal of one's soul into the spiritual world, which is what the Cycle of Reincarnation is, fundamentally. While the "when the clouds gather" is an additional description in the creation of this balance; the Soul King resides in the Reiokyu, which acts as the "Heavenly Realm" that resides above the clouds, and is the birth-place of this Cycle as it houses its creator and balancer.

Yeah, and it's sad that majority of people fails to really grasp how much of a beautiful story Bleach and Ichigo's journey is. I have seen lots of times people diminishing Bleach because of "bad writing" or "deus ex machinas", mainly in the Latinoamerican community and the Italian community. In this case, the main problem is that some influencers that have hundreds of thousands of followers started to talk ill of Bleach and from then everyone initiated to say the same things.

Okay, half of my prediction came true. Now I need Grimmjow to get up and help against Askin alongside Ichigo. Only for both of them to get defeated in the end and keep the manga continuation in line. Is ridiculous that Askin is in base form and not Vollständig.
 
Will the shunsui fight start in the next episode? There is this and the conclusion of mayuri in addition to new scenes of ichigo. Wouldn't it be rushed?

Renji can fight Uryu, Gerard > Renji, Zaraki, Toshiro, and Byakuya can hurt Gerard

Pernida fights Zaraki, Nemu, and Mayuri

Askin fights Ichigo, holding-back Shikai Ichigo can fight Uryu, but maybe he only gets there with hax. Yoruichi also has some massive downscaling off taking a casual attack from Yhwach iirc. Urahara and GRIMMJOW fought him, too.

Jugram fights Uryu and Bazz-B.

Lille... he's a bit odd, idk about him.


We might actually get all elite Quincy, and multiple others, to Squad Zero level if things go as planned. Idk who gets what scaling tho, so please do not crucify me.
