In the story bit regarding Isshin and Masaki's encounter we learn that wounds Quincy receive from Hollows can be healed but what is the actual process? Is the matter (kishi) directly being treated? Is the soul (konpaku) treated after being pulled from the matter? Or perhaps the soul is being treated directly from above the matter?
Since Shinigami are not made of matter (kishi) in the first place they only have a method of treating the soul (konpaku), and since Quincies are living human beings I think it was necessary to establish a treatment method that directly affects the soul through the matter.
